  1. I've had some really voluminous posters on ignore for years, so I'm aware of how it looks. Most people have no idea who I'm ignoring, which is how it should be. I genuinely appreciate you saying what you did. Thank you. I appreciate opposing points of view as well, as long as they're respectful. And we absolutely can agree to disagree. The only reason this conversation was still going was because you called me a slur in an effort to shut the conversation down. That's not agreeing to disagree. That's hitting below the belt. To agree to disagree means you just say "agree to disagree" and then leave the discussion without the color commentary. See how different those two replies are and how different their outcomes can be?
  2. I'm not going to counter anything you said about me because you're entitled to your opinion, but I do want to touch on this: There are MANY more people reading threads than replying in them, so how many people reply in a thread is not an indicator of who is interested or reading the thread. It's nothing more than an indicator of who is replying, and when detractors reply in an antagonistic manner, that prevents interested people from replying even more. I know because I've gotten messages from people in my DMs here, and even had people walk up to me at conventions specifically to encourage me to keep posting because they enjoy reading my points. If this means I'm having the last word, I'm genuinely not trying to. I just think this is a fatal mistake many people make. Anyway, I'm genuinely sorry you feel the way you do. And I'll take the hit for not allowing that last post of yours from being the last word but I genuinely thought this was worth addressing.
  3. Don't waste 2.5 hours of your time with 'Marvels' movie. For good Brie well written/directed by BJ Novak, try season 1 of 'Lessons in Chemistry.' 8 episodes streamed so far with each episode getting better. Still has some female empowerment so u will feel it may be tangentially MCU. Unfortunately the Marvels movie had some great discussion in it before it was locked when it was derailed.
  4. Nope. @piper The entire thing started when I posted a movie thread unrelated to comics, and my known antagonists (ie stalkers) started appearing in it. Shortly after that, my thread was moved to the Watercooler. The thread was probably moved to the WC on the urging of some of my antagonists, who know I can't go to the Watercooler (I've been banned from it). Then, right after my thread was moved, Mike put a sticky note at the top of the Movies forum to explain that no more "non-comic" movies are allowed and made it mandatory to get Moderation approval before starting a thread. Pretty heavy handed, but that always seems to happen when I'm around. Yet, right after that, I personally counted at least 12 different non-comic movie threads so I asked why they were allowed and only mine was removed. This prompted a public discussion about what to do - stop allowing non-comic movie threads and keep it in the Comics forum, or allow all movie threads and move the sub-forum to "General Discussion". There was a discussion and a vote and most people agreed it was best to allow all movie discussions and move it to this new General Discussion forum. Very much appropriate, fair and consistent with moderation's policies.
  5. Sounds like you have a sore throat. Some tea with lemon and honey maybe? I've actually spoken to people who have seen the movie, and being a huge Ridley Scott fan, I was excited to see it but I may no longer see it in the theater. The one film critic I would listen to is a friend of mine who is a long time movie fan and collects movie memorabilia and he was disappointed that the movie was neither historically accurate nor did it represent Napoleon as he was historically represented. For example, from what I've read there is no record that Napoleon fired on the pyramids. And from what I've gleaned about the movie and about Napoleon, he's portrayed as a dark, brooding figure in the movie while historically being a much more charismatic figure in real life. I'm on the fence at this point.
  6. It's only politics if you talk about politics. Talking about why a movie isn't successful in terms of financials isn't politics.
  7. Nobody is tired of this drum beating. But everyone is tired of me explaining why it's beating this way.
  8. Dude, I EXPOUNDED on the points I made earlier by bringing fresh material that built on the old material. Do you really think telling someone to stop is the right way to stop a conversation? Maybe you've been brainwashed into thinking this is proper etiquette but it's not out in the real world. The right way is to ignore what you don't like. You don't get to tell people on the internet how to post. I'm going to stop responding to you. You can have the last word.
  9. Can you imagine a 15 year, 25 movie story arc, building up the Fantastic Four and the X-men meeting in a final showdown against some great villain team up like Thanos, only replaced by Doom? Everyone would love it. Almost nobody would complain, just like almost nobody complained about the Avengers story arc that culminated in End Game. It's almost like the entire planet is brainwashed to want to ruin everything on purpose. So strange.
  10. It was a GREAT purchase, but what has changed since then is that the cultural marketplace has changed and Disney hasn't adapted. If they had made traditional movies in the traditional MCU way, they'd be raking in $100's of millions or even $1 Billion per movie. They left the traditional formula, people are voting with their dollars and they are still pounding the wrong drum beat.
