  1. Nah, that one is not the "real" CCA. That one was a sham code prior to the CCA.
  2. While not exactly spine chilling, Lee Elias could draw some decent enough headlights & legs...
  3. Great point. I think the whole concept of a "dark room" cover was pulled off beautifully, I might ad. Still, one wonders about "Mr. Chatt." Is he the guy in the photo with the dolls, or the mysterious person developing the picture? A delusional or a voyeur? Guess we'll never know!?
  4. Yup. Too bad the interior reprints Harvey's WITCHES TALES # 7 & none of those stories match up to the cover!
  5. Harvey was trying to tone things down as the CCA approached. Years ago I felt this was a lame cover, but these days it has grown on me since the more I see it, the more creepy its subtleness becomes.
  6. #14 is an unforgettable piece. Giant Bat, flaming skull. Classic. Didn't take more than one look for Scrooge to put it on his want list, eh?! No. 10 is probably the other cover that I would say would be the most iconic of the run, in fact it's probably more recognized. #7 never appealed to me. The proportions look off IMO. It just looks like a hack job when stacked up even against 8 or 9. Just my 2 cents. I also tend to like the covers where Dr. Death isn't on a postage stamp! But I do like # 7's cover (corpse in a Pint glass) gotta love it! Yeah, I think I'm in the minority about # 7.

  8. This one is possibly the most iconic of the series with maybe one exception...
  9. Thanks! Here's another from the run. I like this one a LOT!
  10. The colors aren't too bad, it is the perspective that doesn't grab me. That # 3 is too rich for my blood, what with the spine split...
  11. I don't doubt this was the case but still it was a neat way to connect the stories together in a respective issue and make the reader feel as if he were being told the tales by an unnamed host. I myself only own 6 Atlas horror books and they all happen to use this "single storyteller" method. This method wasn't used all too often. I agree it is a nice touch, though. Makes you feel a connection. Atlas dabbled with a few letters columns as well, another attempt at connection I find cool. Wish there had been more.
  12. Jayman, you have yet another fine example of what I refer to as pch "title swipery." I just love how the publishers would name their stories after the titles of rival publications. I see this time & again, yet it never fails to amuse me!
  13. Hadn't seen that prelim before, do you own it? While Freas may be more well known for his work in other genres, I find that cover to be his most iconic piece. Of course, I am a horror head, so I may be somewhat biased.
  14. hey, I skipped # 3. Imagine that! If anyone has a copy (& I don't mean swiping a link) please post! It's probably in the Top 10 Toughest pch books, IMO.
  15. The more Maneely work I see, the more I like his stuff. If he hadn't died young, we probably would have seen Spider-Man and Hulk by Maneely at some point, since he was one of Stan Lee's favorites. Fast, prolific and distinctive. Seeing this Astonishing cover, I can imagine that his Spider-Man would have been magnificent (not that Ditko's wasn't). Jack Indeed. I put Joe in my Top 3 of PCH Atlas artists. The more I see his work, the more I think it defines 50's Atlas horror.
  16. That CoC #24 would have been a smidge high (by maybe a measly $5) for a Harvey in that shape IMO had it not been what it is. However, CoC #24 is a tough find, so you got a good deal on it! The other purchase is right in line, bro!
