  1. Too bad it's in that holder. -J. The way CBCS books have been selling, it don't seem to make a big difference. Have they been selling well? It seems they still sell at a noticeable discount to CGC most of the time from what I have seen. Unless we're talking restored books, which are nicely camouflaged by those pretty blue labels they stick on them. -J.
  2. I hate to say it, but the presence of the 7.5 certainly has the potential to hurt the hammer price of your book by removing at least one bidder -- the winner of the 7.5. In addition, given the clock resets that CC uses when a lot is ending, it's possible that the losing bidders on the 7.5 won't know that they've definitely lost until after bidding on your book closes. So those bidders won't have had a chance to bid on your book. I was hoping that the group of bidders for the 7.5 wouldn't have much overlap with the group of bidders for the 7.0. Also was hoping the higher bids on the 7.5 would coax the 7.0 bids upwards... Some good points, there 1 minute apart from each other on the end time. The books are two completely different price points. They won't cannibalize each other at all. Additionally, both books will undoubtedly go into "extended bidding time". -J.
  3. It sold for the full $17k. -J. Do you know the seller? Or is the seller a boardie? Just curious if ebay has changed viewing best offer options. Both watchcount and GPA show the full boat price of $17k. (thumbs u Beautiful 4.0 you have there BM Cruz! -J.
  4. Agreed. How many bidders do there need to be willing to pay $3000+ for some people to accept it? There are only 25 available in the first place, and the last two (and only two) that have come up for sale in a 9.8 in the last two and a half years have sold for $3k+. It really is simply a case of the market speaking, whether certain people want to "believe it" or not, it is what it is. For the doubters who couldn't even believe it when the book was selling for $200, I say to you that your best (and only) real form of protest at this point is to simply not buy the book. Assuming you could even find one. (thumbs u -J. This site needs Like buttons, then I don't have to waste my time typing to agree with J for millionth time And, yes I'd love to clean you out. You have exquisite taste in books Jerome Thank you kind sir. Your current sig line is sporting a mighty choice selection of modern variants as well. -J.
  5. That's impossible to say. I would keep an eye on the hulk 1's in the comic link auction. There's quite a few there as well. So far there seems to be a buyer at every price point. I'm sure you'll be fine. -J.
  6. Whoa. Did this really just happen? $17k for a 4.0? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Fantasy-15-Aug-1962-CGC-Grade-4-0-1st-Spiderman-/261972342242?hash=item3cfec4b5e2 -J.

  8. Yes, seriously. Just look back at the beginning of this thread when the book was selling for $200 raw. A few skeptics were singing the same tune back then. 2+ years later, it's now a $3000-$3600 book in a 9.8, if you can even find one. And by bababooey's logic, any BIN any single buyer opts to click on ebay or any other comic website's exchange would somehow be suspect unless some unspecified amount of other buyers are verified to be waiting in line to also buy the book. That's just silly. By now it's probably safe to say the book's legend and value is firmly cemented. It will never be "cheap" again. -J. PS: And I got one because I've loved the cover since Day One. It's deliciously wicked.
  9. I think it is much more simple than that: many potential buyers of a 9.8 disappeared from the market, because the 9.8 was not available for a long time and they settled for a 9.6 instead. That's the case with me. I bought an 9.6 and I still can not find why it is a 9.6 and not a 9.8. And another thing is that with the price of 9.6 in decline, upgrading is not an obvious thing to do, unless you have a rather big wallet and are willing to take a considerable loss on the 9.6 on top of the high price for the 9.8. Yea, that must be true to some extent for sure. If only there weren't a bunch of 9.6's flooding the market at the same time, aw well. Like J said, it is what it is. Not to derail the thread more, but I'm pretty sure I would be willing to pay $2K for a Batman 608 RRP should you ever want to sell yours J, no one has to know Jerome Are you trying to clean me out ? -J.
