  1. Killer 3.0! - give me a detached cover any day if it looks like that and I can get it for a 3.0 price! Thanks brother!!! yeah me too!! I think I may have paid more than 3.0 price for it. Hard to tell though its just a tough book and I know I wasn't the only one chasing it. Very happy to lock it down it brings a smile to my face every time I see it!!
  2. Sexy cover = yay Sexy cover on superhero book aimed at 10-year-old kids = insane Hope this helps. I just reexamined the books I posted and 90% of them have some sort of bondage in one way or another...It was a great way for the reader to be drawn in toward the book. "how are they gonna get out of this pickle?!!" so to speak. The fact that they were aimed at kids is a little spooky though but when read 10 cent plague they were specific that they were aimed at young adults as well. The funny animal stuff was there for the kids. Someone had mentioned earlier about classic covers. I would love to see someone put a list together of books that are deemed, "classic" by either Overstreet and/or CGC and see what percentage of those contained bondage of some sort on its cover. Either way I like it...draws me in...as was intended...maybe I need to see a shrink
  3. Wow GREAT thread J...sorry worked last night so just catching up...my opinion is SOOOOO similar to yours its uncanny really!! I really dig Schomburg but owning a few of his finest examples is good enough for me at this point in time. I won't be chasing down a Timely Cap run anytime soon although I can appreciate those that do. If I am buying GA patriotic look no further than those MLJs. Ive put together some neat ones so far but there are so many more to go. The Zip Run is stunning in both cover and interior artwork as well as the Peps. The splashes on some these are the best ever done and while Cap does have some great splashes I feel like the MLJs have more than the Timely's in general. That could be because the MLJs have fallen into public domain and I can view them regularly while there are many many Timely books I have never seen the interiors too but I guess I can't judge with my eye what I can't see. DC has such a large lineup with so many great books many of which I like have flown the coop and are now out of reach. If I were to focus on DC it would strictly be those large logo covers. They just scream GA to me. As far as Kirby I do find books like Adventure 79 to be very cool so I can't say I don't dig all his work there are just others I like more. I do really like the Adventure Run in general while it kept its big bold title image at least. Once they switch it over they lose me. All-American has 61 and a few others but thats about it. I like the Early Action books and the pre Robin Tecs but thats about it. Never really found the Batman and Superman run all that intriguing cover wise albeit a few odds and ends cherry picked out of em'. While I appreciate pre code horror its just not my focus. I mean we all have to limit our sites in some way don't we. If I do see horror and it has a hero on the cover thats another story all together. These few books would probably be my favorite of all GA books in general but they are very few and far between. I dig Fine and his work. Very easy to appreciate him and very hard to argue his brilliance. Also a big fan of Jim Mooney, B. Fuji, and Romana Patenaude as some have probably heard Off beat publishers like Ace and Fox have too many treasures to even fathom. While the breadth of their work isn't as large its definitely just as awesome. Something about those Fox books in their simplicity, rarity, color palette scheme, and overall Coolness factor just works. It just does, at least for me. I guess I could go on and on about what I like and prefer but on to the actual structure of the book itself. I like mine low to mid grade and prefer unrestored ultimately...yes even if lower grade. That being said I have opened up and purchased a few slightly restored books lately and am becoming more familiarized with the process. I just want to be able to know what happened to the book. A tear seal on a label used to bother me...well the boldly colored purpleness of the label bothered me more than the actual resto I think just to be honest it was always like a sore thumb to me. Then a cracked a few and saw what was happening and it no longer bothers me as much. Some think like RJ that it is crazy to search out low grade unmolested books and that is why we are all entitled to our own opinions and preferences. I too would rather have a nicely presenting 1.5 with a detached cover or even a piece missing out of the back than an 8.0 book with dulled colors but amazing structural soundness or even a 9.6 for that matter where it has so much resto I can't tell where the real book ends and the remade part begins. These new books that are hitting the market with overly extensive resto bother me to my core and would never even consider owning one. BUT thats just me and once again why we are all entitled to our own opinion and preference. Here are a few examples of books and how I prefer them...lower grade, unrestored, and nicely presenting... I also own quite a few 1.0/1.5/1.8/and 2.0s and given the chance to upgrade them to a 3.0 like the ones above I would but I like these as well. Brittle pages do bug me but the slightly brittle designation not as much. I know a bunch of people shy away from these books and that makes me happy to be honest...more for me These don't present quite as nicely but they look LOVED and I love that.... And lastly here an example of a book that I AM JUST HAPPY TO HAVE A COPY OF that a lot of people wouldn't touch with a 10 ft pole and I understand that. It has brittle pages. Honestly with this book I was chasing the cover image...thats pretty much it and thats me being honest. I would LOVE to upgrade it someday but it just NEVER comes up for auction. Some would rather not own a copy than own this copy and like I said, good, that just means less competition!! Ok I think thats probably enough for now...Im open to field any questions haha!! Great thread P5 its always interesting to see what people prefer and don't prefer. All in all if you love it, are proud to own it, share it, and it puts a smile on your face in the end thats what really matters right? These are collectables after all. They are not life or death. They are simply here to enjoy and entertain our feeble minds
  4. On this one he's thinking "gee, a flaming skull furnace over in the corner would really tie the room together..." then for the 22 he says, "screw the decor, I'll just become the furnace to save space!!" Awesome pairing W!!! I'm trying in my head to count the different copies of 22 I've seen that I know exist and I still haven't surpassed 7 or so
  5. Storms? dudes pretty cool too from what I hear but no...sweet as in heart...possibly made of Gold(en age comic books)
  6. Thanks again bro. I owe you one. Simply being the gentleman who started this thread is payment enough for me!!! I think I've went through it 20 times haha!!! Neatest stuff on the boards IMO!!
