  1. A Cat For Bill by Frank Ferry Imperial #741 $40 SOLD to mstrange An incredible vintage sleaze pb. The uncredited cover art is one of the coolest paintings I've seen on one of these. The girl, the coloring, just top notch vintage sleaze pb art. Very Fine. Unread gorgeous glossy copy. Pages are creamy and supple. Virtually no wear to be found. Distributor spray on top page edge. This is likely the finest copy on the planet, I couldn't imagine a better one.
  2. Commit the Sins by William A. Austin Newsstand Library U165 $40 SOLD to goldust40 Jazz/JD/Lesbian sleaze with incredible Robert Bonfils headlights cover art with a great composition. Bonfils collectors are everywhere and it's a condition rarity as well. I don't collect a lot of sleaze except if it has elements of: JD, Jazz, Blues, Lesbians, famous authors under pseudonym or striking cover art/artists. I guess I do collect a fair amount of sleaze Very Fine - Spectacular copy. Super glossy and new looking - virtually no wear. Pages are off white and supple. For the picky collector who wants the very best.
  3. Ace S-95 The Naked Jungle by Harry Whittington $35 SOLD to goldust40 A scarce Ace single by top PB writer Whittington with gorgeous uncredited GGA cover art. Looks like James Meese to me and a few of my friends who study this stuff but remains uncredited. Fine. Glossy Solid spine, has slight slant and wear to the spine edges. Pages tight in binding, slightly tanning but supple. Name in pencil on first page. No front cover creasing and light crease on rear cover. Overall an attractive copy of a tough Whittington classic vintage paperback
  4. Hard Boiled by Harmon Bellamy Venus Books 110 $90 SOLD to mstrange Classic GGA Lingerie Vintage Sleaze Digest. One of the most famous Venus Digests with cover art uncredited but likely by Howell Dodd. Fine/Fine Plus. Solid spine, staples tight, pages supple. Light spine wear and creasing. Light soiling to back cover. An attractive copy of one of the most sought after GGA digest covers.
  5. No publisher theme tonight. I have a stack of varied but incredibly cool pieces to set out, starting with this, which I managed to upgrade again: The Whipping by Roy Flannagan Bantam Books #817 $65 SOLD to mstrange Probably Harry Schaare's most notorious and desirable cover. GGA/Hooded figures cover art. Along with "Campus Town", they're the future Suspense #3's of paperbacks imho. Fine Plus. Spine is solid with slight slant, light wear. Pages tight, light and supple. Covers are super bright and glossy. A tiny tear/dent at top which goes in a few pages. One of the best copies I've seen. A striking copy of a sick book.
  6. I'm going to try to list a few tonight, depending on if I get called away I plan to run this sale through the weekend and close it out Sunday night so it doesn't get too unwieldy. I know I have to do a recap and may try to slip that in tonight if I'm allowed to sit in the comic room and binge the new Season of Jack Ryan while I'm sitting here
  7. A pretty fair guess I'd say. Some internet folks guess Earl Bergey, which I could see as well.
  8. Last book for tonight but another doozy. I have a pretty fair stack of books left to list over this weekend but it's getting late here in the east and I got meetings in the morning The Shadow, The Crime Cult #6 in the series by Maxwell Grant Pyramid N3699 March 1975 $45 SOLD to Ghostzapper Another insane Steranko Shadow cover in near perfect unread condition. Razor sharp, fresh, glossy and new. What else can you say. The 1975 and earlier books are tougher and tougher. You won't find better.
  9. The Shadow, Kings Of Crime #11 in the series by Maxwell Grant Pyramid N3967 February 1976 $40 SOLD to Ghostzapper Ace trumps Four Kings Steranko cover art Another new, near perfect copy you just can stare at for hours. They don't come around often like this.
  10. The Shadow, Green Eyes #13 in the series by Maxwell Grant Pyramid V4205 January 1977 $40 SOLD to Ghostzapper Gorgeous Jim Steranko cover art It's hard to describe this copy. Just look at it. One in a million. Off white interiors as well.
  11. The Shadow, The Wealth Seeker #21 in the series by Maxwell Grant Jove V4283 February 1978 $35 SOLD to Ghostzapper Killer Jim Steranko Garter Babe cover art VF/NM - a ridiculous copy. Looks like new with only minor storage/edge wear, Tiny bend to back left corner. Pages off white and supple with very light toning to the edges.
