  1. I started collecting in the early 70s. My dad died 20 years ago. In those 30 years, my dad never once encouraged my collecting. To be honest, being the person he was, I would've never expected it from him. To his credit, however, he never once discouraged it. I know he must've bit his tongue plenty of times. I think he realized how much enjoyment I got out of it, and also that if he told me to stop, I would have instantly. He never did. Happy Father's Day.
  2. I was browsing CL a couple of auctions ago and was struck with a sudden bout of Impulsebuyitis.
  3. To quote my good friend Aaron Rodgers, "R-E-L-A-X" It happens quite frequently. It'll be back up before you can say "Packers suck!"
  4. I don't remember why I was wondering this, but is there a way to know how long a BIN has been listed?
  5. Personally, I would rather have nonslabbed books for my PC. I just think they look TONS better in Mylar. That said, The phrase "It's not worth it to get them slabbed" bothers me sometimes. Especially when it's not known how much has been spent on the comic itself. When I'm trying to decide if I should get a comic slabbed, I go by the formula ... A + B < C. (A = the cost of the comic , B = the cost of grading/pressing (if applicable) /shipping , C = FMV) So if A+B is less than C, it gets graded. If it's not, it doesn't. Simple. And I've never been one to say, "What about my time?"
  6. My brother is going thru some Chemo, and as what typically happens, he lost his hair. So his daughter, CR Warner (Cassidy), drew him as Professor X. Cassidy is a very talented artist who booths yearly at our local Comic Con here in G.R. Check her out ... crwarner
  7. Admit it. Everyone does thrill buying now and then. Here's a few of mine back from CGC...
  8. There is absolutely nothing special about this issue, EXCEPT, when I was a freshman in high school (1977), this was the last issue I needed to complete my 1-current DD run. The owner of the LCS knew it too, and he hauled it out from under the counter one day. Ah, those glorious '70s ... Daredevil and Charlie's Angels.
  9. That's exactly what I do. Anything over a certain dollar amount goes to an auction house.
  10. I think this is another reason to stop using Ebay and go with one of the auction sites. Let them deal with the Jackwagons out there.
  11. That's really messed up. My paranoia meter just went up a few more numbers.
  12. So, let me get this straight. All a person has to do is tell PP that they didn't receive the item? Even if tracking says otherwise? And what, exactly, is to prevent someone from doing this with a multi-thousand dollar item?
  13. This is going to sound a little weird (and maybe kinda gross), but, for some reason, I associate DD 18 with the smell of old comics. There used to be an old bookstore in the city (not comics, but used paperbacks and hardcovers) that had old comics in one corner. They also had an old ratty couch you could sit in and read .Over the years, I spent hours in that couch. Even though I don't specifically remember reading DD 18 there (no, I don't have Alzheimer's), I bet that's where I the association comes from.
  14. I'm not an expert on these matters but I'm pretty sure this is how it works... CGC grading fees: I don't think the seller is under any obligation to reimburse these fees. Sorry. You can ask, but that's about all you can do. Return shipping: If the seller specifically stated (either in his listing or in a message) that the book was unrestored, then he is obligated to pay the return shipping. If he never specifically stated that the book was unrestored, then you pay. If it was me and he paid for return shipping, I'd ask him if he wanted me to crack it out. If I had to pay for return shipping, I wouldn't even ask, I'd crack it out. (unless he paid for the grading fees)
  15. Send it back. No partial refunds ... all or nothing.
  16. I wish I could choose FedEx/UPS, but I don't dare with their insurance capped. I have to use USPS.
  17. I still play Halo Custom Edition ... I'm the GOAT at Blood Gulch.
  18. Man, it must be nice to receive your books a couple of days after CGC ships them. It takes a couple of weeks for me.
  19. Value (4 books - slow boat) received - 5/12 F/I/S - 5/28
