  1. I found these two places where pages appear to have been neatly removed. Looking here, the pages are continuous, but it's only storyline. So it looks like either I'm missing the ad pages, or if the comicbookplus.com scans are complete, this issue has no ads, which seems unlikely. So are pages missing from this comic? Am I correct to assume that they are missing ad pages? Thanks!
  2. List some more stuff for us bottom feeders so that I'm not paying to ship one low cost item.
  3. I've been reading regular books too much, as in close to 2,000 pages since the start of the year. It's a hard choice, books or comics.
  4. Nothing like the smell of Bedrock musk in the mornings.
  5. Envy my $42 Kaluta, suckas!
  6. Marvel could have demanded an exclusivity clause. That'd be too bad. DC has a heck of a history when it comes to comics, broader and deeper than the House of Marvel does. I'd love some DC-specific labels for a few of my more treasured items.
  7. Hopefully, this is it. I still need someone to up their bid by $5 so that I don't win the one book that I'm tepid about. Plus, this way I won't owe ComicLink anything with my auction proceeds. Big thanks to @paperheart for jump-starting my Miller DD collection!
  8. Now that I'm at my PC and not my phone, I wanted to add some commentary. What's become apparent to me--and maybe I'm lucky with the titles I've been picking--is how much many comic creators are aware of the history of their characters. The Archie Vs. Predator II books are entirely about the new and old Archie characters interacting. Jimmy Olsen is riffing off the history of the Olsen and Luthor families, and having a wild time with cartooning and the mystery format. Freedom Fighters updates this team of heroes to an alt history where "Ratzis" won WW II, which clearly explores the rise of white nationalism in our politics. Hawkman is a refreshing take on Hawkman's bloody past and efforts at redemption, much better than the old "Secret War on Earth" narrative that writers from earlier generations hung onto. Olympia is an explicit homage to Kirby, and the issue above namedrops Spiegalman, Toth, and others. Black Terror, yes that one, is about a hero who was essentially brainwashed into forgetting his identity, recovers that identity, and runs afoul of the powers that would suppress him and other heroes. And if you like classic Conan, then you should definitely get a thrill from this series; the issue above concludes the first story arc of this title. So for any naysayers who reflexively pooh pooh modern comics, pluck a few titles off the shelf. Contemporary writers clearly love the past world of comics. Look a little deeper than the mainstay titles of the publishers. X-Men is always going to be milked for sales to the broadest audience, but these b-list titles are good stuff. Plus, support the artists! Don't bemoan the fate of the industry when you don't support it. There: soapbox complete.
  9. 24, 25, 26 Great modern comics for lovers of old school comics.
  10. That “freeze” is normal. In a few minutes, you’ll see it show you the winner. Wait for the email.
  11. 3.5 was the first thought I had. Then I saw the other posts and confirmation bias kicked in hard. So 3.5 for sure!
  12. I'm still holding out hope. A copy of the same book in the same grade was listed here recently for 3x the current bid, though it didn't sell. I have enough lots at auction to cover my winnings and get a small check, so I'd just as soon not win that book. If I do, I'll stick it on eBay and see what happens. Tonight, I won this. I don't collect many moderns, but oh man, Alex Ross blows me away. And HQ, I think, will only grow in value over time. She's an immensely popular character with broad appeal that has, IMHO, real lasting power.
  13. There are a lot of Golden Age covers I'd love to own if not for the racist depictions. I get it. They're a product of their era. I love literature, but I don't read my kid Rudyard Kipling because of the racist content. I'm not going to explain that comic cover to him either. There's a difference between Mark Twain using dialect and examining racial institutions and crass depictions that perpetuate prejudices. Sorry, this topic has always stuck in my craw.
  14. Right now, I'm cheering on whoever bid me up to my limit on the last book I'm leading on. It's a "strong tracker bid" that I placed, but one that I anticipated failing easily nonetheless. But now, I'm at that point of, "I want to check out and leave with my winnings." Go stranger, bid five more dollars, I believe in you!
