Please show me a NON ASM Romita cover that would sell for 478,000 dollars.
That's a top cover from Romita's ASM run. However, I can show you other Romita ASM covers that have sold for less than his non ASM covers.

All I'm really trying to say, which is just repeating Bronty actually, is that the demand (and thus prices) are due to the character/title combination and then the relative ranking inside that by artistic run. This is proven constantly by all the non-whatever art by these artists. Sure it sells and it sells for more than nothing, but the heat is on the title and character not the artist.
Who's paying Trimpe Hulk prices for comparable anything Trimpe non-Hulk? Nobody. Romita ASM prices for anything Romita non-ASM? Nobody. Etc etc.
Not true. Romita could draw any cover with any popular Marvel characters and it will sell for as much as as ASM stuff.
And Avengers covers and Thor covers.
Any splashes or covers Romita did for FF would go for huge money too.
So to say Romita is ASM only is jokes. He just happen to spend a lot of time there.
There was a reason they would bring in Romita just to do faces. His style of drawing was one of the best looking in the comic art business.

There was an episode of Comic Book Men where the Kirby heirs brought in a Black Panther page by Jack. I can't remember, was this the page?
Nooo that was actually the original BP concept drawing that they showed. That would be amazing to own!

Just basing it on the last Manthing cover that sold on HA for around $18K, though I think that one was a Brunner cover? What do you think this Ploog cover will fetch?
Well that cover just went from 5600 to 24 k in 2 bids.

I inquired about a piece this weekend to coollines that was posted also on comic link. I wanted to make a deal happen but instead I got no response and they jacked up the price on comic link by 20%? Why would you raise the price when I am inquiring to buy it?
Strange folks....

Look under the unsorted, miscellaneous tab for the next big auction. It's not listed properly yet.
Thanks Bill .. I was able to find that! A page from Thor 175 from what it looks like.

I do not have examples on hand. Generally, it seemed like Everett tried to take a bit more of an illustrative approach, adding more textures and details/hatching that weren't part of the essential raw Kirby power. Also, stuff is a bit more angular with Everetts' inks on Kirby than I prefer. Don't get me wrong, it's all very polished and it's easy for me to see why people like this pairing (as do I on this page in question). Some people really like Syd Shores inks on Kirby and I can't stand it as it's too feathered and soft. I sold my Captain America 108 cover years ago because of this (you're welcome Glen Gold!). Having said that, I admit that I really like Wood on Kirby from Skymasters, even though it's likewise very heavy handed and softens up Kirbys' power pencils a great deal. In the end, it's all just personal preference. And to repeat, this particular Kirby/Everett page is a home run!

I have to agree. Everett struggled with alcoholism so a lot of the time he was hastily going through the inking to meet deadlines. Especially when drawing over Kirbys layouts on TTA - the art just didn't stand out. But for whatever reason on their short stint on Thor 168-175 they created some brilliant looking art. Not sure if they worked more closely together during this time but whatever they were doing - it was honestly brilliant. Almost every page of Thor 171 is a masterpiece.

How come some of you guys don't post the art here on the boards?
Do you mean the image of art directly on the boards vs a link to caf?
If that is what you are asking I personally like driving people to my CAF gallery. They can always check out the few other pieces I have if interested!

Thank you for all the kind comments! Makes me feel a little better about the pieces I had to let go

Don't agree. Romita redefined Spider-Man and made him more acceptable to a wider audience, hence increasing sales. Saying you could have brought in anyone to do this is silly.
With no Romita we have no Kingpin ( with no Kingpin what happens to Millers run on DD?) no Punisher and a whole wack of other characters. He designed the Wolverine as well.
Are we saying all of that could have been easily done by, Heath? Nope. He's a good artist but don't think the vision would have been there
There is a reason he was art director at Marvel for almost a decade.
