Soon, you'll just have to get their social security number and issue them a 1099 at the end of the year...

That's funny. Can't imagine giving my social security number to an individual I don't know. Also don't know how you could make sure it wasn't a number a person just made up out of thin air. I handle a lot of installment contracts on a daily basis. We have privacy notices and other info we have to have signed whenever a customer makes a purchase of we pull credit.

So will comic shops now hand you a 1099 when you sell to them ?

At times, I've had collections with as many as 20,000 comics in them. Nowhere near that now but its hard to imagine proving what was paid for each book.  Maybe this is just a tactic to get individuals off of sites like ebay and leave it to the businesses.

  2. This will certainly change the hobby for better or for worse. I spent $2500, $1500, and $1100 cash on 3 small collections this month. How do I account for that expense ? The last guy I bought from didn't even have access to the the internet at home. Found him through a friend. Said he didn't have a bank account. I prefer to pay with paypal but none of these guys had it. All were older. So what's the best way to cover yourself in this instance ?

What's up on the Yes and No side? – Ideal Makers

I would not sell an AF #15 for a TNMT 9.6 #1 - first print. I have a tremendous amount of sentiment toward AF #15; Spider-Man is my favorite character. As for TMNT, I never read the comics, I never watched the TV show, and I never watched the movies. I have no attachment to TMNT, regardless if it's a good investment.

Do I like the books I buy to be good investments? Sure. But it is more important to me to have books in my collection that I like.

    My sentiments exactly. 👍🏻

Hey Tom, good to see you still here too. I agree that Jupiter's Legacy should (and probably will) be more in the vein of The Boys. I’ve enjoyed WandaVision too, and they definitely could have gone darker; but it’s Disney. I wonder to what degree the success of The Boys will influence other comic-based shows to go over the top or at least stay true to the source material? Early signs are Invincible will; hopefully JL will too.

It’s hard not to be excited about all of those shows. WandaVision is the first show, in a long time, that I look forward to seeing and will drop everything ( short of the wife 😊 ) to watch. Its the best thing I’ve seen from Marvel for quite some time.

Next on my wishlist are The Authority/Stormwatch and Planetary...yes the odds are long but so much they could do with those stories.  In the meantime, I’m thrilled with what we’re getting right now. ✌️

That's a great story! Thanks for sharing it. The string on the stacks freaked me out a little. But you are going to get them all graded?

Graded 41 of the 49. There were 3 that were absolutely destroyed and 5 that I think are between 8.0 to 8.5. I’ll let you know how it turns out but it’s going to be a while. I didn’t fast track anything.

    Wow! What's the story here?

Threw an ad up on Facebook and a guy says he has Avengers Annual #10 for sale. Sends a pic showing just the top book with a string wrapped around it. The comic was obviously bent at the edges and I was getting ready to thank him and tell him I wasn’t interested when as he sent the side view picture of all of them.

His dad owned a comic shop/video store. He sold everything except this one box which he simply forgot about it. It had these, a Power Pack stack, and a Web of Spidey Annual #2 stack. He said his dad didn’t save this particular book on purpose, he just missed the box when he closed down.

I believe that better than 75% of them are at least 9.4 with maybe 12-15 in the 9.6 range. With a lot of luck, maybe I’ll get a gift 9.8 but I doubt it. That’s the story.😊

Great pick up Tom. Hope CGC treats you right

    Thanks Chuck 😊

I hope you and yours have been well. All’s well here except the amount of time available outside of work. I keep getting surprised every day by the crazy amount of action going on in the comics world. Then again, cars, houses, and stocks are in the same pattern. Such is life hahahaha

Jupiter's Legacy trailer coming soon? :wishluck:

Hello there buddy 👋  Glad to see that you’re still here 😊

Super happy to hear about this one. I still think issue #3 is one of the most mind bending comics ever. I’d rate it up there with some of the Miracleman and The Authority books. Love the series and can’t wait for the show. Wandavision has been a blast but I’m more of a “The Boys” type of guy. Ennis, Millar, Morrison, Moore, and especially Ellis are right up my alley.

People who make more staying home don't make much to begin with. It's not much of a windfall but if it keeps them home, it keeps the virus from spreading too quickly. States that opened their non-essential businesses too early are paying the consequences for that now. But giving everybody some money keeps the things going that are still able to operate. Without that aid, everything will stop and the recovery will be much more difficult for everybody.

It’s all relative. People I’m talking about have netted $1150 a week for 3 months. That’s $14,950 plus $1200 stimulus. The cost of living is super inexpensive here. You can rent a nice house or townhouse for $700 a month or so. Then consider that the majority of these people around here have 2 income households. It ain’t rich but it’s a lot for staying home. 😊

  10. Still happy that I hung onto some UF#4. Sad that I sold a lot more than I kept in the old collection. Down to 8 copies.

Wouldn’t  blame anyone for selling right now. Big profits to be had at the moment. Won’t be selling any of my bunch.

Had this as my top pick in my spec thread last year and @Aweandlorder and I have been on this title a Loooooong time. I remember buying these in polybags 10 for $17.99 maybe 7-8 years ago. Wish we could go back in time.

Watching people react to this book makes me think it’ll be even bigger than originally expected. Is he this generation’s Spidey ? Maybe. If he is, he’ll be bigger than Venom, or Harley, or, or....Spider-man is a BIG deal.

If you don’t have a ton of these, holding seems the better option. If you have 15-50 of them or you need the money, by all means, sell, sell, sell.

Keep an eye on Vengeance #1 too. It’s been steadily solid but the potential of every aspect of this character could make America Chavez the NBT

  11. Young Avengers #1 is on the move again. It goes up and sells lots of copies and it goes down and sells lots of copies.  After the Kate Bishop/Hawkeye show was announced, its back up around $250. Someone dumped a bunch of these in 9.8 in the last month or two. It stunted the growth of the book temporarily.

Does anyone here think any character who appeared in this book, other than Hawkeye,  has potential for growth or are they never gonna be’s ? Will the Young Avengers appear in the MCU ?

    Spoiler

I’m pretty surprised that people aren’t  losing their minds over this issue. Maybe people accept it because Rick was older but he wasn’t old. He got a little preachy like a politician in the end. Certainly didn’t reflect who he was the majority of the story.

I’ve seen ads for future issues. I feel like if any book ever needed a Volume #2, this is it. The Walking Dead is Rick’s story in my mind. They need a new hero. No one left to be that unless they introduce a new player. ☹️