  11. You told me to stop posting because you're tired of it. If that's not asking someone to change what you can't accept, what is? I'm here for polite conversation about things I find interesting. If you don't find the conversation interesting, then stop responding and put people on ignore rather than demanding people conform to you.
  12. I've read that Disney has lost close to a $1Billion this year, has had 4 out of 5 movies flop and is losing 300K subscribers a month for consecutive months. Maybe it's time to change the formula?
  13. Well, you two are now starting to see what I've been talking about. Disney cares NOTHING about the art form. It's just catering for dollars. Dude, ANYTHING can be made do work. You just need to do it well. Buscema and Byrne made Reed's powers always look amazing. You just need the right source material. On a VERY interesting side note, my friend used to own the comic book store that a lot of the MCU actors and staff would get their reference material from and he would spend a lot of time discussing these things with them. The store owner was a lifetime comic book person. True story. They sold the store a few years ago and the new owners seem to have little interest in the old comic history and are very much caught up in the new era of comics. I wonder how much this has affected the flavor of the movies.
  14. Wait, let me understand this: You just said you choose to accept what you can't change but then you ask people other than yourself to change what you can't accept? Now THAT'S lipstick on a pig. If the free market of ideas isn't your friend, than the ignore feature is going to have to be. There's no middle ground here. Have a good one!
  15. Not every choice can be correct. You basically called me a conspiracy theorist. If someone has the belief that they have to accept everything thrown at them, then that's not a winner's attitude and if it's not a winner's attitude, what is it? I'm not cut from that cloth. ------------------------------- You brought in Aristotle so I'll bring in some Ancient history. One of my favorite inspirational phrases is attributed to Hannibal the Carthaginian General, who uttered the phrase when he was told it was impossible to cross the Alps by elephant. The Latin phrase "Inveniam viam aut faciam" translates into "I shall find a way or make one" From Wiki: Hannibal's crossing of the Alps in 218 BC was one of the major events of the Second Punic War, and one of the most celebrated achievements of any military force in ancient warfare.
  16. "That's the way it is - whatever" is only the way it is if people choose to accept it. Hitler only rose to power because the general population in Germany accepted it and didn't oppose it. That's why the entire country accepts responsibility today for it. Very different than when a dictator takes over against he will of the people through force and only the dictator is held accountable. Your choices do matter, every day. I didn't call you a loser. I said just branding something as "conspiracy theory" without explaining why, and having a "roll over and die" attitude is a loser's attitude. Animals roll over and throw their bellies into the air when they give up. That's a loser's attitude.
  17. Anyone that has been following the hobby for more than 10 years will remember the "flaming wreckage" post 2007-08 when stock markets tanked, liquidity tightened up around the world and ENTIRE COUNTRIES were going bankrupt. We found at least 3 major Pedigrees during that time as people were liquidating their collections. Billy Wright, Sucha News and one other (can't remember which one right now). People still made money in that market while others were losing, and it was quite literally a "flaming wreckage" at the time, relatively speaking of course, since higher prices and more volatility will create larger price swings, but 2009-2012 were no laughing matter and a lot of people here thought the end was nigh.
  18. Why would you go straight to a smear without showing ANY proof of your claim, except to try to discredit the source so you don't have to discuss the topic? That's a loser's attitude but understandable considering you've already told everyone to conform or die. I have already shown my work with immutable proof in many ways, and yet rather than try to dispute my longform work which is clearly there for anyone to do, you just threw out an insult with no other purpose than to smear the messenger. Either discredit the message using logic, or not. If people that believe what you espouse had their borders stormed by enemy forces, they'd be handing over their women and children using this philosophy.
  19. He's second only to William Ekgren for famed interior work. You missed my point. Old school collectors used to hunt down everything their favorite creators did, no matter how small it was. As an example, my friend who owns Carry On Comics collected everything Neal Adams in multiples right down to an Archie panel Adams did. He had 4 copies of everything. Collectors no longer collect interior work like they used to. Even if it wasn't common, L.B. Cole did do interior work and this would have been sought after by older collectors. Today, relatively few people collect comics for their interiors and yes, L.B. Cole was always popular, but demand has been driven exponentially mostly due to the way society has changed due to the internet age, which the slabbing market is a large part of.
  20. Interestingly enough, the William Elkgram story starts at Now And Then in Kitchener. Dave Sim also had his first works published through that store and I believe still lives not far. My best friend of 25 years managed that store and now runs his own store (Carry On Comics in Waterloo). An incredible amount of material went through that store. The stories are surreal to hear today and dealers from all over the area would show up whenever Harry had a new collection in. That store was a Canadian comic book store staple until Harry died in a car crash tragically.
  21. How many L.B. Cole Graphic novels are being published as we speak?
