  1. With those kind of extreme high grade census numbers, its definitely a book you can be patient with. -J. Yeah patiently wait and pay more later. This book I'm glad I picked up last year in NM. These are already looking like speculative/ hype prices based on Marvel's recently announced decision to call the character "Wolverine" for a while in a new title. Additionally, the overabundance of nearly 1000 9.8 slabs on the census (and counting) will always keep this book's price in check. -J. Yah, I used to think the same thing with New Mutants #98 and look how that turned out. I say if you can buy NYX 3 do it now. The characters are not in the same league at all, and how have things really turned out for NM 98? NM 98, a Copper book, is 13 years older than NYX 3, with (currently) 1966, 9.8+ copies on the census, representing 26% of total copies. NYX 3 is a modern book, released in the CGC slabbing era, that already has 925, 9.8+ copies on the census, representing 48% of total copies. Those numbers exceed even The Walking Dead 1 (in fact, a far more appropriate potential comparison, but still, not really), which itself has "only" 809, 9.8+ copies (138 less than NYX 3) on the census representing 36% of total copies. As popular as Deadpool is, with multiple hit titles, variants, crossovers, movie appearances, etc, NM 98 still cannot reach $750 consistently in a 9.8. NM 98's massive census numbers in a 9.8 also keep its price level in check. X-23, as a female derivation of an existing character will have an even greater task maintaining these speculative price levels as even more 9.8 copies of the book continue to hit the census, let alone if the newly launched title and attempt at character re-branding is anything less than a blockbuster when it is released, and even more so when the actual Wolverine is inevitably resurrected. In other words, patience with that book is a no-brainer. -J.

Maybe but all I do know is its hitting in NM raw double what I paid last year was all I was saying. (thumbs u -J.

