  1. Thanks again, Marwood for bringing awareness to this issue. My copy arrived yesterday. Kudos to “ Marian” the OO who kept it in nice shape. I’m amused thinking about the unsuspecting gals who bought this back in the day expecting lighthearted romance, only to open the book and be blasted with “Shoot the girl!”
  2. Looks like a great variety. That Scooby Doo #1 looks like a winner
  3. Not as common as one would hope... here’s another good one (pic borrowed from a sale on the boards in Feb.).
  4. Beautiful copy of #7! I’ll hope to get one about half as nice some day. I’m not offended to be corrected, I’m still a novice collecting romance, but have been collecting them with gusto recently. I’m sure you and other boardies know infinitely more than I would with likely decades of experience and research.
  5. My dad reading a comic some time between 1951-1953. I eventually tracked down that comic on eBay and gave it to him one Fathers Day. I took the photo with a phone camera off my computer monitor, you can see a photoshop magnifying glass in the center.
  6. I didn’t read the book, but would like to sometime... I did read a wiki to see when he died, August 1959 of a heart attack. Also found out he worked at Colletta’s studio, so there’s that possible connection. But Charlton wasn’t mentioned... mostly Atlas. Poor guy died too young like a lot of the greats.
  7. I had it circled on my checklist, my code for WANT IT! Marwood posted that great Sweetheart Diary cover above, Giordano’s homage to a Baker cover (see below)... a few sources I just checked give credit to Giordano with a question mark at the end. I’d lean towards inspired by Baker... but who knows for sure? IMO #6, 7 & 8 hit a high water mark... guest penciller with Giordano inks?
  8. Will do (or would do) if lightning were to strike twice.
  9. Looks like he later found a better copy to slab (pic borrowed from his site):
  10. About 20 years ago +/-, I found this book... here’s the story. I live in Iowa and then as now, I go to lots of auctions. This particular auction was out in the country at a Centennial farm that was finally being emptied of it’s contents after the last generation to live there either passed away or decided to sell. They seemed to keep everything going back over 100 years. Tons of stuff. I was looking through a box with a base size of approx. 12” x 14” and maybe 18” - 24” high. They used it to put catalogs, mail and other paper products in. Near the top was this “coverless” comic that I didn’t give much thought to. The box was full and quite heavy and sold for $1 to me. It wasn’t until I got home and re-examined the comic that it became apparent it wasn’t coverless, that that was how it was made. I looked for it in Overstreet but it wasn’t there. I googled and found nothing. I decided to put it up on eBay with a low starting price (probably $9.99) and decided to put a BIN of $425-$450 on it (don’t remember which but it was one of the 2). Within a half hour of it’s listing someone hit that BIN. I soon found out it was Jim Halperin. Edit: I see now that the copy Jim Halperin had slabbed is a different copy than the one I sold him. I found my old scans:
  11. ...and this is the 2nd upgrade for this issue... finally a keeper. One of my funny favorites.
  12. Very happy with this glossy copy that arrived today in a group lot...
  13. Mail Call! Had to have it because it makes me giggle like I’m still in Jr. High.
  14. New arrival- relieved that this wasn’t a stock photo. Actual comic received, described as VG+ With no back cover scan... and it’s problem-free.
  15. Always seems a bit odd when there’s a mix of direct and newsstands in multiple lots... wonder what the story was.
  16. Cool, thanks for the tip! Just snagged a copy from eBay.
  17. DC Looney Tunes (‘94 series)- #80 with Lola Bunny on the cover... may be due to the upcoming Space Jam 2? Pepe Le Pew issues have been selling pretty well since he was banned in March.
  18. Sir, are you trying to tell me you’ve actually slept with a ghost? A GHOST?!? Oh, excuse-a please... I thought you said a GOAT!
  19. Nothing to see here... previously discussed.
  20. Brilliant! I got your pedigree collection RIGHT HERE!
  21. I had this VG+ copy on my watch list while it was seemingly cheap... would be good enough for the collection if won at a bargain price. It had a bidding surge at the end, making the VF/NM copy with a BIN on my watch list all of a sudden a no-brainer.
  22. Well, like I said, there’s a section on the boards for a post like this. Don’t be surprised if this gets yanked by mods...
  23. I thank this should be in the “O Brother Can You Kindly Spare a Grade” section.