  10. Don't you already have a 608 RRP? Yep. -J. Obviously ! If J's talking up a book it means he has one, if he's talking it down or calling shill then he doesn't. I sold my #608 RRP 9.8 for $2,500 but it took a looong time to sell at that price. I'm not sure there's much depth of demand above $2k. Actually if the shill shoe appears to fit, I call it out regardless. *see, most recently the showcase 4 thread in the SA sub-forum. And I wasn't aware that responding to an inquiry about the last time a book sold (608 RRP) qualified as "talking it up".... -J.
  11. With only two bidders active above 2K - the winner with a "god knows how much" bid and the other with a $1000 dollar snipe with 9 seconds left. That result doesn't convince me it's a 3K book...if there was interest above 2K where are everyone else's snipe bids in the 2-3K range. ....so according to gpa it's a 3K book but that auction result tells me there's now only one person out there willing to pay more than 2K because the other guy just bought one. Aren't many if not most auctions ultimately narrowed down to two dogs fighting over one bone? 90 day average on a 9.6 is just under $1600 and there are nearly twice as many more of those than a 9.8. This book is tough in a 9.8 and they are almost never put up for sale in that grade. A boardie sold his 9.8 privately for $3600 a few months back. Whomever got this one for $3050 got a pretty good price IMO, all thing considered. -J. Yep, it went for a bit less than I thought it would. I figured it'd go for at least 3.5K if not 4K. A pretty good deal for sure. I think the exposure on this 9.8 was low because of all the 9.6s that are readily available; it got kinda buried? There's been a recent influx of this book over the past few months so a lot of interested buyers have their copy and to see this book still reach over 3K is a good sign, imo, that it's worth more once these other copies go away. Batman 608 anyone? When was the last time we saw a non-GLOD 9.8 for sale? That book may skyrocket in price, well over the GPA of $1,750 because it's been so long since one was listed. Jerome I also agree that the 9.8 ASM 678 was lost a bit in the glut of 9.6's that are currently on ebay. The seller said his was the "highest graded" on ebay, but I don't think he was very keen on how rarely the 9.8's come up for sale. The last 9.8 copy of the 608 RRP I saw for sale was on these boards probably more than a year ago now. I believe it sold for just under or right at $2k then. Haven't seen one since then. -J.
  12. There was an auction posted in the thread earlier and people presumably watched it end, if people are free to talk about the hammer price, census population, GPA, blue vs. SS, I was simply commenting on this auction result, sure GPA will show 3K - I just don't think it's a strong result to support that price if you look at the bid history...correctly. All things considered You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But the market has spoken- in this auction and numerous others, as well as confirmed private sales, etc. And it is what it is. (thumbs u -J.
  13. The last two bidders were the ones willing to pay the most. Like any other auction. I still fail to see your point. Buyer got a good deal on a tough book. Kudos to him/her. -J.

I'm looking at the auction result because that offers some insight into demand above a certain price point - it sat at $1650 with a few minutes left and a handful of people were active at that level and their bids were immediately beaten by the eventual winner's unknown number, then with nine seconds left one guy dropped a 1K snipe & pushed the winner's bid up a grand!! I guess it's possible that some of the other active snipers under 2K would have been willing to go higher and didn't have time to reload That's impossible to say. All I know is I saw the bids go something like $1750, $1900, $2051, $2550, $3051 in the last minute of the auction. And that's just what my phone picked up. The demand for this book in high grade cannot be denied. -J. Fixed. The snipe moved a full 1K according to the bid history, the gap is what makes me wonder about demand above 2K. http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=111751851393&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 Three of the 21 bidders with the deepest pockets were willing to pay $3k+ for the book in a 9.8. There are only 25 of those to go around, even less if you don't want an SS copy. $3050 isn't even 2X the 90 day average of the far more plentiful 9.6 slabs. The book sold for what it sold for. The market has spoken. I fail to see your point. -J.
  15. Damn. Makes me kinda glad I've never sold any books to fund a home improvement project. Or ever, for that matter. -J.
