Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
GeeksAreMyPeeps replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
I think that all depends on what you think defines the Copper Age. I think I had a pretty good argument for extending it into the late '90s. -

No. There was a backup story in some issue of Omega Men; 37, maybe? But he appeared a bunch of times between that and Lobo #1. Probably what put him on the map was Justice League International 18 & 19 (the first appearance after Omega Men), which are still probably far cheaper than they should be, and then a bunch of issues of L.E.G.I.O.N. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=justice+league+international+18&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=11102&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50&LH_Complete=1&_fosrp=1 -

Apparently some bidders decided that Lobo 1 is worth close to $250: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174748947177?hash=item28afd952e9%3Ag%3Am~MAAOSwea5giKoK&nma=true&si=gPkbdlZaaun02YVuZ%2FCtfa93Yyg%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 -

I think Liefeld had a laundry list of "characters" that he wanted to published, so he put out first issues of a number of different books (Youngblood, Bloodstrike, Brigade, etc.) that mostly didn't go anywhere. I put characters in quotes because it was short on character. His idea of a character was a power and a name and what he thought was a cool costume, but nothing much in terms of personalities. I have to share this, because it's funny AF. While I was brushing up on some of the history of late-90s Image, I was looking into the accusations that Liefeld was poaching some of Top Cow's talent. I googled "Liefeld poaches talent…" and, no joke, Google asked "Did you mean Liefeld pouches?" -

I like to look at one of the overarching themes of the Copper Age being creator's rights. I think Archie Goodwin landing at Marvel and the launch of Epic as a good kickoff point. I think what the Image founders learned in the first few years was that it's very hard to run a consistent *shared universe* if all of the creators contributing to a shared space have complete control over what they're contributing. There is a sort of transition with Image (around what I like to point to as the end of the Copper Age), where Liefeld is booted out, Silvestri's studio sort of emerged as the big dog of the bunch, and Valentino started creating a space for a lot more indy-type comics that more resembles today's Image. -

Nobody was looking at his stuff because he didn't know what a publishing schedule was. -

I'd say sometime around 2011/2012, with the New 52, Marvel Now, and when previously defunct comic universes (Valiant, Dark Horse's various Comics Greatest World properties) started being published again. That leaves (if we go with my previous suggestion of 1997 or so for Heroes Reborn as the end of Copper) about 14-15 years for that interim age, which seems like a good time period for an age -

That's at least a milestone issue and has a memorable cover, even if it doesn't feature Venom. -

Copper should cover at least up to Heroes Reborn at Marvel, and the implosion of all of the various independent superhero universes that started in the '90s (Valiant, Continuity, Ultraverse, Milestone, Comics Greatest World, etc.) -
Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I'm guessing they're changing things up to align with however they're deciding to handle her in the MCU? -
Eniac, how do we feel about this methodology?
GeeksAreMyPeeps replied to Lurker89's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
For those enjoying Eniac, Kindt and Braithwaite also collaborated on the first arc of the Unity series at Valiant. Kindt wrote that entire series (and the Ninjak series, and the X-O Manowar 2017 series, so they probably both worked together on other arcs as well, but I'm too lazy to look up exactly which now) -

It's a $10 cover price book, so not a huge jump percentagewise. -
First appearance of Naomi?
GeeksAreMyPeeps replied to William-James88's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I'm happy to sell books to people that want to buy them, but trying to convince people that an ad or preview is a desirable thing to own is a different story. -
First appearance of Naomi?
GeeksAreMyPeeps replied to William-James88's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
The problem here is that you're using the same criteria for "appearance" as those who argue that ads or previews are "appearances"; i.e. you're conflating "depiction" with "appearance." A full body shot is a full *depiction*, but in comic collecting terminology, an "appearance" relates to a character's inclusion in a story. Wolverine's appearance on the last page of Hulk 180 is a teaser for the next issue. Is it an appearance? Yes. Is it a *full appearance*? I would say no, since he was not an important part of the story in that issue. Your *opinion* may differ. -

It is most definitely a matter of opinion as to what constitutes a "full" appearance. There have been plenty of debates about this. -

"Full" is a matter of opinion. But they are appearances. -

No amount of sales changes the facts. People are free to spend their money on ads if they want. It doesn't change that they're ads. -

CGC is a grading company. I'll trust their opinions on the condition of a comic, because that's their professional focus. They're not the gatekeepers when it comes to ruling on the content in the book. Yes, they indicate that ASM 365 is the first appearance of Spider-man 2099. But there are similar previews in other books that they don't treat the same way. They're inconsistent. Traditionally, the hobby has accepted that "appearance" means when a character is in a story. A preview is an advertisement that contains the excerpt from a story intended to sell the book that the story is published in. -

The market doesn't dictate whether a preview is an appearance. It only dictates the cost of something. -

They should just make an Icon movie.
