  1. Is this in your preferred order Steve?
  2. You're right, 17 is a solid cover. I suppose 19 is too and I have always liked 20 ... but 14-16 and 18 have never been my favorites. Actually if I am being really honest I don't love the cover of 2 or 9 either. I expect that many will disagree, but in my opinion (yeah, I still write that out) Archie 8 is the best early Archie cover. 1 is a classic that you have to love (and I do), and I enjoy 3, 4 and 6 (though the multiple jugheads are odd); 7, 11 and 13 are about even in my book, 10 is weird but interesting, and I've always really been drawn to 12 but that's cause it was the first 10c Archie I ever bought. Oh and I left out 5 ... never really got the whole halloween theme thing.
  3. That's why I haven't said what they were yet. Can't show pics before they arrive.
  4. What a weekend. Two incredible scores in a row Saturday and Today! Need to adjust one of my numbers once the books officially arrive. The other one is just outside our current focus.
  5. I think we should add numbers 11, 12 and 13. All had great covers, we all have them to share, and they're so much better than 14, 15 and so on.
  6. In position watching 2 and 6 close. Anyone going for it?
  7. Gotta love this … here is the issue with starting an auction at .99 cents on eBay. There are actually people out there who bid NINETY-NINE CENTS! While I haven't sold more than a handful of comics in my life, I have purchased thousands, and am well versed in the ways of the Bay. I know that a token first bid and then a bunch of watchers till the end is common -- and I'm cool with that. One can only hope that, when the book is worth it, it reaches an acceptable price. But it does make me laugh to see that a second bid has been placed revealing the commitment of bidder #1. Blue Ribbon #5
  8. So this happened last night. It was at $280 and I was in need of an upgrade. Getting it for $290 ($356 with BP and shipping) was a pleasant surprise. I'll be eBaying my under copy. On a related note, I was scanning around HA last night as auctions were ending to see if there was anything else I wanted and I never realized before how little information they really provide on a comic. If it's slabbed I suppose you have what you need, but for their raw stuff it's a cover and an approx. grade. No page quality, no reference to any work done (pro or amateur). I've bought many books from them over the years, but cannot recall if it's always been this bad.
  9. 10 % of my last submission had wrong labels That's incredible disappointing. This is basic quality control. If something as simple as labels are slipping through unchecked what does that mean for grade confirmation? PS. I think it's embarrassing for SC too. Has their posting become so formulaic that they don't even look anymore?
  10. No, I mean, why is it a pep 76 for auction when it's clearly a pep 74. And why has no one made mention of it in the auction? Not to mention it's kind of embarrassing for CGC.
  11. Everybody seems to be ignoring this one very confusing auction, including sparkle city comics. Can somebody tell me what the deal is here? Pep 74? 76?
  12. On an unrelated note, Archie 1 on HA is bringing the big bucks again! 13k with the live auction still to come for a taped up 2.0. Sorry but I just think that's awesome. I wanna have my raw unrestored copy slabbed just to know for sure. I'll keep my restored one raw. I look forward to the day that my $200 purchase s selling for 100x!
  13. Question for the group … and a little . Is is just me or does PGX instantly remove credibility from an auction. Here is an Archie 50 on ebay. Archie 50 (6.5) Seller has great feedback, book is high priced but there is an offer tab, and if this was CGC'd it'd be gone by now, but … no, it's a SPOONing (did that myself) PGX. Instantly all I can think is 'what is wrong with the book that the owner sent it to PGX to be slabbed?' Amateur resto? Detached cover? Etc., and of course I have ZERO faith that the book is a 6.5. I'm guessing a 5.0 at best, and a purple label with CGC. Any thoughts?
  14. Watched a sparkle city auction for a Archie number 10 end on eBay the other night. It went pretty cheap ... $100-ish. I know it wasn't a beautiful book but had it been an earlier issue, based on what we've seen lately, it would've gone for many multiples of guide. It seems that there's a huge price shift from Archie 1-4 to Archie 6-10.
