  1. Alter Bridge would be a suitably safe replacement there. Oh my god...yes... another pretentious bunch of twits. Myles Kennedy is beyond reproach! And Tremonti is an awesome guitarist. Tremonti concert solo is like EVH without any creativity or soul. I just don't get this band. Slick, studio sound, Creed like posturing, poor-tortured-me lyrics... Ugh... Not my thing at all. You mean it's like a classical violin virtuoso? I agree. I don't know if I'd say it isn't creative. Soulful I can see, especially if you're not hearing the blues, but well crafted, technical music can still move people. The Baroque period (what some might call 'without soul' because it was extremely technical in nature) was very different from the Romantic era (which was all soul) but both have their merits. It's just different IMO. Now back to choosing stage costumes!
  2. It's going to be diverse. All guitar oriented rock, some heavy, some a bit less heavy. Like I said earlier, we'll try to do something from every decade from the 1960's to this decade. Any band I go see I want to be surprised by the experience. Knowing what to expect takes away from the entertainment experience IMO. Just show up! Hopefully it's a good surprise. I'm still trying to decide on wardrobe. Maybe a wardrobe change between songs? That should give this thread legs. Set list: YYZ - Rush Eruption - VH Frankenstein - Edgar Winter Surfing with the Alien - Joe Satriani Interstellar Overdrive -Pink Floyd Moby - Led Zepplin The Call of Ktulu - Metallica That's a very doable set list. I'll suggest it!

And not only is he considered one of the top shredders of the last decade or so, but he's also a very good songwriter. He's got a great sense of melody to his song writing and playing. That's really hard to do, especially when you can play as fast as he does.

  7. no Chicago bball??? If we were to play we could play Saturday morning. Do you want mt to start organizing for Sat? hasn't it always been Friday morning? don't think Saturday works with con opening at 9-10? +1 There are plenty of people who will want to play. You guys should have no problem playing Friday morning. I just won't be able to make it.
  8. no Chicago bball??? If we were to play we could play Saturday morning. Do you want mt to start organizing for Sat? hasn't it always been Friday morning? don't think Saturday works with con opening at 9-10? It usually is but with the band going on Friday night, I can't play Friday morning now. So if you guys want to get a game going I'm sure lots of people will want to play. I just can't. what does Friday night have to do with Friday morning? Tired body, tired voice. It's the one drawback with singing, especially songs that are tough to do or at the end of your vocal range. A guitar you can just turn up an amplifier for more volume or change a string if it's broken. With the voice, it's directly affected by how the rest of the body feels so if I'm dehydrated or tired I can't sing after playing basketball for two hours. It sounds diva-ish but it's actually common with many singers, especially as they age. I once heard it in a Scott Weiland interview and remembered thinking it was just me until I realized that a lot of people have the same issue. Celine Dion used to go for days without speaking before a show. Not that I think I'm Celine Dion. Oh yeah, and Bob's post.
  9. I'll have to run that past the group but I personally think we should keep it under wraps. More exciting that way. If you like guitar oriented rock, we'll be playing a song or two from almost each decade from the 1960's to the present.
  10. Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Sabbath. That sort of classic rock. If you can get Zeppelin to reunite for this "multimedia event", I'm in. Yeah, I gave Plant a call but they were too busy to make the show. Funny joke. I was texting with John and he sent me a text stating "Just spoke to Ozzy and he said he's in Chicago that weekend and said he wants to come by the show." I'm in full freakout mode as I'm a lifelong Ozzy fan since probably 1981. He then follows up with a 'just kidding' text.

  12. You are never to old to rock. I've got 20 years on Roy and I still play in a rock-a-billy band. I do have a shirt on and don't wear leather pants though. Go for it Roy and make sure you post a song or two on the boards for the rest of us old rock geezers! Thanks! I'm going to try to video record the show.
  13. Oh, I passed my midlife crisis over a decade ago. I'm now headed into senior citizen insanity that comes with too many burned out brain cells. But seriously folks, we're super excited about this. We've been trying to get it off the ground since last summer. Matt is a great guitar player. John D. is looking forward to play some music that he rarely gets a chance to play. I'm the noob here so here's hoping it goes half decent. I like to sing but hopefully more comes out of my mouth than just joyful noises.
  14. Hopefully he doesn't read this thread and see that you misspelled his name. Fixed!

  16. Hey, let's face the music. There are very few comic book shows that are exclusively comic book shows anymore. May as well make the best of it!
  17. John offered me $100 to perform topless. I'm still workin' on my fitness for that C note.
  18. We've got a new angle to make the show a bit more exciting. Wizard has been trying to get musical acts to spice up their shows, which let's face it have become multi media events. You may have remembered a discussion in another thread about us playing a live show. Wizard was unable to find a venue for us in time so we had cancelled the gig. Well, this weekend we managed to find a venue to host our show so we're putting on a show on August 19th at the Adobe Gilas Mexican Cantina. Adobe Gilas is in the MB Financial entertainment complex just a few minutes walking distance from the Donald Stephens convention center where the show is held. MB Financial Park Rosemont The venue is a dinner place with dance floor after 10:30. they have capacity for up to 400 people so space should be fine. We're going on at 9:15 (ish - hopefully nobody pulls an Axl Rose) and doing a roughly 1 hour cover gig with some classic rock songs that you all should know. I'll be singing. John Dolmayan (from System Of A Down) is on drums. Matt Nelson is on guitar. Simon Bisley, famed artist from the UK is supposed to play a song or two on bass. John has a bassist (still unknown to me) who will do the rest of the songs. Todd Kerns, whose Canadian band called Age of Electric had popularity and radio play in the 1990's and who currently plays bass for Slash in The Conspirators with Myles Kennedy was supposed to fill in on the bass chores but his AOE band and recently reunited and unfortunately he has a gig in British Columbia the following day so was unable to make it to Chicago on short notice. So if you can make it to WW Chicago, try to see if you can make the event and join us for a celebration of classic rock mingled with comics. Now I have some songs to learn.... If anything it should be entertaining! Our flyer.
  19. Wow. Coke...I mean Coke Zero party to follow!!
