  1. I don’t recall the ones I have as being inserts, but it was a while ago. If they were, I would have kept them with the books. Were they attached (stapled) to the comics? I debated where to post this since it’s dated 1979
  2. It’s a cool 12 page book. I’ll be posting one on eBay next week
  3. Decided not to wait.... just relisted..... https://www.ebay.com/itm/183349424636
  4. ebay is OK for the small stuff..... What are some of the better auction houses, and why, for higher valued comics?
  5. I can once the case is closed but, although his high bid was $650, his bid over the third highest bid was $581., which is probably the second chance amount. Ebay's not very clear on that, but makes sense. I think I'll just have another run at auction... more fun.
  6. Well.... It was too soon to start celebrating. Buyer didn't pay... not one word from him. Now comic is in limbo waiting for ebay to close case. Buyer sniped auction with 10 seconds to go... either he didn't read description or didn't expect the last bidder to bid up to $650.... or he was struck by lightning... who knows. Anyway, will probably relist Sunday evening if anyone is interested to see the rerun....
  7. Yes... would definitely want to clean and press if I was to slab it.... What I was really wondering was whether the book was a good candidate for all this fuss.... and if you would slab it, well then, that answers that question. I'll probably send it in with next round to CGC. Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the opinions... a real help... What do you all think a pressing and cleaning would do to the grade.... and is that, along with slabbing worthwhile?
  9. Just dug this out of one of my many boxes.... It has a few issues and I would appreciate some expert opinions on grading this gem. Small stain on top actually effects interior pages by leaving a spot that is actually slightly lighter than the pages themselves. Staples are clean, but there is slight stress and a bit of tearing at end of staples (hard to see). Binding is slightly rolled, but sits flat at bottom... All pages accounted for... no writing or other mischief that I can see.....
  10. Thank you.... More than happy with the results..... Wow!
  11. Thanks for your opinion and kind words... and educating me (indirectly) about Newton Rings. All of my future comic postings will surely have many pictures...I'm sure buyers appreciate the extra effort.
  12. Yes... full disclosure and description was always in play. I just wasn't sure what grade to give the book since, if not for the stain, it would grade much higher and probably warrant slabbing. As I mentioned, I hadn't graded a comic in a long time and the process and accuracy of pro grading (CGC) makes grading a bit more daunting..... These long standing forum members were very helpful and I was able to set a grade that I felt was the right choice..... What you probably misunderstood was James throwing out hypothetical situations and being a bit sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek to make a point.
  13. Thanks... I looked around Heritage a bit. Your suggestion to examine their achieves is a great idea and tool... will definitely look at that. Have you sold through Heritage and is that somewhere to bring anything other than high end books?
  14. Thanks.... and i think the help here with advice regarding grading has given me more confidence adding a grade to future auction with comics having tricky failings.
  15. YIKES! You'd think he'd at least have the sense to stop at NM... that alone being a stretch.... at least the starting price will hopefully discourage newbies...and this guy sells comics for a living (at least on ebay) Here's the link to my not even close to Near Mint ASM129 https://www.ebay.com/itm/183325907658
  16. Thanks Bob.... That's how I treat all my auctions. It takes a bit more time, but the end result is happy buyers
  17. Thanks for the support and the bid.... Good luck... What is your opinion of my auction layout?
  18. Did you have a chance to see the actual auction and presentation?
  19. I'm actually not "fully aware" of the grade..... last time I graded a book it was using NM, F, VG, P with plus or minuses..... Professional grading does make one hesitant in pulling a number... which does support the slabbing idea but when the book has obvious issues I think one would have enough faith in a buyer to evaluate what's being offered, as long as all issues are fully disclosed with words and pictures.
  20. As I mentioned, before this thread went rouge, I stopped buying new comics in the late 90's because it was starting to get too expensive for me. I'm now to the point where I need to start thinning out collections. Slabbing and professional grading is something I'm only just starting to learn about.... not like the days of mylar sleeves and acid-free boxes and not so many points of grade. I've been thinking about the purpose and reasons for slabbing a 129 that is 3.5 to 4.0 and I know some might pee their pants for me saying this, but personally I don't see an advantage. It's for sure a key issue, but how rare is it really? There are lots to choose from on ebay in all sorts of conditions and price ranges. I just sent 3 copies into CGC last week from my collection. James pointed out that the first thing a buyer is going to do is send it in to CGC (and be totally disappointed).... But why would they do that? It's obvious that the book will grade low.... Are they speculating, hoping to squeeze a few more bucks out of it? What is wrong with a little old school mylar and maybe a quick read before tucking it away in your acid free box? Some might just like the idea of entombing their key issues no matter the grade, knowing (hoping) that their investment will rise in value as a collectable. Just so I'm not misunderstood, I know that there are many rare comics that benefit from professional grading no matter the condition. .... BTW.... I added a note to my current 129 auction pointing out that this comic, because of the stain, will most likely grade professionally between 3 and 4 .... If anyone bids $1200. they're an insufficiently_thoughtful_person! and will be getting a raw deal.
  21. OK... This thread has turned.... I don't need any lessons or warnings about selling on ebay... been selling collectibles for years without any issues. Only recently have I started thinning out my comic book collection and just wanted advice about stabbing a low grade key book. I take time with my auctions to describe, as well as I can, with words and pictures exactly what I'm offering. Iv'e seem many auctions where the seller does just the opposite with minimal description and one picture. Obviously this lack of clarity can lead to disputes. There are bad apples on both sides, but to lump all of ebay into this is a bit naive or maybe someone had a bad experience .... and the sarcasm isn't funny.
  22. Thanks for the spread sheet JC.... We'll see if my sale fits the average...
  23. Exactly what I plan on doing...added more pics (12 total) ,left grading up to the buyers and sold as is, no returns. There is no mystery as to what they're bidding on.
