  1. I think I just missed out on a nice CL 25 on eBay by seconds. I should have let my wife put the kid to bed.
  2. I managed a comic book store when I was 20. And that was in 1991, at the peak of comic shops. The guy that owned the store was one of the least ethical people I ever encountered. I can’t imagine what someone has to be like to be successful today. I know all of the LCS in my area are pretty bad...
  3. A lot of good information in your post; I have seen your posts around but somehow never knew you were a grader. Just highlighting and bolding this section as I said the exact same thing and was told I was wrong and rang your bell to put me in my place. Seems that didn't work out.
  4. Not sure what you’re trying to say here regarding sucessful comic store owners.
  5. From what I’ve seen, magazines are graded somewhat looser than comics. Or to put it a better way, they are graded accurately but leniency is given due to the larger size of a magazine and other factors making it harder to keep in pristine condition.
  6. I saw one of those. FWIW, that 9.2 wasn’t really a 9.2. At least not what I would expect for a 9.2. Just passing along info as the price on the 9.2 compared to the 9.4 was surprising to a lot of people. How about the 9.2 that is up now?
  7. FWIW two Vampirella CGC 9.0 on eBay -- one right before the HA auction and one right after -- sold for ~$200 more than the HA 9.2.
  8. Had five magazines come back today, grades 6.5 - 9.2. All have notes, including the 9.2. I guess they were just lazy on my last batch.
  9. Not to force you to sell or do anything you don’t want to, but if you want to continue to sell, isn’t there USPS pick up at your home?
  10. Unless the book is super high grade or the graders were in a hurry, there should be notes, regardless of what type of book it is... No notes on my 3 mags w/ grades of 9.6, 9.2, and 9.0. Does 9.0 in a magazine count as "super high grade"? My submission of 7 economy magazines just finished and I expect some 7's so we'll see what happens there with notes.
  11. Daniel and I talked back and forth and worked out a good price for both of us on a DC 359. He paid promptly; no issues. -- dave
  12. How does this in any way change my point? They have services others dont, and that could be the reason people choose them over others. That's it. Sure; and what does your point have to do with the final amount paid to sellers?
  13. Sure, but that isn't free. They charge per hour of appraisal plus all travel costs.
  14. So the OP's examples of $2k+ items don't count? I'm sure you were able to cut a good deal when selling your collection, but what about the "average" seller taking Heritage at what their agreement says? (Speaking of which, is it just me, or is it rather difficult to find on ha.com what fees they actually take on a consignment?)
  15. How do you “bash” a fact? Ignoring specific issues and results, the commission and buyer premium rates are what they are. Heritage charges more; end of story. eBay — if using PayPal — also has an approx 3% on top of the 10% (though if you are a top seller the 10 goes down to 8%) to factor in, all things considered. What other auction houses charge additional fees depending on payment type?
  16. I guess there aren’t grader’s notes for magazines so hard to know what it was knocked down for.
  17. It was for show I figured, as handling a comic with gloves is fine for looking at front and back covers but you can’t take it out of the bag and board nor flip through pages with gloves. However, even for show, it sends the wrong message if that’s what people expect and are paying for and that’s not what’s happening. Overall, my 2 cents on the video (FWIW): Talk about a water bottle, no gloves, bending the comic too much, how the pages were turned, etc. A lot of “this could have happened doing it that way” or “if that cap came unscrewed and spilled all over” — but none of that did happen. This was a comic evaluation where a valuable comic was evaluated and came out the same condition it went in.
  18. Ha, yeah oils/fingerprints only transfer during grading, not merely handling. But I know what you're saying. I think it was more directed at those who said CGC should NOT use gloves when grading because (and I agree as long as hands are clean) it's harder to handle more-delicate pages with gloves on, more likely to do damage with gloves on. You don't have the very fine touch needed. I don’t recall if I read a comment that CGC does not use gloves for grading or if it was a comment from CGC. If it was CGC, I have no idea why they have a picture showing gloves; unless their policy had changed? Or they are CYA right now.
  19. Yeah, welp. Got their hands caught in the cheetos jar with that one. However, for the video in question, that was not grading the comic.
  20. Nice copy. Does it have the mask? Yep. Even though it’s loose, you have to include it in the submission to get a blue label.
  21. I should have discreetly marked some books and see if they’re there in August for Wizard still marked as new.
