  1. I was thinking the exact same thing... Dude, there's gotta be someone that's put it on you tube by now! I remember a few months ago seeing a waterspout/twister in singapore on youtube about 3 or 4 hours after it happened!
  2. I'm not versed on this subject, but I can imagine that a TURD colored forum scheme is not going to put anyone in a good mood. Certain colours are better than others. From what i remember, pinks are soothing, but only for short periods. Blues are aggresive. Reds are stimulating while yellows and oranges are "digestive" colours. Greens are healing. I think the reason the old yellow board was so appealing was because it was "light", bright and uplifting. It was a "feel good" colour. Arch did mention in his "list to do" that optional colours will be an upgrade. I miss the old site though....anyone have a snap shot so I can revisit?
  3. BTW...to r1970d and Jeffro...your two purchases still stand (it relieves a small amount of pressure on old guy) and a special to the pair of you Dude, I just wanna say i love in in a "rugby and broken bones, smack you in the back or your head while your girlfriend is checking me out" kind of way.
  4. That's a sweet book Angelo! Didn't I sell you a #61 a while back?
  5. Can you solve the Middle East crisis next? Actually yes. I'll post my solution in the WC when i get some time.
  6. Don't know what the problem is. Don't know there is a watercooler? Now you know. Don't know anyone there? Start posting there and you will. You didn't know anyone here either until you started posting. Want opinions from other comic collectors? If all off topic posts are put there, they will follow and post in your thread. Real simple to me.
  7. for accomodating my unusual shipping request Asking to have your books shipped in boxes from men's underwear?
  8. Kudos to greggy because he forced me to. Ok the books were sweet too.
  9. . Mike, you should check out the GA forum. They've got an pre #30 Action thread, and then the same guy goes and starts a "Post your Action #" thread. Makes my old NM range SA X men run look like a rubber duck. R.
  10. Definately under appreciated. People were not prepared for PURE Frank Miller. Up until then, peoplw were used to seeing Jansen's or Rubenstein's version of Miller. Ronin was a MASSIVE awakening as to what Miller was capable of, and people were shocked. Had DKR come out before Ronin it may not have been recieved as well. Personally, I loved Ronin and still do. Loved the Japanese theme, the art, layouts, story. Everything. And i also consider DKR oneof the finest pieces of comic literature ever created. R.
  11. One of my favourite Marvel covers of all time! Menacing Sentinel, trapped Xavier, the X men rushing in...will they make it in time? And red. Lots of red....
  12. Does it have anything to do with flogging? anybody got pics?
  13. Black cover, semi key book. I'd say a 9.6 might fetch in the neighbour hood of double that as a 9.8 sold for over $5000 if i remember correctly. R.
  14. I sold a 9.4 white of that book for $1250 or $1300 in 2004 so that is not far off.
  15. As I said earlier, there is almost an obsessive need by board members to pay less than GPA for a book, no matter how desirable it is or how badly they want it. It's like some kind of comic collector macho thing. I'd like to input a bit here. Bob has actually paid me above GPA for books. That is a dealer paying over GPA prices. I'd like to think Bob has an idea of what the market will bear. Oh and I personally use GPA and love it. R.
  16. I personally think that the lack of images of the book adds to the mystique. We've already had several people (who are more or less trustworthy) come on here to vouch for it being unrestored. Kinda cool if you ask me. I could imagine the first thing someone would say on these boards if they saw it. Dr. Blake or someone would come on here and say something like: "I don't know, the book looks pressed to me. It has that squished look" R.
  17. That book is now owned by the same forumite who I outbid as I own a stunning raw copy. He may want to remain anonymous. I was actually willing to go much higher (make that MUCH higher), but Brian felt it was unnecessary.
  18. GPA shows prices realized for sales that they have recorded. Currently, no ComicLink sales are reported to GPA and GPA also lacks retail sales from many other sources. Therefore, their numbers are incomplete, and collectors preaching them as gospel is inaccurate and misleading. One high profile example of is the sale of Hulk #1 CGC 9.0 with white pages which sold in a recent Mastro auction for $33,378 and was reported to GPA. In March 2005, a Hulk #1 in 9.0 with off-white to white pages (I think it is the same book before the page quality upgrade) was sold by a consignor on ComicLink for $50,000. So, what is it worth? Taking the GPA number only, a collector would conclude that it is only worth $33K. Taking the ComicLink number only, a collector would conclude that it is worth $50K. Knowing what it sold for in both places, a reasonable conclusion is that what it is worth depends on who is looking for the book at the time, the client base of the selling venue, the scarcity of the book, and what the buyer (and underbidder) is willing to spend to obtain it. If you are a seller, what the book is worth will also have to take into account, keeping in mind the above factors as well, the total commissions (buyer + seller) of the selling venue. What the seller nets = what the buyer ultimately pays for the item minus the sum of the buyer and seller commissions retained by the selling venue. There are countless examples of items selling on ComicLink for higher than the GPA numbers or even higher than the book recently sold for in another venue. Of course, there are also examples where a seller is willing to accept less than GPA numbers for a quick sale (or doesn't know that a book can sell for more than their list price) and the astute buyer can obtain a relative "bargain." Alternatively, an uninformed or greedy seller on ComicLink or anywhere else may overprice a book that is not scarce and it is therefore a pitfall for any buyer that is going to resell in the short-term. Josh Nathanson www.comiclink.com Josh is correct here. I sold my DD #7 9.0 on comiclink last year for about $1750 (it sold in 2 days!!) when GP was much less than that. R.
  19. example! Paid OVER $1500 for a JIM #89 in 8.5. Foolkiller picked it up for me from Harry last year at the Javitts when last GP was about $600+ Sorry. make that 2.5 times GPA. OK, close enough to 3 times GPA. R. and you want one in 9.0 or better
  20. example! Paid OVER $1500 for a JIM #89 in 8.5. Foolkiller picked it up for me from Harry last year at the Javitts when last GP was about $600+ Sorry. make that 2.5 times GPA. OK, close enough to 3 times GPA. R.
  21. Kenny, I'm only going to comment one last time on this subject. I don't worship the guy. In fact I have never been a DC guy and am not that excited about seeing the action #1 though i fully fathom what it represents. I do however know that first impressions make lasting impressions. Remember how we ran Don Rosa out of Dodge a few months ago? What i was trying to show (and i guess didn't) is how forumites look to invite people like Rosa and Anderson, who have experienced things that many of us dream about (Owning Super-grails in hi(ghest) grade, creating the books we read as kids, etc) and then they show up and theare not really respected. Blue on the other hand (Krazy Kat) had a reasonably intelligent discussion about black heros and every one knew he was a shill. Maybe i just got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe i need to get some (more..you know...) Maybe this discussion can get back on track. It was just my opinion based on my perception. And everyone's perception is different. I am all for leaving the bad. Discuss.. Have fun gang. Gotta work. R.
  22. With respects to everyone, I have to agree. Over on the WTB forum, one guy is looking for high grade Superman's from 1-300. Check out some of the negative responses there? What is so hard about being civil to people? Oh wait, this is the internet. Silly me. That's what I'm talking about. You don't unleash your inside jokes, innuendo, dirty jokes on someone new. Imagine acting like that at a department store or library or whatever with someone you have met for the first time. Now, greggy on the other hand, he deserves a good kick in the floppy saggies once in a while. But that's just my opinion.
