  1. Hard to really tell from a single picture like this but if this book is in high grade your best bet is sending it in for grading. The last 9.8 sold for $4500 but that was back in Mar 2020 at the start of the pandemic… prices on all books are much higher now than they were then. There’s another area on the boards with grading help called can you spare a grade, you can post there to get a better idea of grade - they’ll require better pictures though. If you just need/want quick cash selling raw is always an option too,

So, if I'm a seller right now, I should go with HA?  I'd have to do the math to see how it would come out after the buyers and sellers premium.

Yeah, the prices I’m talking about as the buyer include the buyer’s premium. So I’m not sure the seller is actually getting a bigger number before buyer’s premium compared to CL or CC. Im sure there are cases where it makes sense and cases where it doesn’t. If I for example stumbled across a high grade ‘Tec 27 the clientele and live floor auction nature of HA probably makes a lot of sense. Selling a copy of New Mutants 98? Probably not. Also I’ve never sold on HA personally but have been told by those who do the seller fee is negotiable - so that’s a thing.

    no they are different graders

Which makes a lot of sense... seems like a different skill set and experience required. Personally think the TAT's can be attributed mostly to a bunch of book that used to be worth 50-100 and not worth the cost of the grading fees now selling for 300 minimum. A lot more books in people's collection "worth" slabbing to people.

The main books I was bidding on in yesterday's Heritage Auction all went for new record prices. Too bad, was really hoping  it had died down a bit. It looked like it might have been the case. Anyways, this might just be heritage though.

Yeah I don’t even bother with heritage right now… books consistently going for 20+% over prices of same books on other auction sites. Especially while the promise collection is running, seems like a lot of deep pockets just throwing in bids on random other books in between promise collection auctions.

When I had  book lingering I took a screen shot of turn around times just to look later and see how much they would improve with all the additional hiring, "Which they did not have to do"

    Turnaround Times Comparison

    Tier                               6-4                  6-27

    Modern                         82 Days          94 Days

    Economy                      113 Days        131 Days

    Standard                       51 Days          74 Days

    Express                         11 Days          15 Days

Walk Through                3 Days            3 Days

    Reholder                        52 Days          76 Days

Magazine time are even crazier… up to 160 days for modern. Thoughts and prayers to anyone sending in an early Turtles book for grading and pressing with CCS/CGC the total is 276 business days + another 2 months for them to open and shipping times. You’re looking at like September of 2022 at best.

  6. Very early on in my collecting of SA days I bought an ASM 2 that was sold as a VG copy thru eBay raw and I didn’t know as much as I do now - like counting pages particularly when dealing with SA. Anyways took it to a con, had Stan sign it and got it CGC witnessed. Came back as a 0.5 with an ad page missing. Initially was pretty upset but then figured I wasn’t selling it anyways so it is what it is. I still have the book roughly 15 years after I bought it. Even paying a VG price 15 years ago, I could sell it today for a decent profit as a 0.5 CGC SS, but that’s less of a point as just learning a valuable lesson in general - count pages.

I still don’t get why people are speculating on skaar when he probably won’t be introduced for a few years if ever.   It’s just insane that people are speculating on 2nd tier characters when marvel still has plenty of 1st tier characters to introduce in order to get to the other characters.  And this will probably take years to get to.  In the year till that happens, don’t people realize if we go into a recession, most of those books will be up for sale flooding the market and be easier to get at a cheaper price while waiting for the character to eventually appear in a movie or show?

Part of that is many are priced out of 1st appearance of said 1st tier characters but can afford a 1st of Skaar. I’m sure most would prefer an X-Men 1 or FF 1 if they could get it for the prince of What if Planet Hulk. I don’t recommend it for the reasons you mentioned, probably won’t be introduced for awhile if ever.

Sometimes I think people just don't care.  They enjoy throwing money into the trash.  It's an addiction.

It’s fine if you got the money to blow and you want to do it, only a problem when you’re choosing a Web of Spider-Man 1 variant over eating this month. But I honestly feel most people paying these prices for a book like that are closer to the latter rather than the former. Hope I’m wrong, for their sake…

They will do trades eventually everyone does.

Of course they will, them saying they don’t do trades is just another form of their FOMO marketing scheme taken to the extreme. Just like the ending of the company. Got to say it is effective on a lot of people…

Gotcha.  I didn't know about that.  I just checked both of mine thru that and they're both delivered.

If your delivery conf # shows "delivered" thru the USPS site, but not thru the CGC site..... then yes, that would cause anxiety.

    Yup.

  11. 27 minutes ago, gadzukes said:

Mine are stated as "delivered" by my USPS confirmation #, not by anything that CGC has written anywhere.

Has your submission not been confirmed by USPS or FedEx or whatever shipper you used?

Yes, but if you go to the My Submissions page and below the submission look up is a spot called confirm package delivery where you can enter in your tracking number. If CGC scanned your package when they took possession of it it should show up. If they didn’t (like mine) then it will not.

They are now "opening submissions delivered the week of May 3rd"

    That's so long ago.

I sent in 2 separate submissions, both about a month ago.  It's really disheartening to know they were delivered, but to not see them posted on my submissions page.  I don't think that's a good business practice on their part cuz it creates anxiety for the customer.  I would rather have the piece of mind seeing my submission has been received even if the TATs are way higher.

You think it’s anxiety inducing to see them marked as delivered but not show up on the submissions page? Mine don’t even say that. They straight up just sent me an email saying they don’t know if they have my 75 book submission or not because it wasn’t scanned in on delivery or the scan “did not register” but that it’s probably there somewhere in the warehouse and just to wait 30 more business days and see if it is found. And this was said very much in the tone that this is commonplace for them, basically said that they get thousands of books a day and implied this is a normal screw up.

When you say it’s not a good business practice of course it’s not. But they also know that they dominate the market share and do not care. This is the problem when you have relatively no competition. I’m pretty sure if I sent in a watch to some place to get cleaned that was worth 10’s of thousands like the contents of my submission I’d not have them tell me they don’t know where it is but they probably have it. Why? Because that’s a crazy thing to tell a customer particularly when your customers can just go elsewhere in the future.

So it sounds like you go in and select a book you want to buy, select the grade, and then post your highest bid.  A seller will come around, go "oh, i have that book" and is supposed to put their asking price.  The idea is that buyer and seller can see how far they are and work to meet in the middle without actually having to negotiate.  So the Silver Surfer above, apparently there are multipled people saying they're willing to buy a CGC 10 Silver Surfer #1 for $XX.XX

    A CGC 10:roflmao:

yeah I’m sure the book that doesn’t even exist in the census will be sold on stockx of all places and for a top current bid of 75.00… go ahead and put me down for $80 and I’ll throw in a couple pairs of really used new balance shoes

Does anyone use the delivery tracking tool on CGC? The one where you input the tracking number to see if they’ve taken possession of the box from USPS not the one based on invoice that they actually opened the box? If so how long between when the USPS says it was delivered until when it showed up as delivered thru this tool?

Never-mind apparently this is a me problem… emailed CGC who told me that they get thousands of submissions a day and this one must have missed being scanned in… Which is a bit concerning… but I guess now I wait 30 days or so to see if they open the package that there’s currently no record of.
