About Tomorrow's Treasures...as a customer of Richard's for over 20 years I can recommend him to anyone , but you need to know a few things: He will pull the book for a second look before sale if you ask him to. He will re-evaluate the book over the phone with you. He will discount upon request, but the request must be made politely. Do NOT EVER tell him he is asking TOO much for a book. Politely state that you realize it is probably an over-guide book, but you cannot afford to pay that much. Ask if he can negotiate on the price. He will...9 times out of 10. Once you are negotiating, be polite and try to get the book at your level of spending. He will only go so far, but does not mind if you are polite. If you are not polite, and tell him what you think in a demanding tone, he will ban you forever...and never tell you why...that's just how he is. He doesn't have time for people that can't be respectful and polite. He will even joke about how you are beating him up over the price , but that's just part of the game...ever bought a car? He will also tell you a lot about comics. He likes to talk. You might need to change the subject if you want to get back to the sale if you ask the wrong question...he is very thorough in his answers. I called him yesterday to give him a want list and ask a couple questions...I wasn't looking to buy anything at the moment, but we still talked for over a half hour.

Thanks guys. The 24 and 32 are the best in the 2nd group. I'm afraid to submit anything, lest it come back too low or (shudder) a PLOD... I already know the #30 is restored because I had it restored. That book went from a good to a VF...

And what does NM and Nevada (where they also tested the A-bomb) have in common? Answer: There are NO Saguaro cactus in either of those states, yet they are on the cover of the book...maybe that's why schools didn't buy many of them. The publisher couldn't get his geography right...

That's just the photo and the distance from the books...the 21,22,and 23 are VFs or VF+, all the others are lower...not real low, but lower than VF...

You got gypped...there's no color on those original art pages... WOW...cool. I like the alternate cover pic too. However, does anyone know what the serious mistake is on both covers?

Yeah, I found out when I bought that issue of Superman 19 (at Collectors Bookshop in Hollywood) in 1967 that it contained TWO of the stories reprinted in that giant #183. Later that day I found the first Mxyztplk story in Supe #30 at Cherokee. However, the only way I would want to go back to those days is if I knew what I know now, otherwise it would just be a repeat of the same events...

I'm severely outclassed here...but I found these on my coffee table today: Five of them I got for less than $10 each...it stinks to be old...

As an author myself, I know a little bit about time frames and how tough it is to juggle several projects and other work at the same time. An author has to write something every day, or the book will never get finished. If this is Matt's first book, he may not know that rule. MATT...write something EVERY DAY (even if it's for only 10 minutes) and the book will magically get done...

Yeah, but they should have also told them to wear foil hats so aliens couldn't read their thoughts... Ya know, I didn't even know it was aimed at schools until I started this thread...so ya learn something new everyday. I always wondered why it had no price on it.

I don't think the public was fully aware of the radiation problem or the range of a nuke in those days...or maybe the artist wasn't, but that's what makes it such a great oddball cover...you'll notice in that video that they never mention radiation...just the blast and heat...those kids under their desks would have been toast.

In their defense, the atom bomb was a really big concern in those days, and school kids were taught to "duck and cover" in case of an atomic attack...so yeah, I can easily see that choice being a good one to get the schools attention...no matter how unrealistic the cover was.
