  1. Good point. But there are quite a few that are very close to one another, so at this early stage of the thread I'm going to opt for ones that haven't been favorited by others. If it was a clear cut top 5 book, I would disregard the fact that others had it in their top 5 as well
  2. Fantastic books, everybody. Great thread. I'm having a harder time than I thought I would. But I'd better hurry, I don't want to post any books people have already posted (so that takes All Star 3, AMF 2/5 out of the running).
  3. This is going to take some thinking, but this is a definite:
  4. it would have to be the five most valuable (i guess?), i have some faves that wouldn't crack the top 20 dollar-wise.
  5. yes, as rick says, i was circumstances on the old board (trying to get the name and post count back). i posted my centaurs when i first joined (2013?). the detective was costing me $3,700 if I recall correctly.
  6. what happened with that one? the one that really burns me: in 1983 or 1984 i was waiting for an insurance settlement for a lost shipment of golden age. i decided to take the entire amount of money and spend it on one book (since i was trading the lost golden age for one book). i found an unrestored detective 27 in VF from a dealer who shall remain nameless. he held it for me for however many months it took for the shipping company to cut me the check. i eventually got the check, mailed him the money, he sends me the book. absolutely beautiful. looked at least 9.0. but...had some restoration. it was supposed to be completely unrestored. what disappointment. in hindsight i should have kept it (it WAS a tec 27). but at the time, for the money, it needed to be what was promised.
  7. i think we initially thought it might have had a dot of glue from a previous owner, but determined it didn't.
  8. mine's about a 5.5. never thought about getting over a half mil for it.
  9. was just able to pick up a quartet of REH Conan WT pulps i needed recently.
  10. Shuffling around some old comics today. Came across a favorite. Submariner 1 ad (and Subby story) by Everett, Torch by Burgos, Schomburg bondage cover, Vision by Simon & Kirby, Angel by Gustavson.
  11. he got a ton of my gold. i was insured and got full payment, but i'd rather have my books.
  12. Marvel Comics 1 is a top 5 book in my heart
  13. love it. brings back memories. my first timely (and first golden age) purchase.
  14. as i said, over 40+ years of buying comics (30+ that i'd be paying attention), i've never owned any of the larger size issues and never saw a copy of #6 in person.
  15. 6 is tough. Maybe third toughest behind 3&2/4 thanks. i figured it would be around there.
  16. i love that! jon, how rare is the #6 compared to #1-5? i think i've seen all of those at one time or another, but never #6.
  17. i'm not actively collecting (buying, accumulating) centaurs, but if i happen upon a book that i've never even seen a copy of in person, combined with the fact that i've never owned any of the larger sized issues, i gotta pick it up.
