This first issue of Fantastic with a cover by Barye Phillips is one of the most under appreciated books, IMO.

Thanks to @Pat Calhoun and the rest of you yahoos, who sparked the conversation.  It has been a year and a half long quest to uncover the artist called the "Great Mystery Man" of the paperbacks. The article will be profusely illustrated with scans of his surviving original paintings and dozens of the over 550 paperback covers he painted between 1946 and 1963

A lot of Australian comics used Spanish artists or reused previously published art by Spaniards.  This looks like the painting style for the highly accomplished Esteban Maroto.

I think Greg @ Dreamhaven books had it in stock before (2nd printing).  Incorrect.  I just spoke with him and he's sold out.  I also did a broad web search and I'm coming up with no available copies!

Very nice, Dave!  Somewhere, I have the cover proof for 41 but haven't seen it in a few years.  I'm sure it'll show up if I ever reorganize the vault.

Yeah, I was tracking those but got sucked into work and missed the end.  That 24 was a steal.  The 25 seemed about right for an 8.0 and the 23, well... "Prices vary widely on this book".

I used to have an 9.0ish of this that had a double cover many years ago.  Wish I still had it.

Here's a better picture of the cover.  I did a cursory search but don't see any copies available at the moment.  Although, they do seem to show up on eBay on occasion.  I'd set up a saved search and watch for alerts (you've probably already done so, just saying).

That's awesome, seems entirely possible, doesn't it.  I've owned a few copies of this book and at least one of the others had a stamp similar to the one I currently own.  

Yours is a pretty looking copy.
