  1. I have heard similar rumours as well nothing ever verified or proven.. Josh once came on this site and addressed the problem of shill bidding and specifically said it was forbidden and anybody caught doing it would be punished (I can't remember what it was but maybe banning them from the site) so I think he takes it very seriously on Clink. But there is nothing to stop your friend from bidding on your books. The only danger/consequence there is that if you (or your friend) end up winning it, you are paying for the book and out the 10% commission.
  2. Trust me, you don't need shill bidders to crush GPA records at the major auction houses. I'm just one of many sellers able to do it for the past ten years now. I think that certain genres of scarce and sought after material are still selling well. I just went through selling 71 Marvel early bronze age ultra high grade books at auction in March (not via Heritage), and the results once again exceeded expectations based on GPA and other market sources. With everyone at home with little to do, auctions are getting a lot of attention and eyeballs these days. I was speaking to the propensity of some being unscrupulous and not how to achieve record numbers. I have had offers of people wanting to bid my auctions up for me. I've always said only bid what you're willing to pay and I've even stated numerous times on here how my auctions seemed to take their time to build in any site while comparable books reach a large percentage of fair market value early on. But I agree that if you have poor products no amount of shill bidding will set records. As I said earlier, some people are buying furiously right now.
  3. There is a thread though, dedicated to showing off your Flash books. Link below:
  4. That's a great looking copy of a tough book!
  5. Obviously you should have looked in Ontario first.
  6. Packages are much slower in Canada as well. An 'overnight' package took 3 business days. I would tell all buyers to understand that these are exceptionally difficult times and to expect delays. Employees are likely taking extra precautions and trying to practice social distancing no doubt. I can't imagine some buyer being so impatient in a time like this that they would file a complaint. Unbelievable.
  7. The Shooting Star comics on Yonge and Finch was downstairs. Maybe that's what you were thinking of?
  8. Now apparently THAT was a store. Some of the treasures that came through that place were apparently legendary but it was before my time in Kitchener. Andy the former manager of Now And Then now runs Carry On Comics in Waterloo.
  9. There's nothing to stop someone getting their 'friend' to bid a comic up on any auction site and there is no way for an auction house to prevent it.
  10. Paperheart pointed to a NYT article that did the math. 430,000 arrived in the US from China since China announced the outbreak 40,000 arrived in the US since the 'ban' that was imposed which was actually more of a restriction and not a ban
  11. Actually, I'd read that China now admitted to not reporting asymptomatic cases and some other stuff. But that might just be a smoke screen for poor reporting in general or fudging the numbers. I'll bet their actual numbers are multiples of what they show as their official numbers. There were reports a few weeks ago of as many as 40,000 urns being delivered to funeral services. A far cry from the 3000 or so officially listed as passed away.
  12. Was the 2nd Snail location on Yonge St? I seem to remember that the store I was at was on Keewatin between Yonge and Mt. Pleasant. My grandparents dropped me off there one Sat afternoon. I was probably 14 and it blew my mind to see Silver Age comics on the wall. Jimmy and his Mrs. are still together 30 years later. I used to work at VW Richmond Hill back in 1989 and would walk down to his Richmond Hill store every Friday with a fresh paycheck. A few years ago I somehow randomly found his latest store was in Richmond Hill and that he was still in business, just north of his old location from the 1980's in a strip mall. We recognized each other after not seeing each other for exactly 30 years. It was surreal and he hadn't changed a bit. I used to be one of his best customers for a while and it was nice to see them. Not sure if he is still there.
  13. Strangely, I don't remember the store either although by the early 90's was dropping out of comics for a time but I did spend a lot of time there on the Danforth. Does anyone remember a comic book store on Keewatin between Yonge and Mt. Pleasant just north of Eglinton? I know there was one there that I visited in the mid 1980's but can't remember the name of it. My 'go to' store was Shooting Star Comics - two locations on Yonge St. One at Young and Finch area in North York and one up in Richmond Hill north of Major Mackenzie. That was my primary store in the late 80's.
