This Week in Your Bronze Age Collection!!
Sauce Dog replied to TupennyConan's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I will ALWAYS like and support any Arsenal issue. Love that character, so much so I have a set just for him https://comics.www.collectors-society.com/WCM/ComicCustomSetView.aspx?s=29180 as for my weekly Bronze pick up I found this pretty nice copy of ToD #1. Might get it graded one day if the prices keep creeping up. -
Who knows at this point. The other two issues also sold: 9.4 for $11,872 (though this one was in an original red modern label, so upgrade potential when regraded is a possibility), and then a 9.0 sold for $7,100 (which is what makes the restored 6.0 seem so expensive...that was just under half of an unrestored 9 price!).
-
Alright, who bought that Albedo CGC restored 6.0 on click tonight for $3,000? That comic was supposed to be mine for the sensible price of $2100, but nOooOoOoOO somebody just had to whip out their big boy wallet.

It would be EASIER for you to find and buy a second print, and I honestly like them just the same. There are very few low grade first prints that ever hit the market and I guarantee you those that do again will go for more as everybody and their pet will jump on to bid or make offers.

One has to remember is this is the first time the marketing for a movie has shifted to suite the pandemic. Previously all trailers (multiple versions) would be released at least a year in advance in order to play in front of movies at theatres. Since nobody is going to theatres now there is zero reason to invest money in marketing a trailer so far in advance when people will forget about it (and they would just have to release a trailer closer to the opening date anyways to hype people up again. So lots of cost editing and coordinating the submissions for many trailers). This release schedule was was much better, leave it until months before the release, getting people frothing with anticipation (many thinking it would be bad as they couldn't understand WHY a trailer for a movie would be held back). Now we have this trailer fresh in mind just a month before release, which also allows the footage from it to enter the meme cycle and propagate (also with enough time without risking it all being forgotten by the time the movie is released).

Play the trailer at x2 speed on youtube and watch the last bit of the trailer - the soundtrack corrects itself back to the tempo of the original theme (they know they cannot deny fans that song)

Haha, amazing that it has Quan Chi right there front and centre in the lineup - even after all his scenes were cut from the movie

anybody know who makes the best repro covers?
Sauce Dog replied to nofortune's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
User Rhinecrosser sells them on Ebay, and I've had him print some for me as a test (I used both his own file and files I've supplied to him to ensure better quality print. I make my own reproduction covers to actually mimic golden age cover accurately, but like to see what every one else is selling on the market). They are standard laser prints and the paper weights will not be accurate, but for display purposes they will be fine at a distance (close examination will make any artifacts from the source images become obvious). Just don't expect 1:1 quality to the originals and you'll be happy, and his stuff is decent if you have no access/ability to make them yourself. -
So, with so many people online complaining that Johnny Cage isn't in this movie (which I'm fine with - plenty of characters are not in this movie) I would like to submit what I feel SHOULD be how the character gets introduced in this movie (either at the end of the movie or start of the sequel) Johnny Cage for the movie should be based on Frank Dux AS WE KNOW HIM TODAY. Dux was the martial artists who claimed to have won the secret underground kumite, which was made into the movie Bloodsport. In that amazing movie Frank was played by Jean-Claude Van Damme - a role that served as the inspiration for Johnny Cage. Dux's legend grew over the years, but more and more it became obvious he was a lying fraudster. At this point every last one of his claims has been discredited, and that is the perspective they should take with Johnny Cage in the films. Have Cage be an actor/fighter who finds out about the MK tournament (or at least hears about the general idea and figured a secret tournament sounds like a cool idea - maybe he just thinks it was some ideas from a -script floating around), and he starts telling everyone that HE WON THE MK TOURNAMENT. He uses that story to get more fame, movies and publicity and even start his own franchise of dojos (like Frank Dux did lying about his history and events of Bloodsport) . Full on Frank Dux...however in this case after years of telling this story for his own gain he gets roped into the next very REAL tournament, and only then he realizes that it was a real thing that he cannot escape due to his lies (none of the original combatants came forward to disprove Cage, as it would just sound crazy and he was just a washed up actor anyways).

