This has got to be the high water mark for speculative dumbassery in the hobby. I thought it couldn't get any worse than Foom 2 but here we are.
Oh come on have we forgot Squirrel girl yet. That was the high water mark
I'm having a hard time figuring out the original comment. A high profile actor is playing a comic character. If you don't understand why people are clamoring for the book I'm afraid the comic industry and it's current buyers have passed you by.

Sorry if this is a repetitive question. Is there a break even point for the publisher and creative team. There seem to be tons of titles barely pulling a few thousand.
Of course, but every book is going to be different based on a lot of different factors specific to that comic.
for creator owned titles it appears you need to be selling 7000-8000/issue to stay afloat.
I don't even think a lot of the smaller companies ever even reach that like IDW, BOOM, and ones even smaller than them. I guess if you are saying Image, that sounds about right looking at series that have been cancelled, but even then it takes a while flying under that mark.

Its a title that most said would fail, but out sells anything, including WD and outcast, that Image puts out. Rivals Amazing Spiderman in sales too. It will only get better, my guess.
Is it a fair assesment to compare a DC title to an Image book? Even if it is walking dead?
Funny what a month can do.
Really surprised how little the new Strain did.
6 Walking Dead 130 $2.99 Image 71,885
7 Harley Quinn 9 $2.99 DC 71,522
167 Little Nemo Return To Slumberland 1* $3.99 IDW 11,883
196 Strain Night Eternal 1* $3.99 Dark Horse 9,394
211 Fade Out (Movie Magazine Variant) 1 $5.99 Image 8,278

The Dodsons have a rule? What is it?
+1
The rule also applies to JSC.

What about issue 25 first Isis. She could play a big role in the movie. Although her name isn't the best name to have right now.....
Good thinking . Now try to find a copy
That book jumped a while ago too.

Sounds like some Wizard mags are undervalued.
Just be happy that people even care about Malibu Sun.

10 Harley Quinn 8 $2.99 DC 76,827
Even better, next spring this will be a $6 - $10 book at the local shows.
Why do you say that?
But why would the price go up is what I'm getting at. There are plenty of popular books with good stories that never go above cover.

Just wanted to reach out and suggest THIS LISTING for all you Spawn #1 speculators out there. I ordered 15 copies last week from this guy and got them today and they were all VF+/NM. Maybe 1 or 2 9.8s but certainly great deal if you're buying bulk. Seems like he has plenty left but at the rate he's going he'll probably run out soon. He combines shipping too
At that price, even with the shipping charges, there is some meat on the bone if you are willing to wait a while. Honestly, other thn cgc 9.8s I wonder how good an ebay book that can be as there are always so many for sale. Seems like a good $10 show book if Todd M. is doing autographs.
Listing ended now. That was quick.

Standouts, to me. Surprised Sandman is getting that much love.
Also, in the top 100 books only 8 non-Big 2 books.

13 Sandman Overture 3 $3.99 DC 72,563
27 Life With Archie (comic format) 36 $4.99 Archie 57,054

Infinity War 1-6 $52.00 with 10 hours to go. Warlock ?
This has been this way since Avengers
Not really. I think this is more of a fluke.

The only reason I can see any more attention now than a couple weeks ago is because Chuck mentioned it in one of his email's. I think he fell off the wagon too because he still sells them for $3 each BEFORE the discount.

$175MM WW box office on $100MM production budget is a failure.
It wasn't a failure, it will turn a profit.
Looks like it already did by those numbers.

Both the Star Wars: Jedi vs Sith and Star Wars: Jedi Quest books were $10-15 books for many, many years. The Star Wars Infinities 1 was always a hard book to get and is only slightly higher than what I normally see it sell for. I just don't know if it is the movie speculation driving these new, higher prices or people wanting to finish out their Dark Horse runs now that they are done publishing Star Wars comics?
Also, the same buyer bought two of the three which suggests they were filling a hole or they know something we don't.

Where did you hear this? He has a bunch of podcasts but I have not heard of this.
I'm not 100% sure what you are disputing, but ...

Wasn't disputing anything. I was attempting to state that he is being interviewed all over the place these days so it's hard to keep up with what he says. Thanks.

For the record, Gunn said he wouldn't use Nova in the Guardians movies. That doesn't mean Marvel won't use him in any other upcoming film.
Peace,
Chip

Amanda Waller's first appearance is one example but there are a lot of factors you are not taking into account. For example-print run of her first. Archer and Armstrong might be one of the best titles from the original Valiant line but they printed a ton of zero issues so their first appearance isn't worth much despite the recent movie hype. Then we have to remember that Amanda Waller is not the Governor or Deathstroke.
Sardu is the series villain. If the show continues to build an audience collectors are going to care about where he appears first.
Didn't know about that TV issue, cool cover.
Ah, you hit on the one normie book that has done well, TWD.

2001 #8 1st Machine Man. Is there movie talk going on that I don't know about?
Yes, reverse movie / comic book:
Funny. Mister Machine / Machine Man / X-51 was a Kirby creation for the comic
I totally see this getting hot! Well overdue. Classic Kirby book and not too many copies around!
Wouldn't say that, plenty along with Devil Dino and Sandman.
-
I believe issue 5 is the first appearance of Sardu, the Master. If so then it's more than a " normie "
I wonder if the strain was previewed anywhere...
I'll disagree. When I say "normie" I thinking, what separates this character from others in comics? Usually it's a mutation of some sort that makes them different and collectible, which is what the question was about. Amanda Waller has been very much involved in TV and New 52 Suicide Squad and yet her 1st appearance is not worth a whole lot more than 2 years ago. Sardu is The Strain's version of a Vampire. I'm not saying this doesn't make the story any better or worse, just doesn't do much in terms of collectability, IMO.
....there is a "TV" preview:

I wonder when the Strain 5 will start to get hot?
Don't see it being any more valuable than any of the other books. The characters in this book are all normal human beings for the most part and very rarely do "normie" books do much.

I have never gotten into the Miracleman love. Everytime I see them cheap I flip them out pretty fast. Paying $15-20 for those books I have never understood and those are the cheaper issues.
Ever read it?
-
Not sure if I should ask this in Copper or Modern, but how hard is it to find the later issues of the Eclipse 1985 series of Miracleman? They have copies of #17,18,19 and 22 here at $15.00 each at a local Vintage Stock store.
That's probably too high. With some shopping around you can get them for less than that.
No way, especially if they are VF/NM or NM. #22 alone will pull that.
Vintage Stock is running a BOGO sale next weekend. The particular store that has these is about 25 miles from my house. If I get time, I may run back and pick up the Miracleman #18,19 and 22 since they would end up being only $7.50 each next weekend.
Oh, shoot. Thought that was $15 for all of them. $15 each I would pass unless you want them desperately. You can wait it out and find a better deal on eBay.

If those two are what you're shooting for you're better off buying a lottery ticket. Seems like an average of 6 books in the top 100 are non-big 2. I would suspect it's the only way most people can get their foot in the door now.
