  1. I wasn't drawing any conclusions. Just stating a fact at that particular moment in time and so if people were interested they could have a comparison point (the Romitaman price) for what the final hammer price was. Nothing more. Nothing less.
  2. But some pieces do achieve high prices early (including in this April Heritage auction) so it depends on the piece. Again, I realize that there are many days left and that it can have a lot of activity as the auction draws to a close. All I was doing was pointing out it was at about 10% of the last assumed sale price at this moment, not that it was going to sell for that price with several days left. I'm watching it to see what happens and I was letting others know so they could do the same. Maybe it goes for over 20k, maybe it doesn't. I honestly didn't expect people to try to mock me or explain how auctions work by saying "So far it is much lower than that at $1,620 with the juice", which was an FYI more than anything.
  3. Wasn't really insinuating that but okay be condescending Mr. Stranger on the Internet, Just pointing it out as I'm curious where it ends up after those 18 days. Maybe it passes what it presumably sold for a few years ago and maybe it doesn't. I'm looking forward to finding out and maybe other people are too, which is why I pointed it out on here.
  4. Romitaman had this Kirby FF page for sale a few years back for around $15K (might have been $16K). So far it is much lower than that at $1,620 with the juice. Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott Fantastic Four #59 Story Page 19 | Lot #97399 | Heritage Auctions (ha.com)
  5. Looks like that bad boy is now sitting at over $7k
  6. Thank you. I honestly had no idea you could bid online. Which begs the question - why is "proxy bidding" even a thing?
  7. Questions about live bidding on Heritage... Do you just track the time the bid comes in and call a number or do you have to call them ahead of time to set something up to let you bid (I'm assuming you already have an active account)? How do they know who you are when you bid?
  8. Question- Does Heritage (or any other auction house) allow employees to drive up the price to near your maximum (which they know) with no intention of winning the art? I think I read about this awhile ago but wanted to make sure I wasn't incorrect.
  9. I thought this could be a good topic as I don't have any experience with any of the auction houses as far as bidding goes. Can we put together a breakdown of each one and how they work from a bidder and seller perspective? I think most of this information as far as BP, etc. is available but I think it would be helpful to have it all consolidated in one place. We could also use this thread for people to talk about strategies (sniping vs. early max bidding etc.) and if one tactic works better at one auction house as opposed to another.
  10. This is good info for sure. Thanks for answering!

    Congrats

20 years ago? That was 2002 and there was plenty of stuff higher than 3 figures by then (beyond covers and splashes too). There are ads from CBG in 1994 that have prices above 3 figures (not the norm but high end pieces were not out of the range of being over $1,000).

    Congrats

I don't see much of a difference in those YouTube dealer shows either. They are all terrible to me, but I think the Comic Art Live one is even more insufferable than the one Bechara is on. Care to name names? The shill bidder everybody knows is Romitaman. Who is the other one (I think I have a good idea)?

    Congrats

I have done this and I absolutely think this way.

    Congrats

I understand the crypto part that it could theoretically be had by somebody with crypto who bought in early at a cheaper price than the cash price. I was commenting on pieces sitting on dealer sites for years and either them keeping the price the same or raising it factoring in what Glen said about how his clientele needed "deeper pockets" to afford his stuff.
  15. kbmcvay

    Congrats

This doesn't make sense to me either. Most of these dealers will sit on a piece for years and not lower the price ever (even behind closed doors and off the record). If you've had a page for 3+ years and it never sells it's because it is priced too high and not because buyers' pockets aren't deep enough. There are a some dealers out there that want to make deals, move product and make some profit on the stuff and others that are basically smarmy used car salesmen. I'm not naming names but I think people that have bought/inquired about art from enough dealers know which are which. Note: I'm actually excluding the Donnellys as "dealers" because I don't think they are dealers in a real sense, but collectors that will sell stuff at very high prices if somebody is willing to pay them.

    Congrats

Thanks. Somebody posted the Sale cover on Facebook yesterday, which is why I figured it was just the one piece.

  19. Ooops. That's what I get for drinking and typing on a Friday night. I'll fix it.
  20. Alan Davis X-Men/Excalbur pages command 3-6K for pages from 1986-88. Many have sold for that price. Here is a link to Gary Land's sale page. A lot of the higher priced Excalibur pages are from the Special and issues 1-7 of the main series. Greg had most of the pages from these 8 issues at one point and has sold them gradually for prices in this range (I bought 2 from him - one from issue 1 and another from issue 3). http://www.rglart.com/ArtistGalleryRoom.asp?ArtistId=514 Honestly the pages from the Excalibur Special should be in the 5-10k range and the other Ecalibur pages from issues 1-7 are in the 3-5k range to break it out more clearly.
  21. It looks like Thor switches over a month later than the FF with the last Twice Up being issue 146. I was able to figure this out with the new listing for a page from 147 on Anthony's being small and a page on Nostalgic Investments from 146 being large.
  22. Just out of curiosity does anybody know the last issue in each 1960's Marvel series to be done on Twice Up boards? I believe FF #67, which is a October 1967 cover date (published in July 1967) was the last book in that title to be done on Twice Up. Did every other series switch over in August 1967 (November 1967 cover date) or was it more haphazard?
  23. https://www.nostalgicinvestments.com/by-artist/947/john-romita/untold-tales-spider-man-1-p16-signed "I really enjoy futuristic stories that deal with what could be. They always interested me because they place the hero in a world that you can only fantasize about. What better fantasy world than to have Mary Jane and Peter marry and about to have a child together ? To have it drawn by Romita Sr makes it that much more special." This storyline was about Peter Parker's parents. It takes place in the past. The baby in question is Peter Parker. Wolverine is featured prominently.
