I agree with the majority. I have a book that presents like a 7.5, but has moderate water damage/tide lines at the top of the book...it graded @ a 5.0. I think this book may fall into the same category, nice book with a couple severe defects.

I hope whatever they do is better than the last few...wasn't that impressed.

Graded books only, but I discovered this the other day via Facebook ad. Search function is great! It gives a good overview of what books in all grades have and are currently selling for on Ebay and a few other auction venues. I like it and it's FREE.

@Comic Consortium They were at "Grading/Quality Control" for 2 business days and then went to "Finalized/Imaged/Shipped" on the third day. I didn't see grades until FIS.

Whether a book has been pressed or not has no bearing on whether it will upgrade or not. A pressed book can have defects introduced into the book than an unpressed book doesn't have.
I assume this was meant to be a generalization, but I have to disagree with your core argument here. The "upgrade" is the point of pressing...unless the owner presses purely for aesthetics and keeps the book raw. Of course there is no guarantee of an "upgrade", but pressing absolutely has bearing on the likelihood of the bump.
It's very true that pressing can introduce defects, but that's a very small minority when considering the total number of books pressed on the daily. Aside from my first submission before pressing was a thing (and 3 moderns I sent to another company), every one of my self-submitted books are CPR'd. In every case to date, the books came back higher than my assigned grade or the previously assigned CGC grades in the case of crack, press and re-sub books. My experiences may be an anomaly, but it's a consistent one if it is.

You might find this thread interesting. It has a discussion of some pressing results and damage caused by pressing.

CGC is the only place ide consider for pressing. I look at it like this, if I wanted the book badly enough to budget for it, track it down, buy it and then get it pressed then its worth spending the money to have it done professionally. Now if it was a case of a mid range book that had some sort of sentimental value then that would be different I think.
Thank you for your response
(No offense to anyone who presses)
If I were you, I would explore ALL of your options. Bigger isn't always better...just sayin'.

Simple answer...yes. If you're going to submit to CGC, always press. This is my opinion, of course. Aside from my first submission to CGC (before pressing was a thing) I've CPR'd every book sent for grading. I've gained a lot from it. I had one cracked 4.0 go to a 6.5 with CPR. I've also submitted to other services which can not be named and had those books pressed as well. Of all the books I've submitted, only 3 books didn't "need" a press. They were moderns (2014 and 2015 I think)...2 came back 9.6, one 9.8. (I generally only submit bronze and older.)
I figure if your going to spend the money purchasing, shipping and grading, why not spend a few extra dollars to ensure you submit the books in the best condition they can be.

@oldrover Technically, shouldn't you be getting a graded book back? Small consolation, but its better than a poke in the eye.
⬆️This guy⬆️ has a valid point as well! Free grading....

I mean this all has to be in eBay emails... don't think that it would fly..
I'm in total agreement here! The book is no longer in his posession...that's a slam dunk IMHO.

I agree. The book is rough. Staining or foxing inside as well. Tough to grade in this condition, as grading becomes very subjective here...even at CGC. I think I would have to be in the 2.0-2.5 camp for purchase purposes. If you grade it and get a 3.0...bonus!
-
Man, that's a clean book. Give it CPR and I would be at a 6.5...maybe a 7.0...unless I'm missing something.

Nice thread resurrection.! It's amazing to me how the general attitude of most collectors has changed. Pressing is now...dare I say...the norm. I find the "8.5 to 9.2" value claim interesting as well. I was one of those 9.2 buyers when I fist started collecting graded books in the early 2000's. I had a pretty good stash of run books...no keys to speak of. From my perspective, I wish I would have purchased high grades...9.6 plus. Essentially, monetarily, I've actually lost money on most of the 9.2's.They aren't really worth much more than it costs to grade a book today. If all of those purchases were 9.6 or higher...I'd at least be at even money...
