  1. While I think HOS92 is a great book and was undervalued ... it to is subject to speculation as it had a run-up prior to Wrightson's unfortunate passing. This run-up happened to be tied to the rumors around a Justice League Dark Movie - which saw Zatanna and Swamp Thing have run-ups in their respective first appearances, Hawkman 4 has dropped since then, whereas HOS92 has retained the run-up and continued to gain (no doubt partly linked to Wrightson's death).
  2. Well maybe 9.8 copies of UXM266 will drop drastically and I can buy one ?
  3. Hulk 181 CGC 7.0 just went for $2,980 again well below the prior high of $3,600. In fact last three sales since that one were $2,950, $3,095, and now $2,980. So perhaps the market is settling in on a price point???
  4. I am in the process of getting some art framed and am wondering whether people predominantly choose white or black as the primary matte colour surrounding a black and white panel page? Definitely going black frame and was thinking black matte - but the framer (did not have the art with me) - said that with a black and white piece that he typically sees the use of a white matte, however looking through photos of panel pages here it seems people predominantly choose black mattes - just wondering if there was a specific reason?
  5. Undervalued Key + Speculation re Disney = Big Price increase (see FF5, FF48, X-Men 1 (and Hulk 181)). Although I also think part of FF1s increase is the fact that it was very cheap relative to its counter parts and collectors are focusing on getting a copy like they did a few years ago with IH1.
  6. Oh I agree - not saying FF48 is completely speculation, there is certainly demand driving it but there is also speculation. It is the same with IH181 - there is certainly demand but also plenty of speculation (of course all IMO).
  7. I think FF48s rise is quite similar tbh - 7.0 before Fox announcement was an $800 book, now it is a $1,700 book. While there is some demand driving the prices - I think there is plenty of speculation and stockpiling.
  8. Has there been a corresponding run up in GSXM1 midgrade copies like 6.0-8.0 or is this run up limited to Hulk 181?
  9. I had no idea a movie was announced - but that would make sense.
  10. Agreed I don’t understand the pricing on Bats 227 and 251 - both awesome covers, but overpriced IMO. I think Batman 232 should be worth a lot more than those two books - first appearance of a top 5 Batman villain (and a true first appearance not a first Silver age).
  11. agree 1000X Now someone can quote me and argue that these current prices are bargains and that Wolverine is a massively important character (which I agree with)....... to that I say no one knows for sure, but coming on and screaming that it can only go up, seems to be an attempt to hype the book and seems like a speculative play, but everyone is entitled to their opinions
  12. For such a popular book it is hard to track one down let’s see if my WTB has any luck. ?
  13. Well technically SC4 is the beginning of the Silver Age I also think Tec27, Cap 1, MC1, etc are just more important books to Comicdom then FF1 is (and more important than SC4 as well). But reasonable people can reasonably disagree (and I mean no disrespect by disagreeing with you on this )
  14. If by T27 you are referring to Detective Comics 27 there is no way FF1 is a more important book. We are talking Batman - arguably the most popular superhero ever ..... I mean its Batman .... It is not even clear if Fantastic Four #1 is the most important Marvel Book or Silver Age Book - let alone #2 overall in the hobby ..... what about Marvel Comics #1 or Captain America Comics #1? I enjoy the FF and think FF1 is a beast of a book that has been undervalued (same with FF4, FF5 and FF48) but I don't think it is the most important Marvel book - but everyone has their own opinion
  15. I somewhat disagree - I love low grade presentable copies that have clearly been well loved (for silver age keys) as I can see the original owner reading it hundreds of times and folding it and putting it in his/her back pocket etc. (Don't get me wrong budget also dictates that I buy lower grade keys ). It is somewhat similar as to why for copper books I much prefer newsstand copies because I can picture them being purchased at a local newsstand or corner store and for the purpose of being read as opposed to collected ....
  16. People keep saying how plentiful DD1 is - but I have been having a hard time locating a nice 2.0 for sale (PM me if you have one ). I agree with other posters above - that yellow costume was amazing! I wish they had kept it - but ah well!
  17. Oh I don't think it is a $3,500 book (or a $2,900 book for that matter) - what I was pointing out was people were trumpeting the 5.0 sale from the same seller saying look at how high this 5.0 sale was AND were also trumpeting the $3,500 sale as the new benchmark. So I was just pointing out that each successive sale will not be for more than the last like most people seem to think it will be AND I also found it curious that while the high 5.0 sale was trumpeted the lower 7.0 sale was not (and I guarantee if the 7.0 sale was for $3,501 this place would have went bananas over it).
  18. Except that “terrible” eBay listing for the 7.0 was the exact same as the 5.0 (same seller same listing photos etc.) - so sets a record for a 5.0 and misses on the 7.0 by $560 ..... nothing to do with the eBay listing, the pricing of this book is just all over the place with people speculating that they can sell for more.
  19. And a CGC 7.0 ended 4 minutes later for $2,940 - a drop of $560 from the $3,500 sale a few days earlier ? ....... the sky is falling ? Pricing is all over the place - And this much volatility and price growth this quickly is not something I would trust. But I would be really happy if I was sitting on copies to sell
  20. I think a ton of sellers are holding onto copies right now because of the rampant price increases. There is a lot of stock of this book - in fact, just look through this thread and you will see several boardies with multiple copies (sometimes as high as 6-8 copies all graded). Supply has not dwindled, sellers just don't want to sell for current prices for fear of missing out on the next $500 jump. I do not believe that Demand is the main driver here - but truthfully none of us really know the answer to why this book is increasing like it is.
