    Getting close!!!!

So far - pulled and priced 1500 new books for the show - gonna keep plugging as I want to get as much of the value stock there as I can. This is a medium show - not the pomp of WW or C2E2 - but much larger than a hotel hall or VFW ( last year 6000 people through the door).  The time frame is much better this year too - the show used to be the week after WW....

They are letting any vendor open Friday night this year - last year it was limited to only about 10 of us. They are running a costume party - so not the best lighting for comic hunting, but will be the best time to scrounge for the hidden gems.

    Guest list to date -

I think it will modestly be taken into consideration by the graders, however, I do not think they will be 'hammered'.

THANKS - Just so much easier when it is like AJD's example, lol.... that full bloom tanning is something I would not expect in any higher grade book ( and I hammer that  when I grade) --- just such a FMV drop for these if many of the "9.4" candidates drop to a 9.0 ( or lower)..... and I like to do my homework when I am not sure...

I submitted an ASM #46 not long ago (got it back in August) with the exact same tanning scenario.  Nothing on the front cover but light tanning on the interior cover.  When I sent it in I thought it was an 8.5 not taking the tanning into account.  It came back an 8.5 so I feel like it won't be hit too hard by graders. But I've been wrong before (once).

thx - I have not gone through the whole lot - and I think this is one of the worst ones. Have to re-check overstreet when I get home - but I believe their general notes do not give me enough detail to be sure. More overall page quality - and not this...  ( and their examples are cover pics - not interior pics, lol).

The seller is saying close to the same thing - that the color alone is not as important as the page quality ( and I have seen CR-OW 9.6 CGC books) - while I generally agree ( and feel it is a buyers preference for this kind of issue) , I usually do not get the hi grade silvers in so seeing this worries me, lol - and want to be more confident as there is a huge difference in 9.2/9.4 and 8/8.5

quick edit/question - did they mention the tanning in the graders notes????

  4. Purchased some "hi grade" silver books - on many, the exterior.

This was an ebay purchase - I am protected if I want to return - but I would like to know more about this defect to see if we can work something out without the hassle.

Exterior - no sign of tanning. Interior - the start of a tan window.  Books are supposedly 9.2/9.4 - and on the outside do seem to be in that range. Pages are all supple - so the very worst of them might be CR-OW.

How bad is this? looking for general feel of how CGC may or may not hammer the grade.....59ceb4ba25806_tanning1.thumb.jpg.2a55e87b5eff59d36aa57a35da163645.jpgIMG_5283.thumb.JPG.64e44572cf33f8c78d8ffef73fb4036c.JPG

Actually, now that I'm messing with this slab some more, it seems like only the sides are sealed (no room to get my fingernail in there - maybe glued?).

Sonic welded - basically using directed acoustical vibrations to melt the two pieces of plastic together. Very strong if properly done.

  6. I am there for my 3rd year!

It is a really fun show - a mixed bag for comics. They get a large amount of people through the doors - but I have not seen that many big $$$ buyers there. Past 2 years - they have set up the week after wizard world - so understandable that a lot of $$$ is sucked out of the area.

My first year - I was the only one there with slabs ( though a couple of people had some nice higher value books).  Last year - maybe 2 of us ( another boardie lurker was there).  Sold a few of the lower value ones last year - had some bigger books under lock and key  (golden age and high grade silver) - that got a look or two, but not even a nibble of an offer ( and some were very reasonably priced).

There are also many of the "non comics" booths set up.

definitely a great value for the price.

Some one asked me last year about any facilitators - have not seen anything with respect to CGC . The  guest list - is always interesting, but not the big hitter names that would will have a need for CGC to be there ( though I see that voldy is setting up something).

Success rate - may be based on what you bring and the price. One of the larger local stores ( dreamland) - brought in mostly pops, and their manager said they did their best show ever. Pops... ( they had a huge selection and commons were likely discounted)....

Hopefully the timing between WW and this - work out well this year for drawing in more collectors. My main goal is moving as much of the bulk low end out the door, but it helps to have people buying the bigger ticket items as well......

Stop by and say hi!  Heck --- any boardies -- the same - CGCers get the "Sunday evening" discount pretty much anytime.

    What happened?

Ron C had offerred to change his offered prize then realized it would be unfair to those who already picked.  It was a nice thought and Ron realized it was better to leave his prize offer as is.

His listed prize - IMO - is better than what he added as the alternate anyway ----

FYI - the xmen 60 I offered - "pretty good shape" --- not really the best description - as it sits - likely a 7.0 - the cover has 4 indentations from something sitting on it - if you are a pressing type of person, this could be 8.5 maybe 9.0 ( slightly rounded corners and a small crease lower right corner)

  8. the seller did package like a fool - but also offered a return...... I see too much back an forth. After his first message - I would have simply stated that an item not as described case would be opened - asking for the $15 ( or whatever)  re-holder fee ( and you should be able to add images). Explain simply that the cost for return shipping would be more than this.

If they know what they are doing - they refund the fee. IF not - ebay will force a return - - or you might be given the option to keep it. Then neg them.

Keep it simple. Good sellers will take care of the issue, clueless ones will lose a lot of $$$ in return fees and bad rep.....

should just get the bags and boards from diamond.

actually think it's cheaper per bag and board with diamond.

Could be - no idea what diamond charges - as an example though - if you order direct through BCW for something like shortboxes - you can get 10 for 2.63 each ( this is anybody) .... the wholesale account - is about 30% less.  Some obvious drawbacks - large order for free shipping and you have to deliver to a commercial address, but cheap ( to me ).......
