That is a great idea! I tend to lose track of interested buyers. This gives them a chance to note their interest for posterity. David S. Albright

Another one that works...In The Vault...it sends the message that you are not entertaining offers. David

This is such a first world problem, that I can't get too worked up about it, but why don't the auction houses get it? People who are bidding from home based on pictures from their laptop want shipping service. Not too hard to figure out.

I used to spend hours at the local arcade on "Flip Flop", and walk away from the machine with over ten free games showing for the next player. Fun! David

A Boy and his Tiger: A Tribute to Bill Watterson at CAM
aokartman replied to Monsterhoodoo's topic in Original Comic Art
Interesting concept. Does this have the blessing of Watterson? He could send a single piece and make it a real blast. David -
On the topic of online discounts, I would encourage online shoppers to place items in your "cart", and then walk away for a second. With me, its just a mouseover to the toolbar, or something similar. Some sites use that opportunity to offer you a discount immediately on your item before you leave. Worth a try! It works for them, because they get a new customer. And you get a nice discount. David

Thanks, That is a better version! I sure hope that site doesn't go behind a paywall. David

Yeah, and unless they specifically have proxy bidding, expect that your bid will just be grabbed regardless of the current activity. They may not just bid up for you like you have expected on ebay or heritage.

Love to hear about art in hand. Unfortunate about the long shipping time, but thanks for the story! David -
How "seriously" is OA taken by the mainstream art world?
aokartman replied to NC101's topic in Original Comic Art
I think original comic art has a ceiling because there is so much out there. An individual artist can control their output. The original comic art market is derived from countless sources of art, as opposed to the original artist, with some exceptions. The character-driven aspect also informs the prospect for sky-high pricing. It is quite a niche-y segment which prefers the knowledgeable, nostalgic collector, David -
'CGC is also excited to add five new collections to the list of recognized pedigrees. This brings the total number to 59 pedigrees, all of which will be featured on the CGC pedigree site page next week.' 59 pedigrees, whoa. This was announced in August 2019, I definitely have not been keeping up. David

Fed Extra Stupid Experience with HA package
aokartman replied to MyNameIsLegion's topic in Original Comic Art
I think there are some sellers (not me) who don't ship to boxes, so there could be some friction there in your collecting. Otherwise, I agree with the concept. Some collectors might not have a nearby box provider, plus there is a layer of expense with the box fee. David -
Anyone know anything about editor sheets?
aokartman replied to Unstoppablejayd's topic in Original Comic Art
Agree, and the more material that is archived from the dustbin of history, the better understanding we have about the process of creating an early comic book. Living in the past is an issue, however. Some stuff has to go. Just not quite yet! David -
Anyone know anything about editor sheets?
aokartman replied to Unstoppablejayd's topic in Original Comic Art
blue chip said.... I like this sort of thing probably more than most, with the proviso that I like the things that are genuine in-office production pieces that were made for the original printing. To me, and a few others, that makes them very interesting. The proliferation of faked "production pieces" has done much to damage the interest in them, as has the condemnation of some OA purists who sometimes get so caught up pointing out that it's "not original art" that they want you to believe a pre-production pieces with handwritten notes from a 1960s classic page should be no more valuable than a scan of the finished art made today -- which, in case it's not clear, is taking it, I think, way too far. Maybe if we could settle on a term for these things which did not offend the purists' ears, and which allowed us to condemn the fakery of scam artists offering "art" made yesterday at Kinkos -- maybe we could find what is their true value. This is the way I feel, too. Of course, the hand-drawn original art commands the highest price, and I think that's appropriate. The other production materials also have some collector interest, but are more likely to be faked. And if so easily faked, the market value has a plateau. Certification, authenticity certificate, is a rabbit hole I hope the hobby does not go down with any office pre-production material. Maybe it will remain a niche entry level field for collectors! Fingers crossed. Thanks for the good comment. David -

This is a really painful story, and I'm afraid it will be the new normal. Sorry about your bad experience! David -
Thanks for checking this out! Starting at $250, now $225, here is Tales Of Horror #11. SOLD $140. I have it graded at 4.5 with the collector pencil on the cover. Pages are counted, comic is complete. June 1954. Toby Press. It is a trending comic book with some strong recent sales for comparison, this book shapes up nicely. Pre-code horror with a hint of good girl bondage. Nice "Death Flower" cover, and remember to click a couple times on the image for full magnification. Pics below. Thanks for looking, David LINK TO THE TALES OF HORROR 11 AUCTION
