In general I agree with Nexus - I would buy OA over a slab 11 times out of 10 from the same book if prices were relatively close. I think, as was mentioned, that the pool of slab collectors is greater and slabs are seen as a more liquid asset than a typical OA page. As much as we all love the comic media 1st, finances have to be a consideration.

I will do it just to make sure the other guy doesnt get any "deals".
Used to do it a lot on x-men auctions
I KNEW something fishy was going on when I was trying to complete my x-men run

Nice!
I've really been digging Eaton's pencils lately. I may have to get one of his pages
-
Those are sweet.
I bought some of Mico's Moonknight and Rage of Thor work from you a few years ago, before I joined the boards. Very nice pencils.

I can share some of my more recent acquisitions if you like, but...it's all downhill from here.
Even your 'next tier' pieces make some of us novice OA collectors jealous
Thanks for sharing

Ok.
Let me get set up.

Court has an impressive collection on CAF. Anyone who can sport a Romita sr. ASM OA cover AND a McFarlane ASM OA cover is a player.
-
I feel like I get redirected to an alternate comic universe whenever I come to this thread...

You need to set one up; I want to see the hoard of Chew OA you're sitting on

I haven't posted this in awhile
Rick Grimes (Tony Moore) vs Tony Chu (Rob Guillory)
That is too rad!!!!
Great commission piece!

The Scarlet Spider cover is sweet.
I really like the CPW3 Dredd also. He's one artist I love & don't have any work by. Maybe soon...
-
Also really like the pencils on that first UXF page, Pete! Who is the artist?
Looks like Scott Eaton's signature; I have one of his older pages, but he's really been nailing it lately.
Thanks for the props on Debris 4; I got it from Jason at Interior Pages. Funny story: I originally asked about another page & he sent a photo with this cover in the background (this was a couple of months before it was released). Even though the image of this cover was partially cut off, I could tell it was a great cover, so I changed my order.
And I agree re: Riley; he really brings something different to to table artistically - hard to define, but I'd have to call him an experimental artist.
-
I know Debris never got any love, but I loved this cover to issue 4 by Riley Rossmo. SO many good design elements: composition, the foreboding outline of the monster (can't remember what it was called), and Riley's unique inking style to name a few.

I got an Alana sketch!
Nice Score!
Since there's no OA for Saga, any of Fiona's sketches should be a keeper!

.... required a Pinkerton guard ....
I need to figure out how to use this phrase in an everyday conversation...

What I would do is probably by most people standards, but I would run it for 10 days..Starting so it ends on Sunday night.....Opening bid of .01 cents, no reserve and let it run it's course.
I think this does several things. One, you're giving everyone a chance to see it (running if for 10 days) that would be interested. I know most of the boardies here will be bidding. Secondly, if there is a no reserve, you're letting the market really decide what it's worth. Putting a BIN, even a "high" one could actually be leaving money on the table. I know that even with a BIN of $750, I'd be a buyer for that book...It's a no brainer. Especially if you're the first one to market.
You don't want people emailing you saying "I would have given you X dollars more than your asking price".....
This is also a great time to be putting this book out there. Buyers have tax refund money, convention season is a few months away and there is still plenty of places where we're trapped indoors due to cold weather/snow...
Best of luck and congrats !..
If it sells for $750 BIN, the raw flood gates will open and feeding frenzy will begin.

I agree - if you're the first CGC 9.8, go high.

I'm still buying Blackacre 1s like they're going out of style!
Hit up Carter3175... he might can hook you up
... Viper days - wasn't he buying 100 - 1000 of everything?

using TWD as a measuring stick is misleading. The popularity of the comic/show coincided with a cultural rise of interest in zombies. The book and show are a great product, but I think they caught lighting in a bottle the way that the once-in-a-generation cultural icons do; Star Wars, TMNT, Star Trek are a few. I'm not saying it can't happen again - there are a lot great books out and I'd love to see some of these creator owned books get big. I know other boardies feel the same way.
That being said, NBC programming is currently terrible, so if TSG is done well, it could be a hit for them.

Love your service Whetteon - keep up the good work. It's always an interesting read. My son - who's really into video games - loves looking at your game section.

Love that blog post. So awesome...and a great example of why I love this book so much!
Yeah - it seems like a meme that could go viral.

Aren't they ready to go? I thought everything was set. Maybe we'll see them in Chicago?
John had a prototype Chog at AACC - I believe he said they'll ready for sale in mid-March. It was pretty cool; good quality.
