  1. It's a wash more or less, the add on is less than paypal, 2.3% vs. 2.9%, but there is an added 30 cents per listing sold instead of per order. Paypal now rolls in the sales tax charged into their total selling fee , whereas before you only had to pay the paypal fee. So one item sold for $100 (inc. shipping) with no sales tax charged will cost you $12.60 in fees vs. $13.20 before. 10 listings that add up to $100 (inc. shipping) to the same buyer and have $10 in sales tax will cost you $16.53 in fees vs. $13.49 before.
  2. So far the furthest off I've had CGC grade anything form what I thought pre-submission was 1.5 points. It was in a batch of 9 pre-hero Marvels that I felt were in the 7.0-8.0 range, that I sent in around a decade ago. They came back 7.0-7.5, except for one 6.0, which I had felt was a 7.5. I've sent in a couple of GA books over the years that I thought there was a 50/50 chance were trimmed, but wasn't sure, though it can be very hard to tell the way some books from the era were manufactured, odd cuts abound. Both came back in Universal holders. Maybe not a "surprise", but a relief.
  3. Price drop good until roughly 6PM PST today, then it goes to ebay. Thanks again for looking.
  4. In the early 70s, when I was 13, I was flush with paper route money, and for a few months decided I was going to collect every DC and Marvel comic printed, except romance. That included reprints, westerns, and other esoteric stuff I normally wouldn't have been interested in. One of the books I reluctantly purchased ( especially as it was relatively expensive), but did so anyway, was the 1st Treasury sized Rudolph Collectors Edition. When my main collecting buddy found out, he teased me mercilessly. Twenty years later he would go to local shows with about $20 in his pocket and mostly buy up 50s and 60s romance books for a 25-50 cents a book because he loved their kitsch value.

  9. It may just be an attempt to raise offer prices. Something like this happened to me a few years back, though I forget the book, and it wasn't particularly high priced. I got a couple unsolicited offers, but wasn't interested in lowering the price, and there was clearly interest, so I relisted it a couple weeks later at at a slightly higher price, figuring if I got another offer it would be closer to my original price and the book ended up selling quickly at full asking. But after a year or so of still being listed, I suppose the argument could be made this isn't a good strategy.
  10. Tough question. A lot of great pulp cover artists had similar styles, especially over the passage of time for those that were around from the 30s and into the 50s for paperback covers. Baumhofer could look like George Rozen who could look like Belarski who could look like Saunders who could look like DeSoto, etc. You could probably put H.J. Ward in there somewhere as well, but his women all had a very distinct face, reportedly modeled after his wife's. I tend to prefer the traditional stylists above to some of the more individual artists that painted pulp covers, though I appreciate them as well. Brundage is probably my favorite of the artists with their own very distinct style. George Rosen is probably the most creative of the above when it comes to composition, and Saunders the most dynamic.
  11. Anyone else still waiting on books from the May auction? I've found comicconnect to be the slowest in terms of shipping wins in the past, but my check was cashed six weeks ago. I called last Monday and was told my order was in the queue. I realize NYC was hit hard by the pandemic, which could slow things, but even a "your order is being processed" update would have been nice, but nothing since they emailed the acknowledgment of the order back in May.
  12. Yeah, but mostly PCH content, so does it really count as SA?
  13. The Mystic is from 1962. "Collector's Item!" is the title of the first story, which was originally featured in Marvel Tales 119.
  14. Crime Suspenstories is probably my favorite GA run for stories. It may not be any better than some of the horror or sci-fi runs, but crime is my favorite fiction genre, and Johnny Craig is my favorite EC artist.

  18. About a third of the run is highly desirable due to scarcity, Hitler covers or cool L.B.Cole covers. This in turn creates interest in the entire run, which is a nice length to make an effort at completing once the more expensive high demand issues are acquired.
