Anyone else with the inside scoop is welcome to chime in as well.  I just want to come out of this week feeling like I would know an original EERIE #1 if I ever came across it.

I don't like your chances but I'm impressed with your ambition.  Here's some reading material on the subject:

I guess this is as good a spot as any to announce that my article on Johnson, the first ever bio, retrospective and checklist published about him, will appear in the fall issue of Illustration Magazine, the premier magazine of commercial illustration, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Thanks to @Pat Calhoun and the rest of you yahoos, who sparked the conversation.  It has been a year and a half long quest to uncover the artist called the "Great Mystery Man" of the paperbacks. The article will be profusely illustrated with scans of his surviving original paintings and dozens of the over 550 paperback covers he painted between 1946 and 1963

Hey!  This is great to hear, pal!  Can't wait to see it when it comes out!!  :headbang:

First, I am sorry for digging up a year-old post but I blame "You" for constantly making me want more of this art. You can't blame me for trying to keep up and lust after the lines. I just want to be part of the pack.

Second, where might I find this? I did a quick MyComicShop search to try to first identiify the book but no luck.

Okay, Masters of the Spanish Pens and Men o Magazines (n-such)..... how do I find this?

    :foryou:

I think Greg @ Dreamhaven books had it in stock before (2nd printing).  Incorrect.  I just spoke with him and he's sold out.  I also did a broad web search and I'm coming up with no available copies!  :tonofbricks:

Here's a link to Stuart Ng who often gets these issues in:

Well, it was a big stretch, but pulled the trigger on this Eerie 40 original art cover tonight. I was concerned with the printing on the edge, as I have never seen this done, but after much conversation, I’m convinced of the legitimacy. I am so happy to have the first Sanjulian Eerie cover joining my collection, I’m giddy. I’ll try to post up some better pictures when it arrives.

That's an amazing piece and a long term hold.  Early Sanjulian is my favorite Sanjulian.  Nice work, pal!  (worship)

Received book- I think the lighting in the pics made the spine look bad, but in hand the book is stunning  🤩 very excited.

Tonights vamps on HA were out of reach for me.

So you cracked that baby out?  Nice work, sir!  Welcome to a very small club of magazine crackers that have taken down 9.6s. That's rare air and a 9.6 is impressive.

I've had a really good feeling about you since you joined the fold.  Now, it feels like that was justified because, right now, my heart is swelling with pride and admiration.

Anyway, bravo, sir!  Take a bow.

I was hoping this would go a tad lower so I could do one more upgrade on mine but alas the bidders always show in the end on these. I should've had more ballz (or sense!) when I could've grabbed a CGC 6.5 for $900 last year.

You are so right. That’s gotta be Baker’s masterpiece. Ah, I see while I was writing this, @Ricksneatstuffwas posting it.

hey @Randall Dowling, compare the date stamp on your book to the one on mine. Wonder if they came from the same drug store

That's awesome, seems entirely possible, doesn't it.  I've owned a few copies of this book and at least one of the others had a stamp similar to the one I currently own.

Yours is a pretty looking copy.  (thumbsu
