  1. Forum went down for everyone for a few mins. Even greggy
  2. GoCollect collects sales data that includes CGC as well as other grading companies. GPA strictly collects CGC data.
  3. They don't estimate comic values from what I know. They simply record completed sales values, just like GP Analysis does.
  4. Makes no sense that proper feedback can't be left. +1 but unfortunately the several attempts to change the system have gone nowhere. It's basically this way because the mods don't want to have to get involved policing feuds.
  5. Realistically, how many problems do we actually have on this chat forum in selling threads? Maybe one or two a week out of literally hundreds of sales threads? And most problems are usually reasonable resolved because the better part of the chat forum is reasonable. You're always going to have someone come in and shake things up as that's the nature of things, but percentage wise this is still a terrific place. We shouldn't focus too much on the negatives. Just use it as an experience to remind ourselves how good this place actually is compared to Facebook, eBay, etc and try not to get jaded. The rules of the free market still need to allowed to operate and that sometimes means you just can't have 'too many' rules to squeeze the life out of this place IMO.
  6. Not to beat a dead horse but I agree. Technically the buyer committed to each book separately and then backed out. But he bought each book BEFORE anybody else claimed it with . So if he DID purchase both books before anybody, both would technically be his if he's forced to buy the other. You can't say he claimed to buy the books, but then say he can't buy one and HAS to the buy the other. He claimed both books via PM but there was no PM sent to jsilverjanet. Then the #11 sold. In the mean time (after the #11 sold) he stated that his PM was only to confirm shipping and Paypal. Technically, the #11 sold fairly and the #12 was still committed to him if jsilverjanet was willing to ship to him and to accept Paypal. And if it was me, personally I'd have followed through and taken the #12 under these circumstances if I was the potential buyer even if I lost the #11. That's the way I see it.

  8. Are assumptions correct here? From what I remember (and correct me if I'm wrong), Greg was involved with Rico. Greg was Frank's (the board member seller's) brother. A few people in the Rochester area (including at least one boardie) allegedly had some books stolen by Greg.
  9. The problem is that it's not a 'Per PM' agreement until you get an affirmation from the seller, which you clearly did not have. Why don't you buy the book that is still available? If you are saying that you simply wanted to confirm shipping and Paypal information then that means you are still committed to the book, right? I offered him the book at less than the original price and less than the current discounted price and he still did not want the book. I wonder why that is? Did he say?
  10. I actually thought the music show was a good idea. Apparently Wizard has been talking about it for a few years now. Music is probably the most popular form of pop-culture so if they're putting on a pop-culture show, which let's face it that's what these shows are, then music should be represented IMO. From what I read, Grimes (I had no idea who she was but apparently she has quite a following in the EDM scene) is performing in Philly for Wizard this year. There's also a live show being planned for WW Chicago. So for it consists of about 5 of us with John Dolmayan from System Of A Down playing drums and a supporting band made up of a few people. We plan on doing a dozen or so cover songs. Mostly heavy rock oriented.

  12. WIZARD WORLD Scaling Back Conventions After $4.25m Loss In 2015 The comic convention franchise Wizard World is scaling back the number of conventions after filing a $4.25 million loss in 2015, according to ICv2. The company, which takes its name from the defunct magazine Wizard, held 25 events in 2015 for a combined revenue of $22.9m, which was less than 2014's convention revenue of $23.1m despite only hosting 17 shows that year. Looking closer, Wizard World's 2015 conventions earned on average $916,000 per show, as opposed to $1.36m in the year prior. Additionally, Wizard World has sold all but 10% ownership of the fledging ConTV to Cinedigm. That venture was a $1.3m loss for WizardWorld in 2015. WizardWorld has 19 conventions planned in 2016, with one being the new 'con cruise' venture.
  13. To be fair, all the books in the sig are also blurry. They probably just went to the Seanfingh school of photography It's likely just a scanner that doesn't do slabs very well. I'd say if someone is interested with the no return policy, they can always ask for better pics. I'd say the seller should be proactive and provide those extra (and hopefully clearer) pics up front Sure, but we all know that most comic book collectors (or many dealers for that matter) are not always the best business people. I mean, the selling world is littered with terrible pictures. eBay, this forum, Facebook (the awesome thumb pics abound on Facebook) and even some dealer's consignments are full of bad pics.

