  1. John Romita Jr. Daredevil Man Without Fear large art:
  2. I wouldn't consider dumping a disappointing commission a 'flip', that's just trying to recover something to keep it from being a total loss. To me flipping is buying something with the intent to sell it for a profit which is almost never possible with a commission. Whether or not you'll be happy with a commission is always a gamble, and that's if you even get your piece in a timely manner or at all! The cost used to be low enough to take the risk but with most commissions starting at several hundred dollars I've lost my appetite for them and I've sold several unsatisfactory ones for well below what I paid. The only instance I can think of where it was possible to flip a commission was when Adam Hughes was charging $400 for con sketches and people were immediately flipping them on ebay for much more. In that case he was undercharging but most artists prices now are way too high in my opinion. Why gamble on an overpriced commission when you can often buy a published page by the artist where you know exactly what your are getting for less? Someone on these boards put it best, commissions are the 'new car' of the OA hobby, they depreciate the minute you 'drive it off the lot'...
  3. poor packaging rant: I just received an AE I purchased on ebay and I was dismayed to see the seller shipped it by just slapping postage on the IDW box... the box absorbed some damage and fortunately the book was ok but it could have easily been banged up worse. seems like it would be common sense to put it inside an oversized box and protect it but I guess common sense ain't so common anymore...
  4. I was shocked by the $38k final hammer (John Romita Jr and Al Williamson Daredevil #261 pg 8) for this piece. is this an extreme outlier or (new) normal for this era JRJR DD art? Besides featuring Kingpin and Typhoid Mary is there some particular significance to this issue that I'm overlooking?
  5. Does anyone have any idea how much of the signing/sketching fee goes to the 'talent' and how much goes to CGC?
  6. Looking to trade JRJR splash from X-Men #309 pg 8 for another JRJR or Mark Texeira splash (but I'll consider whatever else you may want to put up)...
  7. Does anyone have another John Romita Jr. cover that they would trade for this Punisher cover?
  8. bump, the first batch of Tim Vigil art auctions close tomorrow. check 'em out, tons of cool sketches very reasonably priced. great way to scratch that original art itch without breaking the bank, get lots of bang for your buck!

  10. can you clarify about the JRJR piece, was that through Spencer Beck/theartistschoice.com or some facebook group?
  11. About seven years ago I attended a construction industry convention (CONEXPO-CON/AGG) in Las Vegas where the Toshiba booth had an artist doing caricatures. Although there’s a good chance the artist has nothing to do with comics I would still like to identify the artist if possible.
  12. someone started a new similar thread but I'll add here too, I love getting sketches/remarques in books. I have over 50 in a gallery on CAF: https://www.comicartfans.com/galleryroom.asp?gsub=35058 Some favorites are by Mark Texeira, Mark Schultz, and Darwyn Cooke:

  14. Those are all the Sunday strip prelims that I mentioned in my post, I’m interested in dailys.
  15. Heritage auctions has sold thousands of Garfield daily strip prelim art pieces in the past year in giant lots (by year) but with the exception of a few Sunday strip prelims I haven’t see any trickle into the secondary market. If anyone reading this picked up any of these big lots and would be willing to sell or trade a few daily’s please let me know.
  16. there was also a Superman Spiderman crossover story from the Marvel Treasury Edition #28.
  17. Care to expand on this comment? What is the concern with that site? Are they known for quality problems?
  18. There are some fantastic pieces posted in this thread! I was introduced to RGK via the great IDW Father of Heroic Fantasy book which made me want more Krenkel so I picked up The Art of Roy G. Krenkel, Cities and Scenes, and some issues of Illustration Magazine. What other modern artists can evoke a similar feel in their work to Krenkel? I think these Tim Vigil illustrations have a Krenkel vibe:
