  1. I'm fine not seeing it again, I think it looks awful. Easier for me to find another been mentioned here before by someone http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9359645Post9359645 That was actually the first time I heard about the book. It took me over five months to find a copy after that (on ebay, natch) right about the same time Seven to Eternity was starting to get some buzz. -J
  2. Marvel has people talking about the book. They've already won. I personally will find this book hard to resist if the cover looks great and it is legitimately hard to find. That usually takes 6-12 months to truly be known, but the sound of a 1:1000 ASM is like catnip to this collector. With the title at about 63k last month, unless retailers significantly bump orders across the board, this thing is going to be insane. As for how much Marvel might produce regardless of how many are actually ordered, my understanding is they never print less than one case pack no matter what. With the seeming thickness of this book, a case pack could be as little as 150. As for this book or the idea behind it seeming punitive, or an example of an epidemic of "evil" in the hobby, I must dissent. If anything, the rampant herd-like speculation on even the weakest of rumours of some fifth-tier character or book appearing or being "optioned" in the alternative media is a far greater threat to the long term health and stability in the market than once-in-a-blue-moon books such as this. -J.
  3. I'm fine not seeing it again, I think it looks awful. Easier for me to find another No accounting for taste. Easily my favourite Punisher cover, by a hot artist, and legitimately hard to find. A nice trifecta for those who like to pay attention to these things. -J.
  4. I'm fine not seeing it again, I think it looks awful. Then you're probably glad there's only 12 graded copies after 3 years, in spite of its high price tag. -J.
  5. Haven't seen one of these for sale in a long while.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/PUNISHER-2-2014-Jerome-Opena-1-50-Variant-CGC-9-6-/192086128920?hash=item2cb939b918:g:lEYAAOSw2xRYhqMd Opena. -J.
  6. Variants of the cents priced versions ? But I don't think we're going to agree on that, which is fine. I always say, friends should be able to disagree with each other and still be friendly. -J. Hello all. Mind if I join this debate? I don't like "UK Edition" as I think that term better suits UK reprint titles such as Spider-Man Comics Weekly, or Mighty World of Marvel. To clearly identify that a comic is a first printing US produced original with a Pence price then the word "variant" needs to be used. So the logical term, given that the key variance is the price, would be "Pence Price Variant" in my opinion. I think CGC have got it wrong. "UK Edition" is a loose term. "Pence Price Variant" is a clear, factually accurate term. The same follows for "Canadian Dollar Price Variant" and "Australian Dollar Price Variant". These are the terms I use and promote when and wherever I can. I get what you're saying, but the currency type is not the only difference they have with the regular north American copies, so I can't get behind what you're saying. CGC has it spot on, as is IMO. -J.
  7. Don't know what you are talking about.... you don't sell comics? seriously tired of trolls on this thread... First off, I'm not trolling whatsoever. What exactly do you mean when you say you don't know what I'm talking about? It's pretty simple. They literally pumped up Detective Comics #850 as the 1st appearance of Gotham City Sirens. Before Topher posted a thread on CBSI, it was easily found online and ebay for $1-3 a copy. Then he and Trey pumped it up around the clock for days on end, it vanished from ebay and now sells for $30+ a copy based on a false labeling of 1st appearance of Gotham City Sirens, a label they single-handedly created. Trey even said on their board, as well as the podcast, that this was one of the specs of the year. Well here we are now finding out there are at least 2 other books that are absolutely before TEC850 with the Gotham City Sirens together. Oh, and what does me selling or not selling books have to do with anything I posted? You sir are a grade A insufficiently_thoughtful_person. The post for tec 850 was made well before Trey's post about the so called " spec of the year" and it was one post in a G+ group. Trey posted about it some time after. If you are claiming that he pump and dumped 850 you better have some proof sir. Also show me where they pumped it around the clock. The reason it's the first appearance is pretty clear. The money stolen from Hush leads right into issue 1 of Sirens. Any other appearance by the three might be cool to own but has nothing to do with the Sirens.. I dare anyone here to find a single book where the narrative from GCS is in a book that predates issue 1 of GCS. Unless you can do that I would say Tec 850 is the winner. So then my memory did serve me correct, and Bats 608 (RRP) would "technically" be their first appearance as a "team working together" as well as their first cover appearance in that capacity. Perhaps just officially "team named" at a later time. -J.
  8. What up 'reezy. That was actually a "best offer" accepted for $1100. *Edit- Yes that was the copy RMA sold to that guy four months ago (for $1150). -J.
  9. It's been awhile but did they not also team up in Hush, 2002 (Bats 608)? And all three are actually on that cover (at least the RRP). -J.
  10. its the ole "catch a falling dagar" adage... there's nothing wrong with being a fanboy, our hobby is comprised of all types of collectors...making inaccurate or just wrong assertions, well, it is what it is... "When there's blood in the streets.....buy real estate." "Inside Man" (2006) -J.

  12. "UK Edition" describes what they are perfectly. -J. A "UK Edition" would have all UK advertising in it like many other UK comics that have American comic stories. These are "US Editions" that are priced for the UK. The interior indicia reflects its UK market. The interior of the comic was not altered with advertisements. That would make them "UK Reprints". "UK Edition" accurately describes what they are , and if I'm not mistaken, it is how both major grading companies brand them. But if you prefer "UK Variant" or "Foreign Variant" you can ask CGC to make a change. I've personally gotten them to modify a label on one occasion to reflect more accurate info about a book so it is possible. Yes these are American made comics that were produced, branded, and distributed for and in a foreign market. They are not the original US versions as were distributed here. They are not the same. They were specifically printed for a foreign, overseas market. That this particular market (the UK) also spoke English does not change the fact that they were still produced for an overseas market, and materially altered in some respects to reflect that fact. -J.
  13. "UK Edition" describes what they are perfectly. -J.
  14. What are they "variants" of? They were all printed that way for the foreign market they were distributed in. Silly. -J.
  15. I was quoting from the Pristine Comics dealer report - he (assume also an American) used the term in his Overstreet report The fact remains however, they are literally a "price" variant. But am fine with "UK edition" as clearly I'm not foreign Touche! -J. Agree with you Jaydog - these are indeed "foreign editions" and not "price variants". They weren't sold in the same country and weren't priced in the same currency. Whatever, the fact remain they ARE American comics priced for the UK market. UK editions are generally reprints printed in the UK for the UK market, learning the difference may help you to understand, if you don't care either way then stop posting about it and spreading mis-information which is half of the problem I think the correct term for these might be "Currency Variant" or "Pence Variant" since every other aspect of the comic is American. I don't like "UK edition" since the only thing different is the price. ...and the indicia on the inside front cover is different as well, and I don't believe many of them have cover dates either. And no, they are not "price variants". They were printed with and sold with the standard currency type for the country that they were distributed in. If there were UK versions of these books with "10d" on the cover, or whatever, then those would conceivably be "UK Price Variants". But aping terms that are unique to other comic book eras with an already established meaning is disingenuous, if not outright misleading. -J.
  16. That right edge does look a little too sharp and straight. If it isn't trimmed, 5.5. CGC hammers stains. Gorgeous book and welcome to the Boards! -J.
  17. Nice to see you still looking after this club, Maloney. -J.
  18. The advantage superhero/comic book movies have is, if done right, they can, at least superficially, cross genres. That is something Marvel is making a concerted effort to do. -J.
  19. They still make westerns. They just aren't the "aw shucks, Ma" nature they used to be. They're still here the stories are just told in a more contemporary manner. And for better or for worse, I think superhero movies are a sub-genre that is here to stay as well. -J.
  20. Do you have a link to the November sale? I can't seem to find it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BATMAN-608-RRP-CGC-9-8-VARIANT-COVER-DEC-2002-LEE-ULTRA-RARE-NO-RESERVE-/282238710544?hash=item41b6bcf310:g:BYkAAOSw5cNYFU~- -J. Thank you -J.

  22. Until they eventually find out how much $$ they can get for it. With you gone, so is the book. Not if it's provided for in a trust in a will, barring its sale, for say, one hundred years after I'm gone. -J.
  23. Yes I agree but I am saying 20 to 25 years from now....not tomorrow. Who says in 20-25 years they will be as revelant or that the new generation will want to drop that type of cash for a comic over a painting. I agree with Gator and feel there will eventually be a market correction and may be a glut of comics being dumped on the market as people are trying to cash out. Count my copy out from that "glut". It's staying in the family as a permanent heirloom piece in perpetuity. -J.
  24. I was going to mention that. When Metro's 'prices paid' want list was still valid, the Heritage 9.4 went for what Metro was willing to pay for it. $450K is a lot of scratch for a 9.2 (I was offered one for a customer and he turned it down - money wasn't an issue) so someone must have really wanted this one bad. I don't feel the same way as you do I see AF15 in CGC 9.2 as a 1$ million dollar book in 5 years from now. Whoever got this 9.2 will be very happy if he holds on to it for 5 to 10 years (even more so if longer). I figure once Action Comics 1 hits 5$ million dollars in 9.0 we will see AF15 in 9.2 at 1$ million dollars. When people see AC 1 sell for so much 1$ million won't seem much after that for the King of SA books in 9.2. I would not be surprised to see AF15 in 9.2 go as high as 3$ million to 4$ million dollars in my life time (I am in my mid 30's). and I feel just he opposite. I think there will be some market correction/retraction 5-10 years. But what do I know Does this mean you've run out of copies to sell ? . -J.
  25. Has anyone noted that this 9.2 just sold for $6k more than the 9.4 did just last year? -J.