New poster was also revealed...so that's like what, 2000% more posters than most other movies ever get

So my favourite early DC character is Hourman, and unfortunately the majority of his stories have never been reprinted in any form (the JSA archives only cover small set of stories early on, from #48-52). I prefer to buy TPBs for repeated reading (and before that I buy digital copies to read first to see what I like) and only ever buy single issues for display on my collection. So what is my solution if DC has never, ever printed anything for Hourman? Easy, I make and print my own trade paperback. BOOM! Flip through preview can be seen here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CLckU86BIUz I assembled my favourite seven stories, and one of which technically was never printed in this way (it was a series of panels from another DC graphic novel - so I cut and assembled all those sequences that featured him and stitched them together so it was a complete Housman-Only story). The story to inspire me to do this was from Adventure Comics #65, which I love (robots! invisibility! dog fight! throwing acid on everyone!) but was never reprinted anywhere - ever - so if I wanted to read that I would have to constantly handle the original comic or read online (meh) Not for resale (obviously) and only two copies were printed/bound (always do an extra in case the bleed trimming goes wrong or there is an assembly issues).

Everything director Simon McQuoid said in the above interview/video hits exactly right for me and gives me a good feeling about how he handled this movie. The only thing outstanding we really need to find out is the soundtrack, and that is a big factor to the impact of the original movie. They could keep that theme going, as there are LOTS of modern artists who've been making music inspired by that movie (Heck, Skrillex loves MK so much I would be very happy hearing a snippet of his song "Reptile" in this movie during a fight and it would fit perfectly)
-
So good. Now I sit back and wait for the inevitable re-edit of the trailer to be posted - in which someone puts the original movies soundtrack overtop of this footage (as it was meant to be experienced - we need more screaming MORTAL KOMBAT)
-
Spoiler: The trailer looks amazingly proper violent (won't post the leaked version here, I highly recommend waiting for the official release as the leak has terrible audio due to the Russian dubbing)

Hasn't Mephisto been crossing over from other multiverses in comics for the past year? It was what basically kicked off the Age of Khonshu as only Moon Knight was aware that an infinite amount of Mephitos would be crossing into their universe (even after he had killed the main universes Mephisto)

are sales slowing down on the boards?
Sauce Dog replied to atomised's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
No worries. It can get very overwhelming at first, in fact I just recommend popping into one of their claim events just to watch and get used to it (that's what I did the first time. Didn't buy anything until the next event...and then my wallet was destroyed) -

While most shops put them on themselves, you won't know of those unless you follow the account already (my LCS does them for example) so the easiest way to do it is to just follow the @elite_comics11 account, since they are the biggest on IG and can facilitate many of these from across the world. They will advertise them on their feed well in advance, several times over and once it starts its just a click to join the live feed (and chat room, where you can ask questions / requests and make offers as things come up). -

IG is great for simply finding sellers who seem to be listing the stuff you are into - and THEN reaching out to them asking if they have certain issues (keeping the contacts for sales/trades). I don't bother waiting for sales posts as they come up, as those are easy to miss unless you are tracking specific accounts constantly. However for buying on the spot and fun, IG live claim-fests are THE best thing out there and beats pretty much anything you can find on these or other boards. Just sit back, and watch some comic shop you would otherwise never be able to visit bring out stacks of goodies for sale. Everything negotiable and found them to be a great way to spend a night on comics. -
Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE on HBO Max (3/18/21)
Sauce Dog replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
While I'm not terribly excited for it still (other than a cultural curiosity at this point), this shot above is exactly the type of 'connective tissue' the movie needed and I'm happy to see included - shows that it does focus on laying much more of a foundation that the audience can follow for future movies. That Joker scene though...ugh (Really think it would have benefited from Joker calling him & emphasizing 'Bruce'. As since its a nightmare then I can think of nothing else that might shake Batman up in the present than that detail in the future. Almost like "oh , things really must have hit the fan if he's around and thinks we are on a first name basis!")- 2,340 replies

I am disappointed all your conspiracy theories are still on the Mephisto train...I'm just gonna stay over here and hope for Mojo running it all like a proper TV show (one of the few who can see the value of a CROSSOVER with the x-franchise)
