  2. Sure proud of mine...waited a lifetime for this puppy. HOLY COW!
  3. I should have my editor proof read my mess LOUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. This is true. For some reason triplets didn't seem right, though. Thirds. (thumbs u
  5. That book was a freak of nature!!!!!!11 Should have been a 9.9!@!!1!!
  6. Is purely made up by you. Therefore any rounding after this preposition is, like your wardrobe, pure fancy (thumbs u Really? I thought it was pretty logical to divide a perfect 10 into 3 equal quadrants to quantify the difference between Low/Mid/High. What about the books between 3.3 and 3.4 Also 6.6 and 6.7? I don't know, I'll have to start a thread about it!

  8. How about this? 0 - 3.3 = low grade 3.4 - 6.6 = mid grade 6.7 - 10.0 = high grade Rounding up gives you: 0 - 3.5 = low grade 4.0 - 7.0 = mid grade 7.5 - 10.0 = high grade Rounding down to a number divisible by two gives you: 0 - 2 = low grade 2 - 6 = mid grade 6 - 10 = high grade (since we are all just making stuff up as we go ) I wasn't making stuff up as I went along. I was using the math that I learned in grade school (rounding up) and then using the nearest CGC grades, without overlapping them. You on the other hand....
  9. Your latent Ninja powers still need their morning coffee?
  10. You and I are pretty close. I've always considered VG to be mid grade and Fine range to be the end of the mid grade. VF range is where high grade starts for me. I suppose we could flame war over a 0.5
  11. How about this? 0 - 3.3 = low grade 3.4 - 6.6 = mid grade 6.7 - 10.0 = high grade Rounding up gives you: 0 - 3.5 = low grade 4.0 - 7.0 = mid grade 7.5 - 10.0 = high grade Sounds pretty accurate to me.
  12. That's like saying a 7.5 is a 7.5 and can never be a 9.4. Which is wrong. Are you getting philosophical on me? That's like saying something can be everything and nothing. No, it's a random pebble throwing from the sidelines by a rabble-rouser. Gav is referencing a book I put up for sale on the forums that was pressed from a 7.5 to a 9.4 and showing his disdain for my doing so and not revealing the previous grade of the book when it was put up for sale. It doesn't matter that the book was not actually mine and was not pressed by me. All that matters is that it bothers him and his perception of the situation is enough for him to open that can of worms again. Facts are not important. His comment actually has nothing to do with this conversation except that I am in the conversation and he is in the conversation. Oh, it also shows that a 7.5 book can and does have high grade qualities, hence I believe VF range is the start of high grade. Carry on. My post was to prove that while a vase without a handle will always be a vase without a handle, a 7.5 may not always be a 7.5. The book you had was the case in point. What the post was not about was you. Did I mention anything about you not disclosing? No, you did. Did I mention I didn't like the way you tried to sell the book? No, you did. Did I mention you at all? No. My point was that the vase comment was a bad analogy, stop trying to twist my words. I made my feelings clear in the thread that was pulled and I haven't acknowledged you since, so stop accusing me of rabble-rousing Roy when my comment was directly related to this thread and the post I quoted. Specifically, how grades can change. Not everything is about you, especially my posts. I think you are a brilliant guy, which is why I didn't understand what the 7.5-9.4 reference had to do with anything in this thread. I'll disagree with you and your motivations but since I'm not a mind reader I can't prove anything. I can only take all of the information I have at hand and draw a conclusion as to what your motivations are for bringing up something irrelevant to the discussion. I think your 7.5 to a 9.4 analogy is a poor one to use in this discussion. The discussion was never focused around whether a 7.5 can become a 9.4 (which you are trying to make it about). The discussion is focused on the fact that a book with low grade characteristics can not be considered a high grade book. In fact your analogy only goes on to prove my point that a 7.5 book (which happens to be VF range and I have always believed that VF range is high grade) has high grade characteristics that differ very little from a higher grade copy and therefore can be considered high grade. Therefore the vase analogy is a perfect one, a vase with a defect that kills the grade can not be considered high grade in the truest sense of the word. (I am in agreement with mikeynyc88) The discussion is about high grade, not highest grade (or any other variation of the word high).
  13. I was wondering where that book went. Didn't realize he listed it at auction. Heck, at that price I'd have bid. I know. I was counting on getting interest from buyers who wanted a better copy that the 4.5 on Clink, but could not quite afford the 9.0. Oh well, I should have passed on the bargain to one of you guys. I realize now that I was really being greedy. I was hoping I could have paid for Pierce's delivery, but of course that is not happening. Hopefully, you can forgive me and hopefully I will learn from this The plight of being a selfish human Naw, it was just bad luck. I was at a show all weekend otherwise I likely would have seen it and bid. (thumbs u

  15. I still maintain that you should have your own forum. I'd ditch this place for that.
  16. You will find out that a lot of comic collectors will describe HG as a very cut/dry definition. Meaning HG would start at VF no matter the age or how abundant the book is. VF is HG no matter if the book is a Spawn #1 or an Action Comics #1. So if you present someone with Spawn #1 in 8.5 condition the book is considered HG by the commonly accepted comics principles of the OSPG. You know the OSPG that from 1975-present is very much dead on which their market valuations. I call that the old school model. I am of the opinion of new school thinking of what HG is partly because of CGC and population in the census of the books. Most boardies rebuttal at me: No John it is not old school thinking. You are just massively incorrect in your thinking. ASM 300 in 8.5/9.0 is HG because it doesn't matter if the book is common or not in HG. A VF is a VF so yes the book is HG. There is no new school thought process as much as you are misguided in your thought process. The definition of HG is cut/dry. John you are just a dope as per usual. John, it's not a matter of what you think or say, it's a matter of what the English language says. What is the grade? The grade is somewhere on a scale of 1-10. What is considered high grade on a scale of 1-10...most people believe 8.0 is roughly where high grade starts. Why does high grade start at 8.0 for most people? Because a book that is called "high grade" needs to look like a high grade book and exhibit high grade qualities as it sits there on my desk in a Mylar. If you want to call a book "high grade" when it is only a 5.5, but it is the highest graded copy then the English language doesn't cover that by calling it high grade (as high grade is a quality regardless of how rare the book is). The English language does cover it if you qualify the "high grade" description by saying "for that particular issue". See the difference? Most people will not undersand "high grade for that particular issue" out of the phrase "high grade" because the rules of the English language don't support the longer meaning of "high grade for that book" in only those two words.

  18. Get ready for a bunch of boardies in the morning posting you many links to this huge debate about this that has been going on in many threads over the past year. but don't let them fool you an ASM 300 in VF/NM is not HG. So a book is only considered high grade if it is rare in high grade? Or a book is high grade because a book exhibits high grade qualities? John is right, it was discussed here in detail. As far as I am concerned, whether it is a mickey mouse golden age book or a modern from last week, if the book exhibits high grade characteristics, and structurally grades VF or up, it's considered a high grade book by me. Rarity has nothing to do with the grade, the way the book is graded or whether it is high grade or not. If a book is rare in high grade, it may be considered "high grade for that copy" (qualified) but not necessarily high grade. Pretty simple in my books.
