  1. Onto a really cool title that crossed over from underground comix as I understand it. Here are some of the better covers from the run IMHO!
  2. Or is that Horror and Humor? oh well... These are not listed in the OPG so does anyone know how many issues there are? I only have these three.
  3. Can't let this thread die! Too much Copper Horror still out there! Here's some good 'ole b/w Rock-n-Roll Horror from NEC, home of The Tick!
  4. Finally got a nice (VF) copy of this guy! I wonder if these are the same pesky kids on Cain's roof from HOM # 175? Won't they please just leave those Gargoyles alone?!!??
  5. Just reader quality here but I just love this Sutton cover!
  6. until I chased the spirits away with my "Ghost Cane"!
  7. Guys...I just found these Charlton's in a HAUNTED long box of horror! Brrrr!
  8. Nice books and interesting thread but I have a slightly OT question for anyone who might know: When did the Sub-Mariner get his ankle wings? I noticed on these two covers they are absent. Or has he always had them and are just left off by certain artists?
  9. Was wondering the grade myself. Classic cover, you gotta hand it to the artist as not actually showing a decapitated body even though that's what you're looking at. That excuse (among others) came in handy during the senate hearings.
  10. Cosmic, I asked DiceX the same question a few months ago. Here is his reply: I received the book today. It looks to me like it was a "hand bound reject". I'll try to explain it... A publisher requires a certain number of books to be produced. During the bindery run, they have enough raw product to produce the run + a percentage predicted by the bindery allowed for waste. Say the run is 100,000 books and the bindery expects 3% waste...They receive 103,000 books worth of raw product. During the run there are books that jam up in the binder, or have odd flaws (untrimmed, unstapled, no cover, etc.). Those books are stacked to the side until the end of the run. When the raw product has been depleated, if the count doesn't add up to what the publisher ordered, they have to find a way to fill the order. They go through the "reject" skid to find any books that can be salvaged. There is usually nothing wrong with them, they just have been produced incorrectly. They take those books and piece together what they can. These books are bound by hand, stitched (stapled) by hand, then hand trimmed on a flatbed cutter. Whatever they have to do on a book by book basis. After "pulling rejects", if the order still has not been filled, they have to go back to press to run enough raw pieces to finish it off. The book you sent looks like it was produced without a cover. The body of the book had already been stapled, so a fresh cover was placed on the book and stitched onto the body. (The second set of staples) The staples are done by hand, so that would explain why they were off centered. There are no other staple holes in the cover, so it was definately a raw cover that was placed on the book. Afterwards it was hand trimmed on a flatbed. No doubt in my mind that the book left the factory this way. I don't know if this book would have passed through CGC without a purple label, because I don't know if they would have been able to tell it was a factory error. I have a House of Mystery issue like described above and always wondered why it was stapled on the inside and outside. Thanks David for re-posting and DiceX for the answer!
  11. Sterling, you have to let me know how nice that Ghosts # 42 is when it comes in. That is one of my favorite covers of the run!
  12. Keith, picked mine up off ebay also for $10.50 total. After seeing the NM condition, the price was fair IMHO for a 1973 digest warehouse find or not.
  13. Recent pickup in super nice condition (looks unread) and a dynamite Gray Morrow cover! Interior contains text stories and spot illos. by varied artists including Brunner and Ploog.
  14. Keith, It sounds as like you are going to have a truly HORRIFIC Christmas...um...ahh, you know what I mean!
  15. Another great book Paul! That splash from the story "Terror on High" is worthy of being its own cover IMHO. And why is it all wealthy misers are named Silas?
  16. No kiddin'...if that's not a Williamsonesque T. Rex, I don't know what is! The Marvel graphic novel is all one story so the interior art shown above is all intertwined. Leave it to Jones to have creepy horror type characters mixing it up with dinosaurs!
  17. Nothing spectacular about the grade here, I would say VF/VF- but I was thrilled to find a copy that has the whole CCA code and # 88! Every other copy I ever came across has been miss-cut to some extent. Great greytone cover plus I snaged it for $5.00!
  18. ArAich, I'm surprised no one else has commented on this book yet, it's a beauty! (and now on my hit list!)
  19. I grew up on Dominguez covers on the DC mystery books. I actually read in a later HOS issue's "House of Secrets SPEAKS" letter column that there was a general section of the reader audience that were tired of his covers. Go figure. Never did trust what the "House" said! That house had an attitude problem! That he did....That he did. Abel couldn't get respect even in his own mag! But to clarify many readers dialed in with "No more Dominguez". Gotcha. I have to say I enjoy reading the letter columns much mor now than when I was a kid. I was reading the "House of Secrets SPEAKS" recently in issue 105 where there were letters praising issue 100's cover and story and how Berni Wrightson was the best new artist of the stable and to "chain" him up so he can't get away! What suprised me I guess was how some fans recognized the good artists and writers so early on!

  21. Just picked this up on ebay, magazine format/size. Never heard of it before. Great story with sort of a Twilight Zone feel to it combining horror elements with science fiction, from Marvel no less. Story and art by Bruce Jones! Some sneak peaks from inside!
  22. I've stated in the past that this also was my favorite Red Circle cover for the reasons you say ( that underlighting really sets the mood) also for the unorthodox horror setting--a DJ booth?? Great concept!
