  1. And I have always disliked the variants that had nothing to do with Spidey
  2. There are so many nice variants, that is the reason I started to collect them. For some reason the 526 variant is the only one I am still missing. Never saw it in NM+ condition. I nearly quit when the ASM25 (v4) 1:1000 was released, but then someone offered it to me at a fair price. Looking back , I think I like the Quesada variants the best.
  3. Could anybody give me an indication of the value of professionally restored AF15's in the range of CGC 6.0 - 9.0? I noticed a PGX 9.6 moderate sold for 25K recently on eBay and I have no clue how to compare this to CGC thx, Elmer
  4. congrats to all. If anybody has a lead on an ASM 2 8.5 or 9.0, please let me know!
  5. Hi anybody willing to part with their ASM2 in CGC 8.5 or 9.0 for a good price, without any fees? Please PM me. Best, E. BTW, I have a US shipping address if that is preferred
  6. The ASM546 book market variant goes for 'just' a couple of hundred. It is not that difficult too find and there seems to be relatively little demand for it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-546-BOOK-MARKET-VARIANT-HTF-RARE-MARVEL-COMICS-/112365494685?hash=item1a2981619d:g:Q5cAAOSwXYtY4XyI
  7. , I have know what this means for ASM800
  8. what is happening with the 1:1000 in the copper/modern sales thread?
  9. +1, although higher prices would be expected if compared to the other ASM sales. That makes it all the more interesting to see if the prices that were paid for the CVA - Pedigree will stick or not. There may be a little hope left :-) ASM2 in CGC9.0 is all I need to complete a Top 10 in 9.0 (although I have settled for a #1 in 8.5)
  10. I like the Venomized and Immonen variants and I also think the Kirkham variant is nice, but the 1:1000 doesn't make an impression on me, other than that it will be rare and may become more difficult to find than the ASM678
  11. +1, amazing book. congrats to seller and buyer
  12. I still feel that it is the label which is being bought and not the book. There are plenty of 7.5's with more appeal than this book.
  13. Actually, as for the super simple stories: even though I am now much older now, I still long for the days of IH 194-283, X-Men 94-167 and ASM up to 251. But maybe that says more about me than what Marvel should do.
  14. Are there any more AF15's coming?
  15. I fully agree with your terms for payment. Hard to check, but logical
  16. And it has the ugly Stan Lee signature, so unsigned copies are probably worth more
  17. It depends on what you call winning. Because of this book I decided to follow some advice over here: quit collecting moderns, focus on the few pre-700 books I am missing, lose all I have on Superior Spider-man and the subsequent ASM titles and possibly start collecting IH102-346.
  18. I am one of those people that focuses solely on the ASM title and who has invested a lot of time and money to get a near-complete collection: newsstands, direct editions, variants, even the insane number of 140+ variants of ASM666. When the 1:1000 variants started to appear, I worried that eventually there would be one of these ratio-variants for ASM. Now I ask myself the question: do I want to spend such a lot of money on this book instead of a upgrade of one of my Silver Age books? And if I do, will I be able to find one? And if I find one and spend all this money, what will be next? Another relaunch with 50+ variants? A 1:2000 variant which will cost even more? And if I don't find this variant or I am not willing to pay this money, is there any reason to continue my collection or should I break it off at ASM328, ASM441, ASM700, SS31, ASM18 or ASMRYV5? Or should I stop collecting variants, get rid of all variants I have and just continue with the regulars? I really don't understand why Marvel does this. The ratio is such that it will not gain them a lot of extra orders. On the contrary, it makes completists like me start to think whether it is better to stop collecting variants or the series altogether. That can't hardly be the intention of Marvel, can it?
