  1. I used to collect these and it was a lot of fun when I did. I remember how heavy and solid in hand each piece felt. I still keep my favorite one at my desk, which is the oversized Galactus.
  2. Based on the very insightful comments above as well as my 2 cents - I would NOT press this book regardless of the credentials of your presser ----- and I'd pack this book using a top-loader as well as bag with a clear note to CGC to handle with care. I would also send it express tier for the fasting shipping and return possible. I also think with the culminative wear and tear - a press will not make a difference other than appearance-wise perhaps and the less people handling with less transit on this raw book the better.
  3. IT definitely was not a 5.5 by any shot and the bidding reflected that. Still a very pretty copy of a very desirable Baker GGA. Hopefully the winner gets a blue label of at least a 4.5 with good PQ.
  4. Actually they are much much more than that. They are often historical treasures that were rarely preserved thus owning a special ‘comic book’ is like finding a time capsule. To be a true collector is to understand that gems 💎 can indeed be a comic book 📖 and one’s appreciation for history is what binds it to you.
  5. I have been in this crazy hobby on and off for 40+ years. I have been fortunate to own many of the silver age keys I covet in blue labels. I honestly look at certain restoration as the kiss of death on a book - for example trimming, pieces added, spine reinforced - however - my personal feelings should never-ever distract or denigrate another's purchase let alone your joy in owning a restored book, which is not my cup of tea. I also loathe signatures on covers and when I see an AF15 with a super-common Stan Lee's signature - I feel a bit sick as if the book was desecrated but I am in the minority there and that is just my opinion. I consider myself a pure collector in some ways and comics should not be trimmed, color touched or signed (signatures on super common stuff - fine) - and if they are I often don't give the book a 2nd look. To each his own, which makes this an interesting if not animated topic of conversation.
  6. thanks.... I have seen 4.0 copies that I prefer aesthetically way-over 7.0s because of the front cover presentations. I don't like those semi-faded lime greens that many copies have. This often explains the price swings you see in this book. GPA does not grade eye-appeal.
  7. Finally got a WHITE pager. While I am not so into a comic being white vs off-white-white - I was never able to secure a white-pager until now. If I had to hazard a guess I'd imagine easily less than 10% if not closer to 5% of all blue labeled X-MEN 1s are designated White pages.
  8. Take Startling 47 per pm ☝️💕
  9. This is why I miss you on the Boards - all action - less pontification
  10. One the best comic book sellers to transact with . Every purchase from Greg was done with great care, consideration and efficiency. Truly an amazing individual on all levels (and a great personable guy too!). Roger
  11. IF this horrid policy goes down - I will simply copy, paste and print the graders' notes and attach to every CGC book I offer to sell and trade. This new policy creates an ethical if not moral conundrum I believe by requiring more vigilance on the part of all buyers. It is very poor business practice when a new shift in policy can easily lead to deception, disappointment and deceit. This was not carefully thought through by those in charge.
