  1. #27 certainly looks like a Lois Lane cover, but since it doesn't reference an actual story, I guess we will never be certain of the artist's intent. Either way, #29 is undoubtably a classic Lois Lane cover, which alone could justify added value.

  3. I vaguely recall either seeing on the boards or being told by a collector that they didn't like buying CGC books with grades ending in .5, it bugged them when they would flip through their slabs.
  4. Usually when a 4.0 looks better than a 7.0, it's because the 4.0 has some hard to see in the slab flaw, like a spine split or detached cover, and the 7.0 has ugly foxing, or a dust shadow, or a weak color strike, or transfer staining or the some combination thereof. The grades may be more or less accurate by hobby standards, but eye-appeal will frequently win out with the collector who looks beyond the grade.
  5. I'd be tempted to offer the whole $300 + $50 grading fees back for the book if returned, and see if the buyer is still interested in valuing the book at that price.
  6. Every book has a grade range that reasonable and knowledgable people would consider "accurate". Sometimes there is more of consensus on grade, sometimes there's a 3 grade range where opinions get fairly evenly distributed, and those opinions can shift with the individual as well. You could send it back to CGC and end up with a 7.0 again, or a 6.5 or a 6.0. I will say a 10" crease, even on the back cover that doesn't break color, is usually going to warrant a grade less than 7.0 with most people, and I wouldn't count on getting such a grade from either CGC or CBCS on a resubmit.
  7. Price reductions on remaining books. This thread will close Sunday evening. Thanks again for looking.
  8. HANGMAN #3 CGC 3.0 cr/ow pages Tape on cover and int. cover (It looks like there would be a spine split to the bottom staple without it) $2950 Now $2700 SOLD

ALL-WINNERS #21 CGC 4.5. ow/w pages Tape on int. cover (I don't know anything more) $1900 SOLD
  10. Give the refund and block the buyer. In six months it'll be a $25 book anyway.
  11. It's a wash more or less, the add on is less than paypal, 2.3% vs. 2.9%, but there is an added 30 cents per listing sold instead of per order. Paypal now rolls in the sales tax charged into their total selling fee , whereas before you only had to pay the paypal fee. So one item sold for $100 (inc. shipping) with no sales tax charged will cost you $12.60 in fees vs. $13.20 before. 10 listings that add up to $100 (inc. shipping) to the same buyer and have $10 in sales tax will cost you $16.53 in fees vs. $13.49 before.
  12. So far the furthest off I've had CGC grade anything form what I thought pre-submission was 1.5 points. It was in a batch of 9 pre-hero Marvels that I felt were in the 7.0-8.0 range, that I sent in around a decade ago. They came back 7.0-7.5, except for one 6.0, which I had felt was a 7.5. I've sent in a couple of GA books over the years that I thought there was a 50/50 chance were trimmed, but wasn't sure, though it can be very hard to tell the way some books from the era were manufactured, odd cuts abound. Both came back in Universal holders. Maybe not a "surprise", but a relief.
  13. Price drop good until roughly 6PM PST today, then it goes to ebay. Thanks again for looking.
  14. In the early 70s, when I was 13, I was flush with paper route money, and for a few months decided I was going to collect every DC and Marvel comic printed, except romance. That included reprints, westerns, and other esoteric stuff I normally wouldn't have been interested in. One of the books I reluctantly purchased ( especially as it was relatively expensive), but did so anyway, was the 1st Treasury sized Rudolph Collectors Edition. When my main collecting buddy found out, he teased me mercilessly. Twenty years later he would go to local shows with about $20 in his pocket and mostly buy up 50s and 60s romance books for a 25-50 cents a book because he loved their kitsch value.
