  1. I saw this posted in a Facebook group, and wanted to see if anyone knew what the story was. There's a Captain Marvel Adventures 7 and 9 up for sale with the notation <<"Southern States Food, Inc." insert glued to interior front cover.>> It seems they were a margarine manufacturer out of Dallas. The seller's pumping them as one of a kind. I don't doubt it's rare to find a copy with the insert still attached, but does anyone know more about it?
  2. Syracuse, near the big mall. I went to that store a few years ago, and left the shop swearing under my breath. Had I received any service, I would've used that opening to swear much more loudly, but they were just chatting it up amongst themselves. I think the pre-faded issues were priced at exactly twice Overstreet... $12 bronze ASM? $24 sticker. Lots of stock, tons of space, but terrible prices. No surprise that the books hung on the wall unsold until they were ruined. A boardie runs Collectibles Galore, a little north of there, which is a much better shop, and there's a fantastic fish restaurant on the way, the Clam Bar. Both are worth a visit if you're in the area.
  3. I'm surprised how few people say they're addicts for comics... you have to be, for the amount of time spent on them.
  4. I dont believe the crazy money that signed books are getting is sustainable, so I wouldnt use that as an investment strategy.
  5. *puts bomb inside of an Eternals 5, hands it to you, and walks away*
  6. Should be plenty of copies of those Silver Surfers around... 50 to about 86, an Infinity War crossover, are very common. Discount bin divers are going to find plenty of these
  7. The white cover was the first print, the red cover was the second print. Nothing special about it, just an artistic idea in a slow period for the title.
  8. If it's an inexpensive book, no, I want the grade of the run to match the rest of the books, so I'll wait. If it's GA, atom, or early silver of a certain value, I'll take a low grade copy with specific defects if I can find it, and that'll be my keeper.
  9. I was keeping this one as a reminder to check bags and boards, but yours is much prettier!
  10. Standard is what everyone uses. You want a little bit of clearance around the edges of the book so if there's a bump, the board takes it, and not the book. Curious... does anyone use halfbacks and mylites for their cheapie/modern books? I'm on the fence, but I really don't like the crinkle of a mylite. If I like the series, it's getting a fullback and mylite2 no matter what it's worth.
  11. Is that our friends who are fundraising to get out of bankruptcy? insufficiently_thoughtful_persons. That Carnage would turn over in hours.
  12. Mickey as in Mickey Mouse? If you're flipping that, condition is king, and you're more likely to find high grade Gemstones from the 90s than silver or bronze Dell or Gold Keys. Wait, he's what? Drunk? Oh, never mind...
  13. Had the buyer not accused the seller of jerking him around, I think the explanation of the non-paying notice would have gone over smoothly, and business could continue. The OP acted appropriately for the situation, but are comic guys always this immature and mouthy? I know we're a solitary, unsociable bunch, but all of these arguments start because one guy screams "I'm Batman!" and ignites the situation.
  14. That's where I'm at with this as well. I strongly believe the offending party is using the prisoner's dilemma as his defense. Deny everything, and accept lesser blame. Does he think if he admits fault, that he's liable for finding a copy at full price to replace the lost one? Is that all this is? Either way, not someone I want to deal with, and I believe the buyer is now entitled to compensation before removal from the list is possible.
  15. Why do people feel the need to add the word "solid" before a grade? I had a guy tell me a book was a solid Fair once, and I replied "there's nothing solid about a Fair"
  16. Here's one... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Green-Lantern-76-April-1970-DC-KEY-1st-Neal-Adams-art-in-Good-G-Condition/254180748075?hash=item3b2e5a6b2b:g:HnAAAOSwUf9cnS8b&autorefresh=true Comes with an angry looking girlfriend and everything!
  17. I bought a 1974 Spirit coloring book locally, and on the first page was a sticker covering up the publisher's logo. I started collecting in 1989, so I never got to do a lot of mail order. Can anyone tell me more about this? Mostly, are all copies of this book tagged, and where else might this have happened?
  18. Most people don't know how bad we have it. Ottawa is comic-poor: a lot of small dealers asking big money for small books. Gatineau/Hull is worse, all the back issues come from an overpriced Ottawa dealer. There are probably a bunch of copies in Montreal, though. Check with Rosaire Fontaine at the Walkley show, he's a good guy, and doesn't have the stink of a Montreal dealer on him that the others have.
  19. Seems like good fun to me, and unless they're missing from the Photo Journals, people have seen 'em before.
  20. Please remove your thread from Facebook if you want to post these here.
  21. I've had issues with Heritage grading, but their customer service is impeccable. I emailed them to get a (return) credit applied to a purchase, and they took care of it immediately. Never asked about a time delay, though.
