  1. Greg has started doing this a lot - he grabs a stack of his artist comps, gets them pre-screened for 9.8, does a sketch on each of them (which is witnessed by CGC), and then sells them in his eBay store once they're slabbed. He either fast-tracks or does the books onsite, so there's no 3 month waiting period. There are several other artists who do the exact same thing. I assumed it was actually him, based on the ID and store name. In order to limit the amount of time the buyer is waiting for his/her purchase, does the artist start sketching and submitting his/her comps before the book hits the public?
  2. I agree for the most part. I'm pretty selective with the ones I get since there are so many. It's both a blessing (due to the great artwork) and a curse (due to the amount made -- especially with Marvel's current method of pimping out #1s with a minimum of 4 variants). Some are the price of a classic key, which is ridiculous. But that just my I am still blown away by the prices Greg Horn was getting for his slabbed Gamestop variants with his and Lee's sig and a quick sketch. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-1-CGC-9-8-GAME-STOP-SIGNED-SKETCHED-BY-GREG-HORN-STAN-LEE-NR-/321443785853?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4ad78aec7d&nma=true&si=LAPHHcRad1Kp%252BtuMrQDJVRkWXow%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Death-of-Wolverine-1-CGC-9-8-REMARKED-edition-GAMESTOP-variant-by-GREG-HORN-/361033466606?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item540f4582ee&nma=true&si=LAPHHcRad1Kp%252BtuMrQDJVRkWXow%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 just wow... Greg Horn's Spidey head looks a hell of a lot better than Stan's though. That second listing is interesting. I wondered why the picture was so blurry around the specifics of the CGC case, yet everything else in the picture is focused so clearly. And how someone was able to get this comic so fast, remarked, and graded. Turns out, if you keep reading the fine print, this is a pre-sale. Also, based on the seller's name/store, someone very closely associated with Greg Horn (or GH himself). The listing also mentions having 15 of these. Quite a good amount of dough if they go for the same amount. Lastly, if Greg is marking these himself, is he going to have a CGC rep standing over him while he does it or does he get a "pass" b/c he's an artist? Or are people "winning" this auction going to have to wait 3 months to finally get their item? Like I said...interesting.
  3. If anyone is in the area, I saw about 4 or so copies of 3A and 3B at the Forbidden Planet London store while on vacation. I would have bought them, but had no way to get them back to the states in good condition. That store also has a ton of Southern Bastards FB variants (as one would assume) on the shelves. (Among other FB variants.)
  4. For someone complaining in multiple places about this, you sure made out quite well.
  5. Were they for sale for $1 each, or is that the usual Craigslist ad junk? Did you end up buying all of them?
  6. Greg worked with me on price and shipped very quickly.
  7. nice! Yeah, I'll have to say that's a sweet looking copy! (thumbs u Thanks! And a big tip of the hat to Joey. It looks even better next to her "second cousin twice removed"
  8. They had soft bottom corners and a few spine breaks. You have to look from the side. Yeah, guess the bottoms were worse than I remember. More surprised with the range of grades on those versus the actual grades. But, like I said, overall I am very pleased. Only complaint I have is that I missed the suit.
  9. Atom = Adam. I found a rough copy and sold it immediately; I thought people were nuts. I suppose the guesswork is finally coming true.
  10. New additions c/o WW Chicago and joeypost (). Took a "shot" on Longshot and came up short. Not sure what happened on the Hellblazers, but very happy with the last 2 slabs; makes all the rest worth it:
  11. Getting my copy graded right now at WW Chicago. Can't wait to see what I get.
  12. Went to my LCS last night and found a few copies of #2A. Since I went Thursday instead of Wednesday, I have no idea if there were copies of #2B or #3 that I missed. Anyone have an extra #1B and #2B that wants to traide?
  13. I believe they turned off that functionality in one of the latest "upgrades".
  14. Don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I see your location is Chicagoland. Were these found at a resale shop in the burbs or somewhere completely different?
  15. Let's be honest here; this is probably how it will go: Shark will not get his book (at least not through Lockford) Lockford will go on the PL Lockford doesn't care b/c he won't sell here anymore - and never has* Another exclusive variant comes up Lockford links/offers it here b/c why not? Money is money A PL notice will be put in the thread People from the boards will buy it b/c they want it (and may have a discount) And the world turns * Except for that one time he did.
  16. Very nice. Getting mine graded soon; love that cover. Did the back bring it down? Looks like a 7.0+.
  17. Wasn't commenting on your search skills, just still not sure what the 1st Batman Beyond is.
  18. Here are 2 CGC copies - 1 of each cover - and neither says 1st anything. One doesn't say anything at all. (nice eBay ID) http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=superman+batman+annual+4+cgc&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc I also cannot find a CGC note on a Batman Beyond #1,
  19. Finally (and thanks to some boardie help) able to complete my set: Obligatory bed sheet shot! If I can get it around to it this weekend, I'll put up my 18 hoard. -- dave
  20. Ahh, I get it now. "Where it went" was in regards to where the price would have ended up, not where the actual listing went. Then, very cool. Would be cooler if rh, who last I saw was active, would chime in on where it came from.
  21. Details, man! Details! haha So he is the one that put up the auction, then ended it early, yet pops up here and wonders where it went? Smelling fishy in here.
  22. MCS gives the grade on the books they receive. They are very strict too. Yeah MCS gives the grade, I had it as a 9.2 but I wasn't sure how CGC would hit the misalignment. It failed a 9.6 prescreen but I thought 7.5 was pretty brutal. And that's exactly why I don't send books to them. Strict is good but I think they're too strict. So you're saying it's a buyer's paradise.....
