  1. Didn't have a whole lot of time at the show yesterday, but got to spend about 2 hours walking the floor. Picked up 2 peps I needed (sorry for the scanner glare). Saw some very cool high grade Archie and MLJ floating around. Here's one of my faves .... Also, not sure if anyone needs one, but Ted from Super World was selling an Archie 4 for his friend. I have a nice copy already but if I didn't I'd have grabbed it. Think he wanted 7k, but super negotiable.
  2. Had to pick this up ... seller was willing to come down off the actual price, not the eBay inflated one, and well ... it was a hole that needed to be filled. Not to mention, that's a stellar Veronica!
  3. I sent this email to Matt Nelson this morning... Dear Jackpot #4, How are you? Are you healing ok? I feel like it's been ages since I held you and I miss you so much. A lot has happened since January. I skied Whistler, I went to the Canaries for a press event, Virginia and I threw another big party to celebrate our wedding in March, we honeymoon'd in Sonoma in May, and we've been trying to take as many weekends in Maine as possible. I've also been traveling extensively for work -- and clearly have little free time. ) Puppy is much bigger now, and I know she will be happy to see you again. She misses your smell and, well, so do I. Anyway, I know that Kenny and Matt have been taking good care of you, but I am anxious to see you again. You will be coming home to many new friends … I've adopted roughly 400 more GA books since you left, but don't worry, I have a special and secure place saved just for you! Till we meet again! Love and Kisses, Andrew
  4. I didn't even see that one. I have a few issues but not that one. The second I saw it was a Hitler cover, I figured it was a tough one to get. As if Jolly Jingles issues aren't hard enough to find as it is. Jolly Jingles 12 Yeah all I ever see is 15 and sometimes16, which I have along with all the others and all the Jackpot books. I was finally hoping to put this run to bed. I should have just put something insane in like $500. Was just pissed at myself.
  5. F%@$%@$^#!!! I really thought I was about to fill a long time hole, and since I can only imagine that one of you got it, I am choosing to post my bi%ch session here. I have been on the hunt for that Jolly Jingles 12 for 20+ years! I really thought $110 was gonna take it - particularly after the seller listed the publisher as MLT and it sat at 20 bucks for the entire auction. Actively seeking this issue if anyone else had a dupe! Enjoy it, whoever you are!
  6. Here it is, it the flesh ... or pulp. Now if someone could just teach me how to get a good scan or pic of a slab that'd be awesome. With no flash, I get reflection and it's dark. With a flash I get a glare spot. With a scan, and I have a killer scanner, I always feels like it gets the case real well but the book looks like it's fuzzy and in the background. Not that I guess I really care, but it's nice for showing things on the forums.
  7. Just got the shipping notice for my Archie 2 from CGC. I wasn't sure what to expect due to the detached cover, so I logged in to check. Such a great looking copy, I suppose it could be worse. I'll be happy to have it back in my collection where it belongs.
  8. Yeah, I did get it a year ago off eBay. Did not see it the first time you're referencing but when I did see it I knew I wanted it. Just such a great cover!
  9. Sadly, it's here in the forums too... I mean, how many Archie threads are there aside from this one, and a few more scattered around the various sections. Seems like 2 or 3 members started most of them.
  10. Archie gets the same amount of respect from Overstreet that it gets from the comic community as a whole - which I agree is little at best. I walked into a comic store in NH a few weeks ago, a huge shop, and asked if they had any Archie comics. I was told that there maybe a few in the box in the back marked "KIDS COMICS". Then the owner proceeded to tell he was planning to stop carrying them altogether. At the Boston con I could not believe how few Archie books were available. Most dealers either said they didn't have any or didn't bring them to the show because they had to pick and choose and wanted to bring what would 'move'. I realize these are extreme examples but as an Archie collector for 30+ years it pisses me off. Believe me, I'd like nothing more than to see the value of my collection reach the prices that a select few are asking on eBay, but listing an Archie #282 for $400+ is not helping the cause.
  11. I'm just joking around ... it's my way of dealing with frustration over those who constantly list and re-list the "Not-For-Sale For Sale" comics like this ... Archie 33 I think appalling, and it's only getting worse. Here's one of my faves! Hahaha
  12. Yes, it should! this is next on my "to track down" list Here, you can have mine. Now, let's see ... VG/FN copy guides for $52 ... now let's account for the other highly-accurate price guide -- eBay ... multiply by 16, carry the 2, add imaginary value for future appreciation (cause you know we're selling a business here), and ... $12,000! Yours if you want it, let me know. Sorry I'm really having trouble brushing off these eBay vultures. I'll keep an eye out for a copy for you!
  13. That's totally how you do it It's getting so silly now. You know who, among a growing contingent of others, is moving his $100 slabbed books from the last asking price of $1,000 to $2,400. Who knows, maybe he read the article on Vince Z and decided it was time to re-price them all. Maybe I have this all wrong ... maybe we should all multiply by 10-20 and set the market. Anyone interested in my copy of Archie #368, only $17,500 dollars? I'll throw in a Super-Rare-Scare-Impossible-to-Find copy of Betty and Me #197. Ok, rant's over. Oh look at my pretty Pep 10.
  14. For me, this cover always stands out as a favorite! And because I am incapable of scanning a slab (tips welcome), here's another look. I also really love the golf cover on Archie 12, but don't have time to pull it right now.
  15. First, this is awesome -- so let's just get that out of the way. That said, I do have a question about storing slabs the way you have yours along the top? Do you go spine up? Spine down? Do you worry about stress on the book, or micro chamber paper slipping?
  16. And I grabbed this too on a BIN from Harley.
  17. I do dig the new stuff, but love the classics. Here's one recent acquisition ... lower spine is rough and book shows age, but it's a great filler, and I love the cover!
  18. Just picked this puppy up on ebay the other day (6.0-6.5). Page edges are tanning, but for the most part the pages are nice and creamy inside. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on the Metro copy here for $320, but got this one at a great price. Aside for the name on the cover, I do think this one presents a bit better, but you be the judge I am clearly bias. I know metro claims off-white pages, but for nearly $200 less, I'm pumped.
  19. Sweet! Did you pick that up in Chicago! Yessir! LOVE THIS COVER! Always have. I could stare at the covers of Pep 41-49 all day long! Nice purchase Steve!
  20. First FPJ ... a long overdue ! As a major Archie collector of both comics and paraphernalia I just love seeing this! I wish I had known about this thread before I started my GA Storage Thread Thread in the Gold Comics forum! There are some awesome setups in here! all around!
  21. Yeah I love that one, but this one ain't too shabby either!
