  1. I call it a plus when humour is used in a drama, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad did it well. Walking Dead can use it once and awhile
  2. earlier in the episode he said he was going to try armor piercing rounds, up close, and hope that it would work. He came down because he wanted it point blank, and they zoomed in on the bullet after it was fired in order to show it to be this high end armor piercing round. He wouldn't need to be close to shoot him, if he had just shot him from the window when he wasn't even aware of anyone aiming a rifle at his head. Has to be done that way so he can be stopped. Getting shot in the head from long range? You'd throw your beer at the TV out of boredom. Pretty much the same idea as Magneto actually having to pick up a gun to kill Mystique in the DOFP Xmen movie, then Wolvie stopping him. Where in a more realistic sense he would have just drove a metal table leg through her head before anyone could stop him. But then the movie would be over in 30 minutes.
  3. I also thought it was really bad. Having all these future villains show up and be intertwined was just silly. Bruce Wayne is the most unlikable character on the show. I was hoping Bruce would just appear in the opening and then not be in the show afterwards. It takes years for Bruce to become Batman. Based on his attitude and "training" shown in the commercials, he would be Batman by 15. I actually don't like The Strain, but I'm still watching it. The writing and acting on The Strain is pretty brutal. And the kid makes Chandler Riggs look like an Emmy winner for his work in season 1. I'm watching the Strain as well, on the fence with it. Spoiler My biggest beef are the plot holes like the fact that when 200ish people die on a plane, they assign ONLY ONE doctor to autopsy them all. Then no one notices them all just walking out of a major New York hospital. Yeah ok
  4. I only slab a book that I want to sell. Is this the majority opinion, why slab a book that you want as a permanent piece of your collection?
  5. No they don't. They're using buzzwords. "clunky".... really? It reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Peter Griffin says the meal tastes pedantic." It's a buzzword. It means nothing unless you expand upon it. YOUR explanation is a lot better than saying things that are fairly vague and ambiguous. Edit: peter also says the Godfather "insists upon itself." A ridiculously poor observation that is meaningless. Kind of like what some of the reviews here are like. I would have to think a good portion of reviews on these boards went into the show with a negative attitude, making it hard to find anything likable in the pilot. Nerd culture is it's own worst enemy. It`s going to be very interesting reading the reviews for the upcoming Constantine and the Flash TV shows. If this crowd is tough on Gotham, then I can imagine how they will be with Flash by the CW network. CW, a network known for it`s teen angst themes. I can`t wait for the fun reviews that will show up here for the Flash and Constantine shows. Not sure why you would have to wait on CGC forum critiques of Constantine and Flash, as both shows are out there available for viewing. I don't spend a lot of time in comics general so don't know if reviews for those have popped up here or not. I liked Constantine better than Gotham but it was also forgettable. Even though I liked Gotham less there is a better chance of me going back to that and watching a clip of a new episode if a cool guest star from the comics appears. I won't be watching either show on the regular. I didn't like Flash but as I'm a huge fan of the character and his supporting cast, I'll keep coming back to that one to check out the rogues gallery. If the rogues look halfway similar and have similar powers/weapons as in the comic then I'll at least check out the fight scenes. I think that guy in the pilot was supposed to be Weather Wizard, if they have the rogues that different from the books then I won't bother with that show for the most part. I had to force myself to sit through Flash. Funny thing is that a week or two ago I read some snippets of the pilot -script and it was very well written, pretty funny in areas. I almost didn't realize I had already watched it. IMO it didn't translate to the screen as well as I would have hoped. If that keeps up I could see myself reading the scripts (if I could get my hands on them) and dropping the show. . I am not a torrent guy, as I rather watch my shows on a large HDTV screen, then download them onto a laptop or tablet screen to watch. A question is how are you viewing these shows? Are you viewing these shows on a large screen or on a laptop or tablet screen? I ask because I have a friend who doesn`t like the majority of anything. It turns out he was downloading everything onto his tablet that had a screen that was about 6 inches. Of course watching stuff like Godzilla,Transformers,Man of Steel, and Avengers is going to be a different experience on a large screen, then a small tablet screen. Just food for thought. You can watch torrents on your bigass TV. Most newer DVD players will play any format of video and have usb ports. I have a streaming video android box hooked up to my TV so no downloading necessary. just search and watch ANYTHING you want, instantly. It's great, currently watching The Strain, even with the huge plot holes it's enjoyable. Nice to see vampires that don't fall in love with teenagers
  6. You're getting perilously close to advertisers not caring about you at your age! Gotham is probably aimed at 20-40 year old males, the money shot demographic. I'm 47 so I'm even less important to advertisers. Is it the greatest show, no (maybe in time, who knows) but criticism has been pretty harsh from these boards, although not by all. Was the acting that terrible? really?
