  1. Depends on whether it was a recent buy that has been flipped or a long term holder of the book. Recent sales: $50,750 Nov 10 Curator 9.6 W $37,344 Nov 10 9.6 OWW $32,999 May 11 9.6 OWW $31,501 Aug 11 Twin City 9.6 OWW pressed from 9.4 If its the 2nd or 3rd listed above then $28,575 (the amount of the current sale after CL commission) isn't so good. That price seems to be a bit on the low side but generally in-line with recent non-Curator sales. Maybe the Curator sale skewed the perspective a bit (it did for me too, I was expecting a higher result for the Clink book) but if you look at the '11 sales last night's book falls right in-line. What killed the book in Nov 2010 was 3 copies all being auctioned off the same week. Brulato's Curator fetched $50,000 (he upgraded to a 9.8). Then I believe Clink or Pedigree (can't remember which but it was the other site that did not have the Curator for sale) sold a copy for around $35-40,000 and finally the $37,000 copy went on Heritage but it was a brown, not so pretty copy that wouldn't have fetched strong money even if it was the only 9.6 being auctioned off that week. That combination of too many books all ending in one week and the last one being an ugly copy really hurt the DD #1 as far as perception is concerned.
  2. Brian, your JLA 1 is a stunning copy. Congrats. While I am not a player for books in this price range I would like to comment on pricing in general. I prefer to see a relatively firm price rather than a negotiable starting point. I see so many books on Clink with ridiculous asking prices that I hardly look anymore. I agree with you that it is difficult to price books like this. bob, the problem with a realistic "firm" price is that the majority of people still haggle and try to scrape some off the price. I can't tell you how many times I've given somebody a realistic price and they still want a bigger discount. It's unfortunate for the minority who don't like to haggle but that is the reality of it.
  3. JP got in too fast and left too quickly. I heard he wanted to sell off quick because of another huge purchase he was trying to make. Too bad he didn't hang around.
  4. I don't understand why you can't just let Brian price his book where he feels comfortable and let the market decide. There's nothing ridiculous about Brian except that he gets ridiculously nice books. JLA #1 and B+B #28 have exploded (in some cases DOUBLED) in price over the past 1.5 years and you can't just go by GPA sales to tell the whole story. (thumbs u
  5. He can ask what he wants and can always come down in price if he wants to. JLA #1 is a pretty popular book. Whenever I have one it gets a lot of interest.
  6. Or he should be forced to keep it now that it's posted in a collecting thread.
  7. wonderful 83 west; love the colors on that copy! i have this one, but look how washed out the colors look--like a wholly different shade of green. Sold this but really would have loved to have been able to keep it.
  8. I thought they initially said the Sparkle City books were not pressed. Edit, never mind. I saw that they said some were considered for pressing.
  9. Having held some San Fran books in hand in the raw, I can attest to the fact that they are scary nice in person. White and impeccable.
  10. you are so old-school <3 Actually, wasn't there all sorts of drama regarding star ratings back in the day? Yeah Didn't people argue over the ratings their threads got or something like that? Kind of like a popularity contest at the prom...only every day? I missed out on all that. Very early on, you could rate PEOPLE ! Everybody started with 5 stars, after about 20 minutes on the boards, most were down to four. Man, if they had star-ratings per user today, I'm sure the carnage would take out the entire inter-web. After the personal stars, the THREAD-stars were left, these lasted a little longer...just a little. God all of a sudden, I feel old...almost 10 years of my life on here (thumbs u Nice little edit.
  11. I paid absolutely ZERO attention to it. I don't even think I knew what it was at the time. My first few years here I did relatively little posting, believe it or not. Almost 50K, you have certainly made up for it.. Well, we got these computers at work around 2007 or so....

  14. Yes, it's a pity the columns aren't in paper format. You're so last century. I was merely stating how thoroughly absorbent such columns would be. For toilet paper you mean? Yes, but when moistened would they expand and contract horizontally or vertically?
  15. That's a completely different ball game. Interesting choice of words.
  16. Who in their right mind would pay more than $0.10 for a comic?
  17. Stu was against CGC slabbing in the beginning. You are pro CGC. Stu comes on here and posts all the time now, and although I don't follow his posts around to "know" him very well, I do know that he's fairly knowledgeable about comics. I don't see him bashing anyone because of CGC any more. Whether he's actually changed his belief or just plays more politically correct on here now, only he knows for sure. You're acting like he stabbed a member of your family. I do believe that you tend to take things too literally and sometimes miss the finer points while making a big point out of non issues. For example, Shad made a comical swipe at you with that stripper post and you felt the need to reply to it directly by denying that you'd ever step foot in a strip joint. you DID tell me to go play in traffic, now deny it. I wished I had bookmarked that thread, but did not. I am no one's fool. Don't ever forget that. I have my reasons for my zany banter here, and you can be a good part of this, or continue with your nonsense. I would NEVER step in a strip club anyway. never needed to, never will. CAL with certain standards To me, it seems you missed the point of the post. The point was not the strip joint, it was that you would take every opportunity to talk something about yourself and he called it attention whoring. And you did exactly that. See how that post was misconstrued? Now multiply that by 10 years of internet chatter. If the banter is zaney, it's because most people have no clue about what is going on...just little slivers of information making it look zaney from the outside. Not making judgements, just saying to an outsider this looks nuts.
  18. There could be wisdom in this here post. Roy, who wished he started the whole talking in the 3rd person thing. Which was taken from the Seinfeld episode "The Jimmy" Explains it. I never watched Seinfeld in it's heyday. I was unplugged for most of the 90's.
  19. There could be wisdom in this here post. Roy, who wished he started the whole talking in the 3rd person thing. Roy, Stu did not harrass Nick the way he did me, and many ,including Nick, knows this. There is a TON of less-than-forthrightness here in this Thread, but trust me, this is a big battle and the stakes are high for some of us. For me to concede is to let Stu and his anti-CGCers carry the day. CAL makes his stand Just to touch on this, because I missed the battle part the first time around (thanks, Pont for quoting it) ...does anyone know what stakes are except for you and Stu? Unless the stakes are laid out to the public, which I don't think they are, it makes it look trivial to outsiders, which is why they might be deriding you. How big can the battle actually be? You have a well galvanized reputation as a seller so I'm not sure what else the battle could be about for you to get your back up. It's not just a matter of one person being proved wrong over principle, is it?
