  1. Or big numbers are just bringing copies out of the woodwork and collectors are cashing in. That often happens.
  2. If you declare the book as a children's book (which is what the government considers comics) then you are supposed to pay 5% plus whatever brokerage fees are involved. US buyers don't pay customs on comics.
  3. I don't either, but it's inaccurate to state the Showcase 4 only achieved $8900. Jeff; given the amazing results on the 5.0 and 7.5 SC 4's, what happened to the super restored 9.8 which barely got a third of the similarly restored Hulk 1?? I'm scratching my head... Anyone else?? Harry, the answer could be as simple as there wasn't a second bidder that wanted the book as badly.
  4. We used to have a lottery in the early 80's called "The Provincial Lottery" and the jingle was called 'You'll Love Fridays". Every time I hear the word Friday I think of that jingle. Wish I could find a link but I don't see one on YouTube. This one?PROVINCIAL LOTTERY 1983 VERSION 2 by Retrontario(non-blackface version.) No, there was a song where everyone kept repeating "I Love Fridays!" in song, one after another. I can't seem to find it on the internet. That video you posted does seem to be appropriate for this thread though.

  6. I don't know why you would call me a know it all. If anything I have always professed to know relatively little and am in a constant state of learning. You have a sense of immediacy about your posts. It's a discussion, not a contest. I'm here for the discussion, not to prove anyone right or wrong. Your pom-pomming speaks volumes about why you post. The fact that Showcase #4 is soaring to unprecedented heights has no fundamentals in any logic whatsoever IMO. It was a dog book for decades that nobody wanted to pay for and the fact that it's gone up 3-5 times in price is not a good sign IMO. But the helicopter-value-club seems to disagree. Has it overtaken AF #15? For the time being. Am I wrong? Yes. I don't think it's going to stay that way long term. As I said in another thread, if it does we have larger things to worry about than whether Flash is more popular than Spider-man. Ah, the passive aggressive 'enjoy your day'. After taking a stand with a strong offensive rebuttal a polite 'enjoy your day' is the true sign of a civilized conversation. Mark, I should have known better than to reply to you after years of avoiding you. I regret doing so and I'll go back to avoiding you. Apologies for the tangent to the group.
  7. My old teacher told me never to use the word never. I even thought about that when I typed it out.
  8. My goodness folks, the gloating going on in these threads is like Wall Street 2007. Hey, I already admitted earlier in the thread that I was surprised at the price of the 7.5 Personally, I don't believe that one sale a new trend makes but I guess that will depend on how many people decide to run with the new trend. When I want to talk about market strength I prefer to look at trends over several data points and not just selective sales. People have a tendency to extrapolate from selective sales to make their case and form new trends. I've already explained in the AF #15 discussion how AF #15 took off (again) after a few upgradeable copies broke GPA records and the public (or at least future buyers) took those new GPA highs as an indicator of actual demand. People balked at it but the timeline and actual events connect the dots quite clearly. I'm not saying that the SC #4 7.5 from last night was upgradeable but I am saying that the new price point is not realistically fitting into what I know about comics and comic prices. So why do I think it went so high? I'll keep that answer to myself. Do I now think that SC #4 will overtake AF #15? No. I still don't believe it will over all. And this is why RMA called you a noob. You consistently act like one. You consistently post like it's your 1st day around here even though you've been here for years. I even admitted last night that I was surprised at the price of the 7.5 so I have no idea why you'd reply to Ice's quote about me that way. I've never had a problem admitting that I'm wrong and am very open about that quality.
  9. Mostly because it has been done to death... Here are GPA 9.8 trend lines: NM 98 - slightly up versus 24 months, flat for the last 12 IH 181 - solid growth over 24 months, 12 months have most flat until very recently  You're being very selective with your information. The Deadpool movie was announced 19 months ago so of course it's going to go up relatively sharply. The real point here is that the book's average has steadily increased since after the movie pop. Why you're comparing it to Hulk #181 I have no idea. It's like comparing Chuck Norris to Monicca Bellucci.
  10. Color me extremely surprised at what the 7.5 went for.
  11. What I want to know more than anything else is how you found this thread?!?!
  12. If the staple is still attached but paper is popped on one side a 7.0 on an otherwise nice book is a common grade on that defect.
  13. You believe an EP restored Cap 1 could get 125K? I don't have the time to go back through the threads, but aren't you the guy who said the recently found poor condition Action 1 wasn't worth 50K? Even if that book was given the most expensive resto ever performed that would mean you value a restored Cap 1 about 70K more than an equivalent Action 1. A restored book generally 'should' sell for roughly what it would have been worth pre resto, give or take for a little bidding frenzy, adding a little for eye appeal, possibly a little to compensate for the work done, etc. That's why all restored books are not the same.
  14. Depends what's wrong with it. If simply incomplete with s decent looking cover? $12-15k? Clink sold a nice looking Qualified 4.0 copy that was otherwise unrestored with a missing centerfold for $25K nearly two years ago. I believe it was sold by a boardie.
  15. Me, too. And just a good person to do business with. A lot of good sellers on these boards got tired of the drama here and the low ball offers. I still believe this place is a great place to sell to some really good people/boardies, but for many long-time boardies such as myself I have gradually seen the decline in serious clienteles here on the boards. It's the fear mongering. This place is such a concentration of online buyers and many buyers here are so GPA obsessed that they won't pay GPA for a book. So you throw the book out in the wild and it sells for real numbers. What people who don't want to pay for GPA forget is that they want their books to be worth more in the future but that only happens if they choose to pay a little more now. Storms nailed it with a term but I can't remember what he said.
  16. Me, too. And just a good person to do business with. And cute too (in my best Super Grover voice).
  17. i would contact them and confirm them before sending any money but that's just me I just bought the Amazing Fantasy 15! I mailed them cash, they told me that it is the safest method of payment! Can't wait to get this grail book at a 2013 price! I thought my website updates were slow.
  18. It's well known that books often sell for more off the boards than on the boards. I can't count how many times it's happened, but enough times to know that it's true. Unless you need statistics. Then I can't help you. Depends who's selling them, truth be told... Not really. It's well known that people pay more for books outside of the boards than on them. Has been that way for as long as I've been here.

  20. Same thing that happend to the lawsuits he threatened me with, nothing. He also wanted to beat me up so I posted a picture of myself, gave him my address and also posted when and where I would be at comic cons. Coward never showed. Classic.
  21. You can't just analyze just a couple of price points. You need to look at long term trends. There are always outliers and exceptions. I don't care where it settles. I'm just stating where we are now and where we've come from.
  22. So I have no skin in this game other than owning a few raw copies of NM #98 in the 9.4 range as the CA is not my target market. I actually didn't even know who Deadpool was when I got into comics a few years ago but apparently this book is still climbing in 9.8 I did an average of the last 11 sales since March 2nd and the 1 week average is $869.45 That's well above the 90 day average, which is above the 12 month average. So this book (in 9.8 at least) is continuing to climb even after the movie release, just as I had posited.
  23. Then there was deathlock... Then there was deathlok. I never had an issue with him but hoo boy, if he had it in for you.... ... He's my facebook "friend" Why aren't I your facebook friend?