  7. Why would you assume that? I went into the show knowing nothing about it. I didn't read any threads about it and I didn't watch any trailers. Nada. So I went into it entirely neutral. In fact, I knew so little about the show I actually thought it had been on the air for quite some time already (because I saw the display in SD in July) so I was quite surprised to find out from the boards that it was premiering Monday night and I caught it and watched it with an open mind. The only thing I could think about while watching was how it didnt' really engage me the way the 1st Walking Dead or the first Hell on Wheels episodes did. It was as simple as that. I wasn't engaged, even though I wanted to be. Well I thought about that, and also how Jada Pinkett stole the show. I watched the first season of Hell on Wheels but it never struck me as a great show, kind of Deadwood light.
  8. No they don't. They're using buzzwords. "clunky".... really? It reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Peter Griffin says the meal tastes pedantic." It's a buzzword. 9. I don't think people mind that it's straying from the source material. Most people are past that sort of thing. They are questioning the motivation for doing so but that's different than complaining. But why can't it be as good as Breaking Bad? Shows of that caliber are the new benchmark. I mentioned to my wife a couple weeks ago that Breaking Bad has ruined TV for me, hard to imagine a show as good but I'm hoping! I've found TV outpacing movies for quality these past 10 years
  10. I liked it, I knew if I wanted some negativity this would be the place to find it. No one's harder on the genre they supposedly love than comic nerds. If it's too close to the actual subject it's boring and predictable, if it strays it's blasphemy. Someone was actually complaining about Alfred's accent - really? I wasn't expecting Breaking bad or True Detective but it had solid acting and nice visuals with interesting characters. I'll keep watching
  11. Looks like about a 5 year difference which is meaningless when you're in your twenties and up
  12. Just sorted through 28 long boxes of comics i bought last week. Mostly modern after 2000 with some 80's 90's. All unbagged and jam packed tightly. I never realized how much heavier new comics were compared to old goodness which is what I prefer. Not too many keys, best books were Spidey 300 and lots of higher number variants, DC Comics Presents 22 Whitman variant which goes for stupid money! Alias 1-15 (TV series coming hoopla) 2 sets of Watchmen minty, plus lots of great sets. 6 long boxes of trades & mags long box of GI Joe IDW stuff 2 long boxes of Star Wars Dark Horse 2 boxes of Spidey from 275-700 and other Spidey related box each of Supes, GL, JLA, Deadpool, Marvel Ultimates Rest assorted stuff Sadly he never collected walking dead Did have a run of Crossed which is some pretty sick mess! 5 boxes of drek I just sold for 150.00 to a happy young fellow this morning Best part though were the toys - pretty much a full set of G1 Transformers with accessories, DC Super Powers with accessories, 80's GI Joe, Captain Power, RoboTech. 8 boxes of carded/boxed Star Wars 90's stuff, 3 boxes of HeroClix I'll do well at the next couple of shows
  13. I dont think someone who hunts people for fun cares about human rights Canadians can make him care and teach him to be sorry.
  14. Send him to me in Winnipeg, there's the new Human Rights Museum opening this fall. Kraven can learn a thing or two on human rights n' such.
  15. If you have to have it, buy a raw 9.8 They're identical to the ones entombed.
  16. I thought the guy was spot on Constantine. I hope this is great, looks creepy as hell. Although I hate it when a show I like is on Fridays.
  17. Why not? Ditto that. I don't understand how trimming is considered resto when you're taking away and not adding to. It should be noted but more as a defect than a resto similar to a taped spine. I'd be happy to have any resto 60's Marvel key in my collection
  18. From someone who should know better, I found this to be one of the more ridiculous things I've seen in this thread. Why is this ridiculous? Aren't you in a sense buying a persons reputation when you deal with them? If your answer is yes, then why would buying from a dealer with a reputation to "consistently" grade accurately over a company that demonstrates a fact pattern of inconsistency be a ridiculous notion? I'd personally love to see the data on walk-thru and submissions timed around major shows to get a real sense of how wide and far back this exploit has been used by submitters to cheat the system. Any way you slice and dice it, this thread's existence impacts the perception of economic advantages to CGC grading, and to some extent, raises many more questions on the limitations and validity of its opinion. Name names. WHO is more consistent? Not nebulous philosophical truisms. Exactly WHO am I supposed to trust to be more consistent? trust yourself, don't rely on other companies or dealers to tell you what a grade is. If a book grades the way you feel comfortable with, pay the appropriate price.