  7. It's crazy how tough this book is. GPA has only two reported sales -- a 4.5 that sold for $259 in 2003, and a 5.0 that sold for $1236 in 2013. Even that 5.0 seems cheap now. Other than my two incomplete parts, I've literally never seen a single copy for sale. As a footnote, I've always thought Weird Comics #20 was equally tough, but surprisingly quite a few copies have turned up in the last few years once the price exploded. And you still haven't seen another copy that's for sale! So you were the lucky person that snagged this one from the sweetest boardie out there??!!!!!!! Well done my friend well done!!!!!! I told her that's right up there with the single coolest copies of any comic book that has ever come off the press!!! And yes P5 these two books if they ever came to market would be Super fun to watch at least with the trends they seem to be on right now. Heck even the brittle 2.0 Weird 20 raked in like $1800 or something. If you have low grade copies of either of these books now is the time to sell!!!! and to me preferably
  8. Absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! Looks like a match made in heaven brother!! Really neat when the quest ends with something as cool and rare as this. Cover image is super clean too man you just can't beat it. The vows couldn't have been performed by a nicer guy!! HUGE congrats dude!!
  9. some VERY neat books being posted as usual!! great stuff gang and congrats on the acquisitions
  10. I'm two episodes in...digging the overall soundtrack as well. Definitely intriguing
  11. What a bunch of SWEEEEEET books this thread is chalk full of awesomeness!!!
  12. Attaboy Vern! I just love me some MF 54 and that is an exceptional example. Congrats on two very nice pickups!!
  13. Way to go Gino!! What a killer funny book!! I'd be very proud of that one if it was in my collection. Thanks brother!!!
  14. Wow! Great book! Congratulations. WOW!!! Been on the want list ever since I started collecting GA books!! Missed out on a copy that I didn't see until the auction was over but haven't seen another in my range yet!! This is a stunning copy Huge congrats on one of the All-Timers!!
  15. ABSOLUTELY Love it!!! Need it!!! Been outbid on it the last 2 times I've seen it!! Great copy buddy!!!
  16. Beauty!! Glad to see when I finally get around to submitting mine (pile of books on deck, have to stop buying first though) it's got a classic cover designation. Thanks for posting here. Hope this thread eventually gets the kind of enthusiasm as other publisher threads with multiple posts and comments Oh, and here's mine: GREAT BOOKS GENTS!! Rudy!!! Rudy!!! Rudy!!!
  17. Is it just me or does that seem like an overly aggressive price on the 'Tec 29? That appears to be more in the price range of a 'Tec 31 if we are using Gator's Price Per Point (PPP) measuring gauge. Have always felt this cover has been relatively underappreciated as compared to the 'Tec 31 cover, but it would still be interesting to see what this book would go for. it's priced at $17k pp and no doubt influenced by the $30k sale of the 1.5 copy that recently sold on CC. Tec 31s are way over $20k+ pp these days. The last Tec31 @ 1.0 sold for $43505 on CC so well over $40k pp! BTW...i have a Tec31 @ 1.0 which I'm more than likely going to sell Tec 31 is not yet 40k a point. Entry level books perform at different pace All about that eye appeal and pq of course. Not All 1.0s are created equal. I should know I have a whole slew of em'
  18. Thanks Minh!! and WOW RM your wife's got quite the eye!!! That's awesome I don't ever reckon seein' that one before!! Very cool
  19. That's such a great book and cover. I have only have one Fox and it is a Weird #7 which I'm happy to have picked up and read at a WonderCon up in San Francisco a number of years ago. The cover was disclosed as being cleaned but it sure makes the colors pop. I'd been thinking of selling this baby but every time I do something stops me! You CAN'T sell because you're still waitin on that free bottle of Kooba!!! Awesome book Minh!!!!
  20. Wow!! Beautiful copy of a tough book. Congrats. Great book, I'm certain a few of us fox fans were bidding on it, wish I had bid more. Beautiful book!! and WTTBs!!
  21. I would be too Greg, that is one cool and unusual book! Haha!! Thanks RM i couldn't find a lower grade so this one had to do and GREAT BOOK Greg!!!! I want one!!!!!
  22. Congrats Gino-that is a sweet book! The colors on the cover are a lot stronger that on other copies I've seen in higher grades. It's sharper than usual for an MLJ cover too. Great acquisition. Thanks Ingels!!! It's my iPhone pics though. The Blues are not nearly as navy looking in person for some reason no matter which angle I held the book the Blues kept showing up darker it may have been the time of day I took em and my scanner just slaughters slabs haha!!. it's more of a lighter sky blue. Don't get me wrong though the colors are very nice I like it a TON!! and thanks for the kind words it's a sharp copy!!! A couple dings to the spine/corners and a few small stains and this book might be sitting in a couple point higher slab. Then again if that were case though it wouldn't fit very well into my beater collection and I probably wouldn't have been able to afford it
  23. Whoa, major score Gino! Normally I would keep a distance from a slightly brittle book, but in this case I'd make an exception! Thanks brother!!!! I'm tickled pink with it!!!
  24. Dang Gino!!! Awsome score. You must rob banks. This is in my "top ten" wants. Never owned a copy. Maybe someday... Thanks Dudes!!!! There's one on the Bay right now if you want to knock it off the list sooner than later my friend