  15. Beautiful! Nice copy of a hard to find in good condition book! Love the Hitler and Tojo appearance. Question for you, and I realize this shows my lack of understanding but I assure you that's just the tip of it haha … Anyway, I have about a dozen books that were sold to me as either Crippen or Ohio copies. The Crippen all came with certs. The Ohio's did not. Is there some other way to verify … a telltale sign?
  16. Cool thread... I'll play: Have a coverless Archie 8 and 11, and Zip 37. I also have the cover for an Archie 7.
  17. I honestly don't know Todd. Sometimes I think I really have grading down, and other times I'm just way off. I have to believe it would get at least 7.0-7.5 and I'd hope for higher, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it came back as a 6.5 cause that's been my luck with CGC. Regarding who would get the coverless 7 ... , That's a good question. I'd like to think that I'm big enough to let it go for a fair price. I hope someone would do the same for me with an Archie 8 cover. What does this group think has more value, the cover, or coverless insides? I think your estimate 7.0-7.5 would be about right. My copy (p 18) is a cracked 6.0. Yours should definitely come out higher. Do you really think so? Your copy is so perfectly centered, I'm just not sure how the bindery defect plays into the grading.
  18. Some solid auction action starting to surface that might be of interest to our group. There's an Archie #2 and #6 on the block at CC with a mid-feb start, and #1, #3 (a real nice copy), #4 and #50 on HA with a end of Jan start! At first I thought Quick finally got sick of trying to quadruple the price of his Archie 4 on eBay, but it turns out it's a totally different book. Can't wait to watch the action!

  20. Alllllllrighty then! Let's get this long overdue show on the road. Really thought I'd get these books up this weekend, but the wife wanted to bug out of town and seeing as how she's 17-weeks into cooking baby Golden, I'm pretty much letting her call the shots. To the books. Archie 5. If you forget about the top corner for a second it's a great copy. Bit of a spine roll but firmly attached at the staple. Pages are Cream. Obviously the corners have seen better days, but as hard as it is to see that top right, the piece missing only affects the cover and first two pages, doesn't touch the story panels, and then the corner issue gets much better from there. Book is complete. NO idea how something like this happens, but she's all mine. Archie 6. Cover is detached, has some tears and shows wear. It also suffers from some moisture damage, not sure if water or humidity. Could use a good pressing. Best part of this book though is the guts. I have rarely seen whiter pages on a comic of this age! Book is complete. Archie 7 (copy 1). Cover is detached, but in great shape. Pages are OW/W. Book is complete. Archie 7 (copy 2). Another complete copy with a detached cover. Spine is rough, cover has tears and other wear, but still eye candy in my book. Pages are cream. Archie 7 (copy 3). Just a cover, no guts. Has visible issues but I look forward to stuffing it with a coverless copy. (Not sure if you wanna count this Gadzukes, just sharing) Archie 8. Complete, Attached, Off-White Pages, Cover has some corner wear and other minor issues. This is such a great cover, I love this book, and I'm very happy with this copy. I do have an awesome coverless copy too, but I did not scan it. Archie 9. Don't let the first glance on this book fool you, it's a high grade copy. Not sure what grade per se, but the cover is in amazing shape, the insides are OW/W and complete. The cover is attached at the staple, and that is not a spine roll, that is a printing defect, the books is square and flat! Archie 10. The last of my promised scans. This book looks like it was once in a two ring binder. There is a small hole at the top and bottom of the spine that goes through from cover to cover. Pages are Tan/Cream, cover is attached, missing some pieces as you can see, book is complete. PS. I was gonna buy my 5th copy of Archie 11 last night on eBay. Had some back and forth with the seller but decided I could find a better use for the money. A few hours later it sold … hope it was to one of you!
  21. That's awesome! Never even been to that site. Can you still access a pic of the book?
