  1. Does CGC and/or their witnesses attend international cons like ones in Mexico? I agree that you should find something he actually worked on and get that signed. If you have no intention of selling it, it does not matter if CGC witnesses it-- but if you sell it later, they will not authenticate it if you get it slabbed.
  2. I thought someone posted a 7 cover book on here that was CGC'd can't imagine how a 12 cover book (or 7 for that matter) is even possible.
  3. Complete with mini-Spider-man logo (blob) inspired by the great Stan Lee!
  4. If you had a double cover of Action #1 -- that might be the rarest book ever. Someone with a coverless copy might buy it just to make two complete books (who knows).
  5. This -- the cover grade reported in the small text under the book title is just for each cover alone AND assuming the rest of the book is solid. Taken as a whole, they won't up your grade because the center wraps are impacting the books grade. IIRC We came across this situation in one of the recent grading contests where the book had multiple covers but another issue like a loose center wrap was disclosed. Tough book to grade.
  6. I really enjoy the animated series-- considering finding a TPB or some real issues of this series to check it out.

  8. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Strange-Tales-102-low-grade-First-appearance-of-the-Wizard-/122436186658?nma=true&si=nsroHNfpCZZ4WD%2FlUb7dD8slCn8%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 This should be arriving today-- hoping for the best but understand I should expect a real beater book. That's ok-- it works for me.
  9. just a case of "collect what you like" imo Those books weren't anything I am familiar with but I respect someone getting excited to win something they covet.
  10. if you live near Michigan State University, they apparently offer their triplicate donated books on a weekly basis for sale on campus. I only know about it after watching this video about their library collection of comics which is immense- including foreign stuff.
  11. I find some of his letters fascinating-- not so much for the content/topic but the general tone. I personally have no interest in sending him a letter. I like his Dr. Strange stuff and his ASM is cool (not a major collection focus) but I don't have real questions about the art. Or his life really. I find his pre-hero stuff much more interesting. That last letter where he basically compared himself to a newspaper writer sums it up well for me. He is not vested in these characters to the point collectors often do. That is sort of refreshing in a world where people tend to milk to death whatever the public finds entertaining, typically well past it jumping the shark. Keep the responses coming* -- I'm sure there are more out there. Someday, someone should put together a compilation "From the desk of S. Ditko" PS-- * that wasn't an endorsement to keep writing to the guy-- but if you got a response, please share it.
  12. It would annoy me to have someone tell me $1 per book and then pull the old price lookup on ebay routine after I spent time going through a bunch of comics. Not sure how I would respond but it would not be very friendly. Maybe I would find the absolute worst books in the lot and see if they priced those too. That way they would waste a ton of time looking them up after I left in a huff.
  13. Not to worry-- plenty of ASM 14's in 9.0 and above that he hasn't defaced yet.
  14. Goom is a dead beat dad! Pay your child support, you monster!
  15. I've seen that ridiculous Liefeld before-- did he also draw the bloated cap too?
  16. Random- the Thor 137 looks really out of place with those other books.
  17. Captain America looks like his chest is about to pop
  18. Dear Mr. Ditko, I never thought that I would be writing this, but sometimes, life can get pretty crazy. I’m a 51-year-old guy, and I’m pretty well built, muscular but not ripped. Last spring break, me and my friends took a trip to Lake Havasu. At a drinking contest on the beach one day, I met a girl named Kimmi, and she was gorgeous – blond, tan, possessing breasts and attractive legs. Well, one thing led to another and we found ourselves back in her hotel room, going at it pretty hot and heavy. She taught me things I’d never even thought of, and the sex was incredible. Kimmi was a very experienced girl. So experienced that my doctor says I have a heretofore-undiscovered strain of chlamydia (picture enclosed). Yours Truly, 01TheDude
  19. If it was Overstreet he was referring to, I thought Chuck's whole business plan revolved around selling books at 3x or 4x OSPG. What would he do without them?