  15. An offer is not bad form as long as it's respectful. Also, the book might be double GPA but is the book severely undergraded? There are some sellers who just plain undergrade their books and even over GPA their prices are bargains.
  16. And that is why I qualify my post by using the term GPA averages and not cherry picking data. I agree with you guys.
  17. The problem is in agreeing what is a 'reasonable' representation of data. For some people GPA is enough. For others it isn't. I had a few common moving books for sale a while back and quoted GPA prices (averages, not cherry picked data). Then someone decided to start posting comments and links to Clink sales prices in my selling thread because apparently the books were going cheaper there and they didn't like my GPA data. I didn't bother checking Comiclink but felt like I was being accused of cherry picking data, which I wasn't. Did I do anything wrong? I don't think so. GPA or GoCollect are both reputable sites that collect large enough quantities of sales data for common books and IMO should be sufficient to please the average buyer. And I just genuinely didn't think to check Clink. I mean, you start with one site and then can go in a zillion different directions and still not please everyone. I thought I was doing my due diligence when I supplied fair, GPA averages. No good deed goes unpunished. I'm fine with GPA or GoCollect data (averages and not just cherry picking) and I'm also OK with a seller not disclosing where he may have gotten a steal on a book he's flipping. Because again, where do you draw the parameters? That's just my personal If I'm spending the dough I expect to do my own homework on a purchase.
  18. It wouldn't. There are many shows on any given weekend all over the country. There are actually 'too many' shows if that can be said IMO. They're stretching the market too thin.
  19. Thanks, gang. While I may have had the odd book for sale without a posted scan if I need a quick Paypal top up, I generally won't sell a book unless I am sure the book will be back in hand within 24 hours and can provide a pic. My stuff generally gets shipped back Fed Ex overnight and I start my sales threads after my books have been shipped back to me and are en route. Now, you can run into problems with pre-sale threads. I once had a book get damaged on it's way back and had to cancel a sale, but I just take that as the cost of doing business as a book can get damaged during shipping at any time. Even on it's way to it's final destination. I agree that sales threads without pics are not optimal and the 'pending scan' way is not my preferred way but as long as they have a return policy in place and allow people to back out of sales if they don't like the scans, it's a reasonable way for the free market to work whether you like it or not.
  20. You have to be joking, please tell me you are joking. If not, you actually think buyers should have to pay more for a pic of the book ? That is not what I said. The pre-sales threads close when then the books are received by the dealer. In most cases, the dealer will get a higher price on any given book through an eBay BIN listing. Hence, the dealer raise in prices. FTR, I have never ran a presales thread, nor do I plan on doing so. But I think you're making the assumption that pre-sale threads are always cheaper than FMV. Are they? I don't think that's necessarily the case.
  21. It would help to acquaint yourself with the rules and customs of the forum instead of attempting to overrule them with your own. Discussions with a seller over their item regarding price are best served in a respectful PM. That way you're treating them with the same respect in their space as you would want for yourself. Fair enough. And I do agree with that in most cases. However, when something is priced 200% above market value, then I have no qualms about posting about it publicly, unless the forum rules say that I shouldn't. Anyways, I'll leave you guys to your discussion. I'm only here to look for good deals on comics. That being said, I am happy to follow the rules of your forum, if non-discussion of pricing is in your rules. Walking into someone's sales thread is no different than walking into someone's store. You wouldn't (well, at least you shouldn't) start arguing about someone's prices in their own store. People are free to ask whatever they want for their items. People are also free to buy them or walk back out of the store. If you want to walk outside the store and talk about a store's pricing with your friends, you are completely free to. Or go into a discussion thread to discuss price. Not in the actual sales thread. Someone asking a lot of money is not 'ripping off'. Ripping someone off is when you sell something that is misrepresented, fraudulent, etc.
  22. Avengers 1 experienced a huge run up already. If it kept growing at the same rates that it grew at leading up to the first Avengers movie, its prices would be at AF 15 levels now. It hasn`t passed B&B 28 because Avengers 1s are a zillion times easier to find than B&B 28s. Agreed. Saw this thread title and was surprised. Have we hit the point were if comics are not doubling evey year we're disappointed?