  12. That's about it for this Avon stack - I'm going to throw this quick bargain lot out there for anyone who wants 2 nice GGA covers that present well and get the Avon feel. Then I'll be back in a little bit with some art covers. Georgie May by Maxwell Bodenheim Avon 158 - One of the first very large Good Girls by Avon, has a fair crease on the front cover but very presentable overall Never Come Morning by Nelson Algren Avon 419 -Gorgeous headlights cover. The second numbering for this and the 5th print overall per inside census. It's nice because it has gloss lamination, unlike the earlier number. 950,000 copies sold at this time! That is insane and one of Avon's all time best sellers but they don't survive because they just got chucked. This one looks great but has a little chunk worn away at the bottom cover and inside pages. $15 for the pair
  13. The Ship Of Ishtar by Abraham Merritt Avon 324 1951 $70 SOLD to mstrange Extreme Bondage Torture Nude GGA cover. Amazing this was in the rack at Woolworths. Uncredited cover art but 99% sure it's by Bill Randall, look at that girls eyes and at "Werewolf of Paris". Top of the Bill, literally, for Golden Age Avons. Very Fine minus Incredibly glossy unread copy. No cover creases, near perfect lamination. Very minor edge/corner wear. Light surface wear to the lamination. Tiny owner name in pen on first page. Pages lightly toning. A killer copy of a classic bondage cover.
  14. The Werewolf Of Paris by Guy Endore Avon 354 1951 $75 SOLD to mstrange This book has disappeared from the market for the most part from what I can see. The incredible GGA Horror cover art is also by Bill Randall, although, ironically, it is another of the few that have the artist credit inside the cover and it calls him "William Randolph" One of many reasons why it's so hard to figure these artists out! Desirable for all the obvious reasons. Very Fine Minus. Yet another bright, glossy new looking book. Square and tight, great pages. This one has a bit of lamination lifting and a small tear to the lam, also some page edge staining to the dye. A proud book to own in this shape.
  15. House of Fury by Felice Swados Avon 298 1950 $50 Another one of the most famous classic Golden Age Avon covers reprinted everywhere. This one by Calendar Pin-up artist Bill Randall. A haunting image of the Delinquent Good Girl in the shadow of the bars. The title was originally published in paperback as "Reform School Girl" in Avon's famous Diversey Digest edition from 1948, which is pretty universally considered the top of the Vintage Paperback field for desirability and rarity. Very Fine Minus. Another bright, glossy new looking book. Square and tight, great pages. Has a tiny bit of lamination missing in the lower right corner and a very light stain on back cover. Hints of wear. A top line copy.
  16. Sorry, I didn't see this until I went back to review - it's Golden Age Avons on on the menu today as you can probably tell
  17. The Terror Of The Leopard Men by Juba Kennerley Avon 339 1951 $15 SOLD to mstrange Classic cover. Another "Fridge Magnet" type book. Cover artist is unknown but this book is collected by Sci Fi/Horror collectors as well as vintage pb collectors in general and reprinted all over the pace. Very Good - A decent presenting bargain copy that still displays well. Has some warping to the covers and lamination peel but still glossy and bright.
  18. The Blue Negro by Robert Payne Avon 373 1952 $20 SOLD to OtherEric A stunning copy. Beautiful coloring and atmosphere on this famous cover by Bob Hilbert. One of the few Avons where the artist was credited inside the cover. Very Fine Minus - I'd call this one VF/NM but has a light, old stain to the bottom edge. Bright, glossy and immaculate in every other way, including the lamination.
  19. The Palace Of Pleasure by Jacques-Rochette De La Morliere (say that three times fast!) Avon 206 1949 $15 SOLD to popkulture Another nice GGA cover credited to Ann Cantor Fine Plus/Very Fine minus. Beautiful copy for a 1949 book. Square solid spine, tight pages. Great colors, smooth covers with minimal wear and only a few finger bends.
  20. Memory of Love by Bessie Breuer Avon 196 1949 $15 SOLD to Norrin's Lawyer Sweet headlights GGA credited to Ann Cantor, but as I revealed in my article, she was an art agent subbing work out to artists like Johnson. It is gorgeous work, whoever painted it and is indicative of how Avon moved on from the stiff art of the earlier 1940's during this time. Fine/Fine Plus Solid spine with slight slant. Great colors, smooth covers with minimal wear and creasing. A very collectible copy.
