  1. Apologies, but I absolutely disagree. And see past my spoiler tags for the litany of other reasons of what made this show bad, and the cheap narrative devices it used. It's "all a dream" or "is it or isn't all a dream?" is a worn out, lazy style of story telling. It renders everything that happens either meaningless or potentially meaningless (which basically renders it meaningless). It is cheap. And it is a narrative stereotype. You want an "intricate" narrative ? Watch Memento again. You want boring, redundant, pointless "storytelling" cloaked in nice production values and pseudo-existentialist "high art" psycho-babble, watch Legion. Or don't. You really quite literally won't be missing anything. -J.
  2. Indeed it is. One of the lamest, laziest, cheapest narrative devices in all of literature. And yeah, it literally describes the first full four episodes of this series, and all of episode 6 as well. And thanks to Boscoe's well meaning suggestion I did watch episode 7. Wow, what *spoon*. Okay, it wasn't as deliberately boring as the first 6 episodes. But it was relentlessly stupid. Spoilers if you don't want me to completely ruin this episode (and basically the whole show for you.)
  3. A "printing defect" in a restored, 0.5 book is one thing. It's an entirely different animal when you're trying to shoe horn something with allegedly that high of an "apparent grade" into a blue label. (Meaning, it really belongs in a green). The utterly laughable disparity in prices between it and what the real 8.0 sold for a year ago suggests that "the market" supports this analysis. And there are in fact some reds present on this cover. The ones that are (particularly on the front cover) just look washed out. Much like the blues on the back cover. There's obviously some kind of atrocious "printing defect" on this cover, made only worse by a pretty bad sun fade to boot. -J.

  5. Hey Peter there is something else weird going on with the book though because it some places you can see the red, and it does just look really faded or washed out, and in other places it is indeed seemingly completely absent. And look at the difference between the vibrancy of the blues between the two copies. The normal copy just looks brighter. There probably is some fade on the other one there, in addition to some kind of printing defect, or the printing defect is more severe than just some missing red ink. -J.
  6. Well regardless of what caused it to look like that, it sold for $215k+ less than the normal looking 8.0 copy sold for a year ago. So it's clear that "the market" does not care for the looks of the book. And whether or not it's a "defect" or a sun fade or a combo of both, I don't think that book should have that grade in that holder. -J.
  7. Good now maybe pump and dumpers will finally shut up about this. -J.
  8. From my standpoint, that book is incorrectly in a blue label holder. At that high of an "apparent grade" it should have been in a green label, as that is a significant "defect" that should be built into the structural grade (as it was clearly built into the price). -J.

  10. This would probably be better asked in the modern comics section. But to answer your question, yes they are both pricey already but I would have to say the potential is much greater on the ASM 667 due to the greater rarity, and the artist name, even though the buy in is much higher on it. Right now there's about 135 graded copies of the 678 versus about 30 for the 667, so that should give you some idea of the relative rarity of the two. But if you can find either in the wild, I don't think you would go wrong either way. -J.
  11. That's a great pick up for eight bucks, even if it's just VF. Congrats ! -J.
  12. Not bad at all. The average of the last 3 sales of this book in a 9.8 (the 3 sales from this year) is now over $5k. Also, I must have missed this, but a "qualified" 9.6 (bottom detached staple) went for $800 a couple weeks ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-608-RRP-Cover-Detached-from-Staple-CGC-9-6-QUALIFIED-Green-Label-Jim-Lee-/142298108073?hash=item2121a0d0a9:g:iCYAAOSw4CFYt3Ai Evidently this book is actually a 6.5, universal with that defect. $800 for a 6.5 modern. Damn. -J.
  13. Maybe not? It's a 15 year old book now, only a few 9.8's of them come up a year, there's one-fourth as many of them as there are of 9.8 Saga 1 RRP's for example, and those go for $2k. And it's Batman. -J.
  14. Looks like somebody listed a different 9.8 copy a day before that other auction is set to close and they accepted a best offer for $5470. http://item.ebay.co.uk/142310839606?item_hash4=54d2e92c&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&LH_BO=1&_ipg=200&_pgn=1&rc=nt&rmvSB=true This book is scorching hot, and is making a strong case for being the #1 most valuable modern variant with these recent sales. -J.
  15. I would say that Venom is bigger than Deadpool and that ASM 300 is a bigger and more significant book than NM 98, and has always been so. -J.
  16. Sony supposedly learned their lesson after ASM 2. Hopefully they will at least consult Marvel before anything gets set in stone. The two companies are supposed to be cooperating now after all. -J.
  17. If the huge announcement of the introduction of the character on the cover of NM 98 already wasn't enough then surely this is. -J.
  18. I can't imagine that they aren't working together. I don't think Marvel is co-producing but one can safely reckon they'll be looking over Sony's shoulder. Plus, there is no Venom without Spider-Man so I don't see any way the movie unfolds in a complete vacuum. -J.
  19. Thanks man. And only because I've been salivating for this moment for over a year now. -J.
  20. It's official. https://www.google.com/amp/io9.gizmodo.com/sony-just-randomly-announced-a-venom-movie-will-be-out-1793351904/amp -J.
