  4. Thanks guys! I think I am just going to keep saving for now. The one thing I should say is that all of my comic purchases for the past few years have been completely funded through my "part & small time wheeling and dealing" profits (see my other journal). I have a small local show in April and I need to get my butt in gear selling more online. No funds come out of the household budget for my buying comics for personal books. Nothing on credit card (unless I have all the funds to pay right away). Now, I don't have to 100% do it this way but I am choosing to do it this way. I like to maintain a small "float" if a collection comes my way too. I also have other interests and my spouse and I have lots of other thing we like to do...So yes, I could maybe be a bit further along but this is just the way I decided to proceed. For now.
  5. That is a sweet book! While I have not "landed" on a grade point, seeing prices, I am probably going to be more of a 6.0 - 7.0 player on an ASM #3. I noticed that Sparkle City has a 6.0 for auction...The colours are totally over saturated or something on the scan...But damn that is a nice ASM #3 CGC 8.0... One thing I would like to say is that I really hope people don't think the sole purpose of the journal is just one big "fishing expedition". Of course, I don't mind (at all) if people send me pics or advise of books they have, I just don't want folks to get annoyed if I don't pull the trigger. I really do mean for this journal to 'chronicle' the journey towards building the run and ups and downs along the way and get feedback from fellow collectors and their own experiences/thoughts about collecting in general. If I am to have any hope of completing the run, I have to strike a balance...If I didn't care about eye appeal, condition, etc, I could probably complete this rather quickly, but if I buy the most expensive book I can afford at the time (and I know there is the line of thought to "buy the most expensive book you can afford, especially with keys"), completing the run would take me a very, very long time. I am striving to achieve a balance of between eye appeal, grade and price. If/when I complete the run, I just want to have a nice solid, well built ASM collection.
  6. Thanks Oak. Also, when I say I have not bought anything, I have not bought anything outside my collecting focus either, despite some temptations. The only comics I have bought a few collections for resale for my hobby fun business (which helps funds my personal collection). I would say, outside of AF #`15, my personal top two remaining are ASM #1 and ASM #3. I wouldn't be surprised if I chased a ASM #3 before a ASM #1 - I don't know, I just "like it" more...But ASM #1 is the bigger fish...
  7. Well, it has been awhile since I have posted anything...Reason being, I haven't purchased anything. I'm feeling a bit of "collector paralysis" lately. I have seen books that I would like but are either a) higher grade and thereby higher price than what I want to pay for a particular copy (even though some have been very fairly priced ) and b) the typical over priced stuff you see on eBay. I randomly check out dealer sites but either too high a grade, too low or "not the books I am looking for". My current personal "Top 5" are ASM #1, #3, #6, #9 and #15. The only "plus" about being "gun shy" of late is that the comic fund continues to (slowly) grow. While there are plenty of other books in my price range and run that I could buy, I just feel anything, even say if it is $200 for a nice graded copy of #38 (or whatever) that it is taking $200 away from one of the "bigger books", so I am reluctant to even buy "commons". I am still committed to the goal of finishing the run, just I sometimes wonder if I am being "too picky" or maybe I'm just being cheap Sigh.
  8. I picked these books up raw. I thought the UXM #221 would hit 9.6 but oh well. Pleased with the results of the other two.
  9. I saw the film last night and I really, really enjoyed it. My one quibble...
  10. Phase 1 of new auction up...About 40 nice silver and bronze age books...Captain Marvel, Machine Man, a few Nick Fury books and a nice selection of Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner are up. Plan on adding more throughout the week. Any questions, please ask! Thanks! http://www.ebay.com/sch/more_fun_comics/m.html?_ipg=50&_sop=12&rt=nc&LH_Auction=1
  11. Thanks very much. The journal has also allowed me to get some great advice from other more seasoned sellers, which has been incredibly helpful.
  12. I am still waiting on Graphic Con ("pure" comic con), I am confirmed for the Northern Game Expo all the way in October 2017. Website is here (needs updating): http://northerngameexpo.com/about/ I was approached by one of the organizers and asked to attend, so this hastened the approval process. As it is primarily a video game show, I still have expectations that I should do ok and I will be filling the comic book niche. Regardless, this show is an hour and a bit from my house and my spouse and I can make a day of it anyway as Sudbury has a few stores and shops that mine does not, so minimal investment to attend, so why not?
  13. Fun story this morning. Just as I am dropping off my wife at work, I get a text from my dad with a picture that looks like Batman #1, yes the original Batman #1. I call him and ask why is he sending me that pic. My second cousin and her boyfriend were visiting my parents on their way to Ottawa. They know I collect, buy and sell so they wanted to show me the book. Turns out the pic they sent me was of a book their friend found in the wall of a home he was helping to renovate. My first instinct is that it is HAS to be a reprint. My second thought was "what if it is not?" - Remember the Action Comics #1 that was found in a wall a few years ago? http://www.cbr.com/action-comics-1-found-in-wall-of-house-sells-for-175000/ So, my second cousin's b/f messages their friend and gets him to send me some more pics of the book. Long story short, I was late getting to work and after looking at all the pics, it is the Batman Masterpiece Edition. So, while disappointing, it is still a cool find. I may end up buying it or the owner may just keep it. I wonder why though, what would possess someone to put a comic in the wall? I wonder if the person who did it thought "I am going to put this in here so whomever finds it will think they won the lottery" with evil glee in their heart.
  14. Recently sold an early Fantastic Four book to Rahim. Great communication, FAST payment. Pleasure to deal with, hope to do more business in the future. Thanks!
  15. Received my shipment today from Dales previous sales thread. Everything was perfect. Thanks again!
  16. I don't bother scouring CL or Kijiji too much but I do have an ad up saying I buy comics. I just use the free option and when time, renew it. I don't feel the need to pay for it to keep it at the top. More often than not, responses to my ad lead nowhere but I have made a few good buys from the ad to make it worthwhile to keep up.
  17. "Fun" email exchange today...Guy looking to sell this book...This was the best pic he sent me: I could tell there were multiple spine ticks and a chip missing from the lower right...As the guy is 45 minutes away, I just asked again for a bit more info and his asking price...Would not send me pics of the back cover nor the interiors, just wanted to "meet". I also asked where he initially got it from as it was the only book he had... "...I bought the book from a very good older friend of mine that paid 250$ for it years ago. I paid 400$. I would like to get at least 600$ but need at least what I paid. I think looking at it in person would be better for both of us. Would you be willing to do that?" I politely declined.
  18. Don't apologize! I got this in a sizable lot I purchased recently so all is good regardless!
  19. No shows in North Bay in the summer months. Just April and October (Antique and Collectibles Show) and in November at the Gateway FanEx, which just had their first go...Will be interesting to see what improvements are made for that one, but I am confirmed for those three. Sudbury Graphic Con in early June is the closest...That is the one I applied to as a vendor so I am crossing my fingers that I am accepted. Honestly, will be disappointed if I am not...
  20. Cool, thanks! I have been asked to do one and think I might try one one day (in the GTA) but what is a deterrent for me is anything on a Sunday is a "no-go" as I would have to take time off work and the expense of gas, hotel, meals, etc...I just don't know if I have "enough" to compete with the "big boys". ...My worry is that I would make a big expenditure (to me) and not really come out that far ahead...I am still kind of "risk adverse"... But I should probably try at least once at some point...
  21. Recently acquired as part of a collection. No problems with interiors, staples, etc FRONT BACK - Light stain by the dude's left ear by spine Thanks in advance!