  19. Absolutely marvelous book! Eye appeal and grade are pretty inconsistent if you ask me!
  20. I want to make a brief follow-up on this question I asked. I continued the discussion which consisted of over 170 (!) mails between 17 April and 6 May and which ultimately resulted in... nothing. What followed were endless negotations and changing terms by the seller. His behaviour is erratic to say the least: he switches from being insulting to flattering and he ends and reopens discussion all the time. Also his terms go up and down quicker than I could follow. Often I received 3 or more contradicting mails before I even had chance to respond to the first. What also complicated matters is that it was a 7 book deal and sometimes he was OK with that, on other occassions he wanted some of the books out, on yet other occassions he wanted to wanted freebies to be put in the deal etc etc.The biggest obstacle was that the deal involved my signed ASM666 MAC copy. I would have to send it before he would send his books. I was uncomfortable with that. Sending the book would mean a difficult to fill gap in my collection in case Matt Brennan would let me down. And as you may understand my trust in this mr Brennan was not so high. But as his eBay record is quite OK and I really wanted those books, in the end we came to a deal: $1300 for an ASM666 MAC which should be a 9.6/9.8 candidate, and 6 ASM newsstand edtions. I would pay the money, I would send my signed ASM666 MAC and then he would send the books to a San Diego address. At that time, we both went on holidays. After my holiday I tried to pay, but as I could not get a San Diego address directly linked to my PayPal account (and I wanted that due to Insurance), I asked if he could send the books directly to the Netherlands if I would take care of the shipping costs. At first he refused, than he accepted and asked for two separate terms: first the $1300 and then later the shipping costs. I hesitated on this, saying I had never experienced a construction like that. He then ended the deal, saying he needed the money for his holiday, that this was part of the deal (which was a lie, that was never discusse in any of the e-mails) and since he wouldn't receive the money before the end of his holidays, the deal was off. The same day he changed his mind and he wanted $100 for shipping. It was clear that he hadn't checked anything with the post, so I didn't go there. Yet later he claimed that shipping would be $140 which I can tell from my experience, is a lie. After his holiday, mr Brennan came back to me and ofered me the same books for $2K, which means a $700 price increase within a week. After 170+ e-mails I was tired of the discussion and I finally let it go. Only this mr Brennan is like piranha. He doesn't let go and still stalks me with e-mails. During all this discussion, at some time it struck me that the language of this mr Brennan is quite similar to that of Seerojas, an eBay fraud that deals in the same type of books and that I have had problems with before, which were also reported on this forum. Could it be that the two profiles belong to the same person and that he uses one for establishing a good reputation and the other for closing shady deals? My advice to any of you: stay away from Matt Brennan (comichunter114@gmail.com) / SpideyCollectibles (comichunter114@gmail.com) / Thecomicnewsstand (= eBay-ID). Do you think this is the correct place on the forum to report this? On 20 april 2015 and 6 May 2015 I posted in this forum my experience about a deal gone wrong with Matt Brennan (comichunter114@gmail.com) / SpideyCollectibles (comichunter114@gmail.com) / Thecomicnewsstand (= eBay-ID). I told boardies that after a great many mails, conditions that seemed to change continuously and deals that were revoked, I was doubting the reliability of mr Brennan, despite his good eBay-record. What also played a part was that due to the books offered and the language used in the e-mails, I suspected that this person might be the same as Seerojas, who had tricked me in the past. In my last post I adviced everybody to stay way from mr Brennan. However, recently we entered another discussion and due to the rarity of the books offered, I decided to take the gamble. Mr Brennan has not let me down. I am happy with the books and I am convinced that he is not Seerojas. As a consequence, I want to rectify my previous posts which I would have deleted if possible.
  21. I must say this book has amazing appeal to me. I know the discussion about the rusty staple, but to be honest, I like this book better than the 7.5 that had so much discussion recently
  22. Yes, I remember that chromium cover well, it was one of my favourite covers of the 90's. But the series was such a big let-down, nothing will make me return to it.
  23. I understand your feeling. Each time I see a yellow label I think: 'that's one blue label less...' I like the Scott Campbell signature, but IMHO some of the others just ruin the covers. But to be honest, I don't understand the preference of many for 9.8's. Sometimes I fall for this too. Hell, there was even a time I could hardly enjoy my ASM667 Del'Otto because it has a fine scratch in the blue at the back, which will probably reduce the grade from 9.8 to quite a bit less. And the stupid thing is that because the book is in a mylar L-sleeve, within a 2 mil mylar sleeve and fullback board, I never see this scratch at all! But most of the time I look at my early ASM raw copies and I am really happy with them, even though they might only be an 8.5 or something. And besides, I have so often been disappointed with my 9.8's. Often they look worse than many 9.6 books I have. I feel the 9.0 and 9.2 grades should be combined, as well as the 9.4 and 9.6 grades should be eliminated. These days, I crack out the 9.8's I buy below $100, and because I do that I am now one of these people that prefer 9.6 books. Sorry for this contribution. To make up, once more my ASM667 Del'Otto. Wander what you think about the grade (although that is also something for another thread?
