Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
Sauce Dog replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
This is a damn crazy price for this book, even if it does have one of the coolest MK covers ever (hell, ANY of the issues from this mini-series have never seen a price like this - even 9.8s of #1). The Moon Knight fever is starting to spread to non-key books and his other series it seems (this is my favourite of his series, due to my own personal nostalgia, so I'm happy to see this kinda of price/interest regardless). These are not hard issues to find if you want them in 9.8 (I should know, I found great seller contacts while building my top registry set for it this year, and all the issues can be bought and graded for about $50 each) so do NOT go into these odd Ebay bidding wars for these issues -
Please grade this Baffling Mysteries #8!
Sauce Dog replied to Point Five's topic in Hey buddy, can you spare a grade?
I'm in the same boat as above, 4.0 all day! -
They really did do an excellent job with melding together many of Kings worlds and lore, especially doing so in a way that didn't feel like they were beating you over the head with references (a point of fault that can be found in pretty much every other movie/series right now). This is a series that does warrant a rewatching to fully appreciate how well crafted it was.

All good! I know most news articles nowadays will just outright name the character, but I do hope some people get a surprise from the reveal - real shame there isn't going to be more
-
Might want to adjust that due to heavy spoiler (as that revelation is a big surprise to most watching it and might not see it coming)

This Week in your Collection - Moderns ONLY
Sauce Dog replied to showcase4's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Might as well shut this thread down now, as this issue can't be topped. Just burn all your other key books in shame. I went HOLOFOIL crazy last week for some reason and decided "yes, I have a limited amount of space and can't buy many more graded comics right now...this is clearly a good and sound idea". Also bought Iron Man #290, as the Telepresence Armor era was one of my favourite modern arcs for Stark. This marks my final non-goldenage comic purchase of the year. -
I hope it gets a Peach Momoko variant cover

Reattaching centerfolds, specifically.
Sauce Dog replied to xiombarg's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Be VERY conservative though when applying it, as if CGC thinks the size/amount of tape is too much you will get it marked as restored. -
SWAMP THING via DC Digital TV from James Wan (5/31/19)

#ReleaseTheSwampyCut oh wait...yeah close enough -
What was your LAST GA purchase in this lousy year?
Sauce Dog replied to Robot Man's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Is Voteman's kryptonite the not-so-rare element called "gerrymanderium"? I believe it causes him to split into Red & Blue versions of himself like Superman later did in the 90s -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
Sauce Dog replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
I'm pretty much of the mind it is your first point, the perception that many have of being priced out of mid/high grades causes a frenzy of bidding for low grades...often to the point that they get to prices that would be better spent just investing another $100 for a copy several grade points higher. This is also happening with TMNT #1, as any low grade 1st or 2nd print gets more activity than others. I'm happy about this as I've been collecting whatever condition copy comes my way for HOS92, but is also sad because it means my collecting more budget copies is at an end -
Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...
Sauce Dog replied to PeterPark's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
While it is already a mega-key, House of Secrets #92 is really seeing some crazy growth on the absolute bottom low-grade end. I love picking up whatever copies I can, so often track any copies that his Ebay and have been seeing the worst of the worst copies hit new record prices. For example a beat up CGC 0.5 incomplete sold today for $504us (with 48 bids), which is up considerably from the last 0.5 incomplete which sold in August this year for $245. A 1.5 sold last month for $515, 1.8 for $600. But oddly enough the grades above these are either the same price or lower, the costs for getting a copy between 2.5 and 4.0 are banding from $400 to $600 as well (which means either these will be pushed up in future copies or all these low end books will come down. There is a brand new Swamp Thing series launching early next year, so perhaps these are the other core fans who have always wanted a first appearance) -
What is the true 1st villain team-up?
Sauce Dog replied to Sauce Dog's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Wotan and Karkull still precede that by several years, and both were Fates big foes at the time (and who actually did more than just rob banks or other local Gotham crimes, regardless of popularity, these two were most certainly super villains) -
One GA Sci Fi and one Horror!
Sauce Dog replied to atomic1950s's topic in Golden/Silver/Bronze Age Only
The CGC boards are going through a big issue with image paths right now (as a result of something going wrong during their last major maintenance / updates done a few days ago). If you are interested in these, or any other sales post, just DM the seller directly and ask for them. -
What is the true 1st villain team-up?
Sauce Dog replied to Sauce Dog's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Figured I might as well post the epic team-up from More Fun Comics #70. I loved reading this, as it felt like a very natural progression of Dr.Fates villains to meet in such a way and share knowledge (with Wotan teaching mystic arts to Karkull in order for him to be able to break Wotan out of the prison he was placed in by Fate) -
I get irrationally angry/upset now seeing that cover. I sold my super low grade copy (coverless but with a pro cover re-attached. CBCS 0.3 grade but still decent PQ and displayed great) on Ebay and figured it would get SOME traction as a no-reserve auction....but nope...it ended up barely going for over $100.

What was your LAST GA purchase in this lousy year?
Sauce Dog replied to Robot Man's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Looks like I actually made a big final GA purchase for the year! Was able to squeeze out a win on this auction (my first on Comicconnect). I've been struggling trying to source any of the full-mask Doctor Fate covers from this run at a decent price (found a few, but nearly all of em were asking double the rate I pegged em for). -
What is the true 1st villain team-up?
Sauce Dog replied to Sauce Dog's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Found this article by someone who was also trying to figure this out, and it does sound like Wotan and Karkull might be the first team-up (not the first super team though, just two established villains joining forces). http://outofthequicksand.blogspot.com/2012/05/first-supervillain-team-comic-book.html -
What is the true 1st villain team-up?
Sauce Dog replied to Sauce Dog's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
That's a good one and those are higher profile villains today than Wotan and Karkull are, but like you say it was later - 1944 -
What is the true 1st villain team-up?
Sauce Dog replied to Sauce Dog's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
That is less a team-up and more of an established alliance from the get-go, the characters have no previous separate stories (unlike my example) -
Just curious to see what the earliest known 1st super villain team-up in comics is. While I know Fantastic Four #6 is labeled by CGC as the '1st Marvel villain team-up' that is the Silver Age already. I personally know that More Fun Comics #70 (1941) features both Wotan and Karkull teaming up in order to take on Doctor Fate (Wotan was left buried underground by Fate, and managed to project his astral form to find help - he meets Karkull, who has been trapped in his shadow form by Fate and agrees to team up). What is the first DC team up, I assume it isn't More Fun #70, and what is the first ever team-up in comics in general?

I also gave away many of these early Archie series, just recently to a friend who had a son who has been loving Ninja Turtles - so I'm happy to have given him some issues that might be rediscovered in a few decades as they dig for nostalgia edit: I WILL however be mentioning to the father to make sure not to throw those issues away if ever it comes up. He's better to tuck em away and keep em for the long haul.

That is actually the reason I think the 4th prints won't see as much gain as the others - it is the only other print that says 'REPRINT' on the cover, which I think turns some people off as it explicitly means it isn't technically 'original' print (however the 4th does have other stuff going for it, such as being the first full Shredder cover appearance)
