  1. I started at $2250 because there were a few $2500 sales at that point in time as the season opened and dropped the price to $1900 and I think I entertained a $1700 offer through the forums, or something like that. Ended up getting my $1900 ask without fees elsewhere. I meant the selling forums. If it's a fairly common book it's usually just boardies trolling for a cheap flip. Tougher, more desirable books will fetch strong money but they are not the norm.
  2. The book never averaged $2500 from what I can see. There were a few high sales that propped up the average (one was a $3750 sale that is an anomaly but a real sale) but the book has consistently been an $1800-2000 book for nearly 2 years now. then why does it not sell on on here at $1,600 and lower... Multiple copies have been for sale on the boards below the $1,800 price point that have moved on to "the bay." Because these boards have never been an accurate indicator of how to price a book. If you've been here for more than a few months and observed sales you'll notice that many books fetch more on the open market than they do in a closed marketplace. There are many books that don't sell here that fetch more out in the real world. I offered my WD #1 here a few months ago and it wouldn't get a sniff and then I got over $1900 for it elsewhere.
  3. The book never averaged $2500 from what I can see. There were a few high sales that propped up the average (one was a $3750 sale that is an anomaly but a real sale) but the book has consistently been an $1800-2000 book for nearly 2 years now.
  4. There's another angle on this that I found fascinating...sometimes first impressions are the truest because of later rationalizations and the ability of the mind to use its full capacity, much of it unexplainable with logic. This leads to a gut reaction that is often correct, even though there seemingly wasn't enough information to process a result. There's a great book on this by Malcolm Gladwell called Blink. Brilliant. Although I thought people always put much more effort into 1st impressions than any other and I assume them to be more faked than genuine later impressions.
  5. I think Casey was specifically talking about a 1st impression but I personally pay closer attention to the later impressions to see if the 1st impression is consistent or an act. Casey is right, you can't make a 1st impression more than once but I prefer a real impression. Oh, and boobies.
  6. I love Chicken, and Beef. [/quote Steak! Doesn't sum up humanity at all. Some people love drama. And it follows them everywhere they go. I'm a vegetarian I used to be. Came to the conclusion that it wasn't the right thing for me. As soon as I started eating a little bit of animal product my complexion changed for the better to the point that my coworkers noticed without me saying anything. Now I just eat what's convenient when it's convenient.
  7. I wanted to add that Rupp has been PMing with me to explain to me that the memes about me were not aimed at me and it makes sense to me that they were just jokes to be used in related threads. I've been the convenient butt of people's jokes since I joined and I'm OK with that. I explained that I didn't understand or really like that type of humour but I also personally understand South Park humour and I realize it isn't everyone's flavour, mine especially although I'm just as guilty as anyone of saying offensive things at the wrong time. I don't think he's a nutter personally but then I'm not an expert. I do think that people who want to get along can always find a way but then I am known as the resident hippie optimist. I'm happy to support whatever the community wants though. I'll leave it up to the rest of you guys who are involved with the memes how you want to handle (or feel about) the other memes. But really I just typed this out to use as many Canadian spellings as I could to irk Pat.
  8. I'm quoting this post again because it's so damned good, and reading it I've come to remember that peace of any sort takes sacrifice on all sides. Nobody is truly altruistic so we're always going to cross someone at some point even if it's unintentional. Just like during the Cold War, someone needs to make the first move to make any relationship better.
  9. Probably a combination of reasons. Relative keys have been rising for years while SC #4 plateaued for a bit so it's just catching up. Also media activity.
  10. Having been on these boards for nearly 10 years and being involved enough board drama to last me the rest of eternity I can say that nothing makes me want to wretch more in regards to internet dealings than the clique mentality. I don't think this discussion is about cliques. Not to make this about me, but I felt personally betrayed when I saw the memes that Rupp had made about me. I'd never done anything against the guy and I think I even defended him at one point in CG a few years ago. No good deed goes unpunished it seems. In fairness he did apologize to me via PM although he didn't admit that he created the memes. He just apologized for my feelings. As far as the other memes go, I genuinely don't remember who showed them to me but I found them disturbing in a way that I find crude horror disturbing. While I don't have a problem dealing with real life horror (because that is reality) finding entertainment in crude horror is something I have a personal problem with because it takes effort to create it. I don't have the stomach to think up horrific things about real people but more importantly I believe it hardens the heart and prevents a person from understanding and more importantly actually feeling empathy for others. Well, it does for me personally anyways. We all have our dark corners and cobwebs but this site has always been about functioning as a community of good people. Rupp may not rip anyone off in a comic deal but creating stuff like this has consequences. That's the cost. Coming clean honestly is really the only solution to this drama.
  11. Forums are what their members choose to make them. We still have a choice in the ultimate direction of this place. There are dozens, hundreds, or more mature adults on this forum with the capability and desire to treat others with the respect they would demand for themselves. All it takes is for them to speak, be heard, and not relent. Well, at least you hear me, and Lizards2 can smell me. Now I just need someone to see me and another to touch....wait a min Who?
  12. This is a book you just never, ever see over Fine. Your book is in about the same shape as mine. One of my favourites!
  13. Yeah, I'm sad to hear about this too. There were a few making fun of my sexuality as well as one about Logan's wife. I really have to question when someone uses this type of humor.
  14. If anyone wants to make me an offer on the Mister Mystery #1, feel free to drop me a PM. I've also relisted some freshly graded Pre Code books including some horror and a very nice Matt Baker Authentic Police Cases.
  15. I think you should start a thread discussing this.
  16. Probably has something to do with the fact that it is OK under Overstreet standards up to the Fine range.
  17. Everyone is allowed a random, mildly OT post once in a while!
  18. Most people don't realize that BO is a product of the animal products we eat eminating through the skin and as a race, I personally believe we eat way too much of it. It's so damn tasty though. I'm currently ripping into a chicken shawarma (cheers to Tupenny).
  19. Most important point in the entire thread in terms of relative grading. If CGC can't get the CGC grade correct then certainly nobody else can.