  5. Sniped at $4,606. The last GPA-published sale of a CGC 1.5 was April 2015 for $5,500. That copy had OW/W pages. Today's sale has brittle pages. Looks like that 1.5 from April has been CPR'd. The $5500 price was certainly strong for that grade, but likely included the upgrade-ability for the copy. On any level, this book has made remarkable leaps in all grades and conditions in the last 18 months. -J.
  6. The thing is, which key books on eBay are not shilled now? I can only say for certain that I do not shill my auctions (and I still get above GPA prices on books anyway ) , but looking at the action on a lot of other keys there is shill bidding all over the place whether it is a Silver, Bronze or Copper/Modern key. There is truth to this. However with BA 12, those most recent auctions all ended with what is quite evidently a shill win, thus creating (and maintaining) an artificial price ceiling for the book. Star Wars 1 (1977) is the other big offender of this right now as well, and for similar reasons. With nearly 350 copies of this book in a 9.8 alone it is very prone to being heavily shilled, and is in fact, being heavily shilled. Even the most die hard fan cannot realistically look at those results and call them kosher. My 2 cents. -J.
  7. All I know is that BA 12 struggles to break $1500 anywhere other than (usually) shilled ebay auctions. And it was a series of documented shilled ebay auctions/bogus BIN's that even caused it to get to that level. -J.
  8. Looks like $500 is pretty standard for 9.8 copies. Not too shabby. I should have hung on to more of them in the past. Some serious dollars between Mad Love and BA 12. Patrick BA 12 is one of the most blatantly shilled books right now with fake auctions, fake sellers, and fake buyers artificially bloating the price of this book. Here are just a few recent examples: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=131544052253&aid=p***a&eu=&bidtid=1110466165003&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=131544052253&aid=p***a&eu=&bidtid=1110466165003&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=381302611003&aid=a***a&eu=&bidtid=616337695025&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=371352308225&aid=j***2&eu=&bidtid=731139752024&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-Adventures-12-CGC-9-8-1st-Appearance-Harley-Quinn-/131532548964?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e9ff36b64 -J.
  9. One of Magik Woo's books I believe. It has the new label details. Was just graded in March. Looks to be a second 8.5 copy. Tied for highest grade. Holy smokes. -J.
  10. Highest graded Action 23 going up on Heritage in August. http://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/action-comics-23-dc-1940-cgc-vf-85-cream-to-off-white-pages/p/7147-1001.s -J.
  11. Very nice welcome (back) to the club. I also noticed that the 9.8 blue label copy went for $1250 in that same auction. Too bad c link doesn't report to GPA. -J.
  12. Wow nice. That's a super sharp looking 5.0. Congrats. -J.
  13. Hey there Spidey78, looks like they merged the thread with the original one. Thank you for taking the incentive though. (thumbs u We can still keep a running list of current boardie owners her though, similar to how Snikt does in the Wolverine 1 Campbell club. I'll start it off with the order of those who originally posted their books so far: Universal 1) Spidey78 - 9.8 - Page 4 (O.G.!) 2) Jaydogrules - 9.8 - Page 10 3) Jump_ace - 9.8 - Page 81 Signature Series 1) Kryten - 9.8 - Page 18 Now the list can be copied and pasted into future posts whenever it needs to be updated. -J.
  14. Like dropping a cinder-block from a roof? Twice? Never! I don't understand the speculation thing with major keys, modern dek yes. Just get the book because it's awesome,or maybe because you love it. I like the book, but if you are in it for the flip now is the time to pick it up before it takes off in value just like back then. Speculating on major keys is actually the easiest way to do it. It is nothing for a bigger key to go up a few hundred or a couple of grand with a movie announcement. How many moderns do you need to sell to generate that kind of profit? This is why I try to by bigger keys in multiples - one for me and a couple of extra copies to flip down the road. Well I guess you see it as commodity,as I see it as a grail that I just had to have being an ultimate GL fan. I guess there's nothing wrong with your point of view,I just see it as something other than the flip. You are a true collector and a gentleman, Oak. (thumbs u -J.
  15. That's great congrats! Make sure you post it here when it arrives. Maybe someone should make and keep track of the boardie owned copies of this exclusive club after all. -J.
  16. It sold fast because it's an old label and less than 5% more than the last recorded 9.0 sale nearly a year and half ago. The book was under-priced. Seller could have gotten $225k easy and still left some meat on the bone for the buyer. My 2 cents. -J.
  17. There is only a few 8.0 with off-white and all 8.5's with cream/white. Showcase 22 in cream/off white is the norm. You high standards will cut you out in 8.0's copies. You tracked them? I wish they had a way to sort PQ on the census. I was waiting for an 8.5 ow or better. Now I know why I never have seen one. Yup, been tracking em' for years and I have seen many copies raw and from scans here and there. Interesting. Have you seen evidence that PQ impacts prices on this book? It does when there's less than 20 books total with white\ white- off white pages. Would anyone be surprised if I were to point out that there are no significant or consistent price differences based on the "PQ" on the label on GPA? -J. You know I love your 6.0 white pages in your Sig. Line. Your 4.5 OW/W ain't nothin' to sneeze at. This book took such a beating it's probably due a resurgence. Something tells me anyone who has a copy now is going to be very pleased they do in the near future. -J.

  19. It's nice to see all these great copies coming out of the woodwork. Awesome pick up. -J.
  20. I like that 7.5. I think it will at least match the copy from comic link recently. The 7.0 looks a little over graded to me. I believe that may hold it back, if anything. Although there have been no publicly recorded sales of a 7.0 in a year, so even that may not matter. Wouldn't be a shabby consolation prize for someone priced out of the 7.5 either. (thumbs u -J.
  21. New and tied GPA highs in neatly every low-mid grade over the last 90 days. (thumbs u -J.
  22. But your previous copy granted me entry..... Wow phenomenal copy. Major congrats. This book is definitely picking up again. -J.
  23. I respect and appreciate your well written opinion. However, I don't see how taking a famous character and then saying "hey let's just make a black one now" is in any way remotely fresh or innovative. It is literally the same character, Stan created 50 years ago, except with a different colorist. Come on. That's just plain lazy. And the pandering only exacerbates the silliness of it. -J.
